While there are larger in the class, the Highlander provides enough practicality in a size that's highly manageable. The L trim and the fact that toyota actually builds cheap highlanders, adds in a value factor that has become increasingly elusive. Let's see how it stacks up against key competitors like the Kia Telluride, Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-90, Subaru Ascent and more.

I appreciate the base model review, because that's very much what I'm more inclined to purchase. Mechanically, everything's all there, no need for unnecessary add ons and bits

Glad to see a base model reviewed. Most reviewers are stuck with the loaded top trim vehicles a manufacturer sends them. A base or one step above oftentimes is what a buyer is going to get. Question, does your right knee hit the console? One of my pet peeves and I've literally walked away from cars that do that to me while shopping.

The console is a little wide but a non issue for me here! It’s super hard to find more reasonably equipped press cars, unfortunately.

Fantastic that you are reviewing a base model. It seems all the other reviewers have top models with all the bells and whistles. Base models often times ride better with smaller wheels and tires with more sidewall, less wow- gadgets that can break or stop working right after the warrant expires, etc etc. Great job! 👍👍👍

The reason tyler is reviewing this or is able to review it is because he pulls the cars that he wants to review off a dealers lot-. I would think if you were reviewing a press vehicle, it would be fully loaded. Keep up the good work tyler! Keep reviewing the base models.

I would buy the LE AWD personally. My local dealerships have almost no inventory regardless! The CX-90 is way too big, the highlander is the perfect size for people who don’t haul a bunch of kids around!

Highlander has the Goldie locks size easy to drive and park. Perfect for people who want midsize comfort.

The cloth seat will age better than leather you just have to put seat covers in them

Thanks for the base model review. I prefer the plain unwrapped steering wheel. The added headroom without the sunroof is nice too. The only dislike for me, and this applies to both the L and LE, is the cloth inserts in the door panels. I have the same gripe about the Subaru Outback lower trims, and there the cloth extends to the dash. Similarly, the base Honda Pilot gives you a cloth center armrest. I prefer vinyl in those areas.

I would spend $ 5k more and buy the new, modern GH because you get a lot more for only $ 5k up

I'd much rather get a base Mazda CX-90 with 2 more cylinders, RWD based AWD, hybridization and better fuel economy despite much more power / torque - all for an OTD price that's usually lower compared to Toyota with its dealer mark-ups.
