I used it for 2 weeks, it is the worst upgrade done. Lot of things don't work. Very difficult to find out why things are not working. I switched back. It consumes lot of time. Waste of time. Don't switch
The new UI is a huge improvement, but after testing New Outlook for a few days, I realised that it's missing WAY too many features that the original ugly looking Outlook has. In the new Outlook I have none of the integrations with third party tools that I have with my old Outlook. In addition, the integration between OneNote and New Outlook is virtually non-existant. There is no way to send an email into OneNote in New Outlook, something that is essential to my working day. Also: You cannot save emails as neither .eml nor .msg to disc. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I know that New Outlook is simply just web outlook in a container running as a PWA, but Microsoft really shouldn't offer a NEW version, that doesn't contain all the functionality that you are used to from the old version. So no, I won't switch to new Outlook. All the missing features of New Teams were enough of a frustration.
ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!! Never have I agreed with any comment with such conviction as this. Andy Park should go take a walk in the park...with Bill Gates of Hell himself.
New Outlook is a massive degradation of function and features. Being able to pin and snooze is nice, but scheduling has always been available, as has "my day"-type features. (Snooze has also been available for decades using simple third-party add-ons.) Power users will be frustrated by New Outlook's lack of important features and functions that proper Outlook had evolved with over decades. Obviously, Microsoft has determined that features and functions aren't necessary to retain users, so they've intentionally degraded Outlook, knowing that it's a huge step backward for power users. It's surprising that Andy would suggest we switch when surely he too must be frustrated by the loss of so much function in New Outlook.
Amen! I quickly changed back to old Outlook when I realised this. But I'm sure Mickey$oft will soon force us to use New Outlook. They are in a position to do so. User friendliness has never been on the agenda for M$.
Indeed, it's very surprising that Andy would consider those few new features as justification to relinquish the power and function of proper Outlook. Snooze, send later, etc., have all been available in proper Outlook already.
@Cameron_Prymak For light users, New Outlook is probably very nice. But for those of us who are quick, power users with a high volume of email and email archives, New Outlook is a big step backwards. You're using PST files with New Outlook? There are MANY deficiencies, and Microsoft acknowledges that New Outlook does not (and never will) have the power and functionality of proper Outlook. That's because most users nowadays don't use such features. The fact that you don't even notice the lack of functionality in New Outlook supports Microsoft's assumptions.
@@molnez Agreed on that point. I write and use Outlook macros both for myself and some of my clients. All this "stuff" that Microsoft is doing for the new Outlook could have been incorporated into the client, but it feels like they're abandoning it in favor of a web-based app now (no big surprise there). I wish Microsoft would pay attention to their power user customers for a change.
The new outlook app per se looks slick but lacks some simple features like copy pasting attachments from one mail to another. Besides all the features except snooze is available in old outlook as well
The reason I havent switced yet is the following: I usually collapse my emails in my inbox: Today This Week Last Week Etc. Older I can mark these groups and quickly delete ALL the e-mail in the following groups. You can do that in the older outlook.
Normally Microsoft applications are obsolete or in testing and review. We have the case of MS Loop that has been going on for years and there is still a long way to go before it comes close to the functionalities of Notion. The new outlook is an unacceptable setback.
The New Outlook does not yet support IMAP email accounts, which is just about as fundamental these days as anything you can find. The idea that I would need to backtrack 20 years and reconfigure to a POP connection is crazy. When is this going to be fixed?
I have been using "new" Outlook for several months. Now it won't load. Also Outlook OWA stopped syncing messages on May 30. Back to Classic by necessity!
I agree it looks much better and I think it’s faster. As you’ve mentioned, a lot of the features with interaction between calendar/tasks/email already exist, but maybe not as easily found. My biggest issue at the moment is that it doesn’t interact as well with one note but hopefully the ability to drag emails in will come soon.
We have a personal and group inbox. I use personal categories, and the team mailbox has basically the names of everyone in the team as category to mark emails. Works in old Outlook, not possible with the new version. Also the team folders are not available to setup a Quicklink like „move emails to team inbox, mark with my name and show them unread“. We have to stick with the old version.
The new Outlook interface seems acceptable, but it presents significant issues: 1. All attachments open as previews or redirect to the web browser from the desktop application, bypassing desktop PDF viewers or other programs. 2. Clicking on the sender's email to select an attachment redirects you to the browser, opening a new tab where no actions can be performed. 3. If the attachment is a Word document, it redirects to Word Online, which is highly inefficient. For instance, the 'Wrap Text' option doesn't function properly. Clicking on an image and selecting 'Behind Text' doesn't work, nor does the 'In Front of Text' command. Additionally, pasting a text box doesn't allow for any movement, and the wrap function is inoperable. Assistance with making these features work in Word Online would be appreciated.
I am used working with flagged email so I have always a look on message I have to follow up. Now I see that when you drag messages in the to do sidebar they doesn't flag. What a bummer 😞
Hello Andy. Just getting back into building/rebuilding my PC(s) and found your channel in the process the other day. Love it! Thank you for the Airsoft Search My Files post. Appreciate it. Gonna go back and watch your other videos. 👍🏻
I can't add more than one recipient to my emails. I tried adding two names to the top line, but the second addition cancelled out the the first. Then I tried adding the second person via the CC and then the Bcc options, but that caused the same problem. I ended up having to send two separate emails. HELP!
