Try adding 10 pushups per hour every hour... Just those few pushups consistently over time has a great effect... plus just keeping the reps low at 10 you won't get sore and can do it easily over time... That and walking is like magic

It’s weird, many people get expensive gym memberships, hit the gym hard for a couple of days, then don’t go and keep paying and they don’t go cause work keeps them tired and they went apeshit in their health kick that they burnt themselves out on working out. But constantly casually walking for at least an hour every day, is free, doesn’t burn us out and is good for us mentally. And it is tolerable on your joints. Just walking is underrated.

@scaredylamb 11 месяцев назад
What do you usually eat to keep the caloric intake low? I can walk a lot but the hard part for me is about what to eat to make the fat loss effective 🤔 I tried to avoid deep fried foods and lower the sweets too.
@deceptionsdemise
@deceptionsdemise 11 месяцев назад
@@scaredylamb avoiding fried foods and added sugars is what helped, along with portion control. For me, that's tough because that's what I'm used to eating but self-control will go a long way. Reading labels also helped. Think of it this way, making purchases with a credit card is easy but making those same purchases with cash is totally different. That's kind of a cheesy example, but I hope you get my point. Same goes with caloric intake. Seeing how much of whatever we're eating or drinking, will make us think twice when we have the knowledge of what our bodies limits actually are regarding sugars, carbs, sodium, etc. I hope that helped.

Totally agree! I’ve lost 95 pounds over the last year and at age 51 am in the best shape of my life and it’s largely do to persistent walking and movement throughout each day. Of course I made permanent life style changes with nutrition and sleep and stress management too, but walking is something I do every day, and I enjoy it so much. Yes I completely agree with you. I'm such a big lover of walking, simply because it helps elevate my mood if I feel low and it's so easy to do as well, especially if you can walk in a natural place as the forest atmosphere will boost your mood too. I find myself in the habit now of thinking "walk, nature" and my body obeys. And I know I will feel much better afterwards so once you get into the identity of a walker, you will always be a walker. I enjoy yoga, rebounding and swimming too but I feel very happy walking in nature so I will always do it. I'm glad to hear walking has really helped you be a better version of yourself. 🙏

Keep at it! I think our bodies are meant for activity, but our modern world absolutely goes against that. Our furniture has to be comfortable that keeps us sitting, most jobs are sedentary, even watching RU-vid or Netflix requires us to sit around most of the time. It’s reasonable to assume that our bodies kind of know that isn’t natural, and feelings like depression may certainly be linked. Active working out and exercising has long been linked with a sense of wellbeing, but even getting back to a habit and culture of simply walking must certainly signal to our bodies that we’re doing something good for ourselves.

I have to concur with Thomas . When i first started out my weight loss programme some 18 months ago, i was 271 Lb. All i did was walking and keto then added intermittent fasting and i lost 75Lb. I did NO HIIT or resistant weight training at all. No heavy cardio, just walking. I now walk 6 miles at least 5 days a week. Yes i now do some HITT and resistant weight training but the bulk of my cardio is still walking. At 65 years old with a heart condition i find walking less stressful on the joints and the heart. My latest blood test and Heart MRI was positive and my cardiologist was very impressed with the turn around in Metabolic health condition. Lost 8 inch's around my belly and 2 inches around my neck. Friends all say they have seen a real improvement in me. My energy levels are good and i think more clearly now. No fatty liver, kidney function is good, no hypertension and generally feel so much better.

i lost 50 pounds in about 4 months by only walking 60 - 90 minutes daily (twice on weekends) and going to a very low carb/calorie nuttrition. Went from about 225 - 175 lbs. He's telling the truth. Just walking and disciplined nutrition will get the fat off. Also.....hit the weights and stretch so you look more like Thomas than Gilligan.

I moved home for support and now I’m almost 50lbs down. When I started walking again it was 5-15mins very slow. Now I can walk over an hour, my pace isn’t the fastest but I’m moving with more ease everyday. Of course eating more whole foods and less processed things has aided but walking is a miracle workout and it can be done at every level!

And this is something that I really had put together for me when I took