I just want to use the old mail app. It doesn't matter why. I am now being forced to change. Can you make a video showing how to stop it from closing mail and opening outlook when I try to launce mail?
The older version has insert file menu which prompts latest file on top if you would like to attach which is useful but missing in new outlook. I too have switched back & forth to new but still prefer earlier version as new outlook just has better looks not most of the functionality except for snooze and adding select categories to Favourites
Andy - thanks for posting. Excellent video but unfortunately, you are a bit on your own in recommending a switch to the new Outlook. All blogs and reviews are negative, pointing to a whole range of issues and reduction in capabilities. I've been using it for 3 months and am discovering new limitations every week. For many of us, Outlook has been a central pillar of our business lives for at least two decades, so why is Microsoft launching a substandard version?
People are so resistant to change. I used this when it was in Beta all through 2023. Loved it our agency software required us to back up to 365 version of outlook. If one uses Teams and Todo you’ll probably like it. If you like Outlook Tasks and you like “finished” applications you won’t.
I actually like the new OUTLOOK email app. The only issue I have with it is that there's no pinch to zoom when trying to view a picture or you simply want to enlarge something. Besides that, after getting used to it I do like it now.
Niche question - I have VBA scripts that export invoices & order forms my Excel files into an Outlook email - I can't update to the "New Outlook" as it breaks the VBA code, saying the Object can't be found. Any idea how to specify New Outlook an application object in VBA? Cheers.
Hi @gripshaft - I'm not an expert on this but I understand that the new outlook uses web or JavaScript based technology, not a traditional desktop app. It doesn't support COM add-ins. Unfortunately, you won't be able to use your existing VBA script with the new outlook.
Get used to it. New Outlook intentionally breaks the integrations you mention, as well as eliminating much of the power and function that proper Outlook has had for decades.
Don't like the new outlook. It keeps opening by itself and sometimes opens a window within the main window. Been on the support section and trying to fix it.
Bro, please do make a video on "onenote" on below topic. I am a recent onenote user. - How to export pages properly in to a PDF so that all the pages are properly inline ? . I am facing lots of problems when exporting onenote pages to a PDF , notes gets upside down and hell lots of issues.
New Outlook lacks that and many other features and functions that proper Outlook has. It's a HUGE step backwards, but Microsoft assumes you have no choice and will tolerate the loss of function. Get used to it since proper Outlook is going away eventually.
Heyy !, So i actually wanted some help with the new outlook which is recently launched. Now in the old or the regular outlook whenever we had any emails with attachments, double clicking on them could open the attachments in your desktop ms office word or excel or ppt. But with this new Outlook, it only allows you to save the document first and then open in the desktop apps. If not saved it redirects to onedrive and then opens the document in a browser. This issue has been there since the start. Now i have a MS 365 subscription in my MS Office and i use multiple accounts but since i have a 365 subscription i should be able to open the attachments in desktop apps, but there is an issue where if i open any attachment from my licensed account it allows me, but in the same outlook if i go to another account (you can add multiple accounts but can have same license) it doesnt open in the desktop apps. I am attaching a few screenshots which might help you out understand the problem. So i want to know if there is an option to open all attachments in desktop apps as the old outlook used to, or anyway to activate the non license account with MS 365 activation having this new outlook
Yep I think that was deliberate to achieve more unified look across the apps. But I agree I didn't love the web feel and took some time to get used to it.
It looks like AND FUNCTIONS like the web app. New Outlook loses a huge portion of the function and features that proper Outlook has had for decades. But, you need to get used to it, since Microsoft has said that New Outlook will REPLACE proper Outlook soon.
This video shows Andy doesn't really know how to use the Classic Outlook. Nearly every "advantage" you listed, is available in the Classic Outlook. What's not discussed is the ton of missing features from the New Outlook. There is a bit of UI modernization but it doesn't nearly come close to offset all the things that are wrong with the New Outlook.
It's looks like you installed new outlook no contacts, no, calendar events no multiple email accounts like work email are not imported. all custom look and feel are gone, and you can't even restore a pst file. you can't even sort by day descending.
Will I lose my .pst files when I convert. Will I still be able to open these. I have over 10 years of history in .pst files which I refer to frequently
removing my installed add-ins was an automatic deal breaker. Not to mention the ability to click on shared drive links. It opens the web browser? Trash
Click and paste functions have been ruined. Utterly, totally decimated. It's boiling my p***. What the actual **** have they done. I literally cannot do my job.
people dissing on new outlook doesn't realize that it's gonna be buggy for sometime cause it's a new product! I personally love the integrated workspace! The intergration with tasks is amazing and the focus timers that are integrated with spotify is amazing!!
Just think folks..the next Outlook will open up with just three tiny little dots.....from there you can figure out the rest all on your own...who in the hell thinks removing 99% of the menu items is a good idea?
Clearly, he's getting paid or he does NOT use Outlook :). Most use Outlook cause its what work uses and at work is where you get to be really familiar with many functions most home users never even get to. The answer for anyone who is a professional user is a resounding NO!
I want to go on record that the New Outlook is a piece of shite. Yeah, it packs more, but daily usage is a turd. The pastels are too light and seeing my daily tasks requires a deep examination rather than a glance.
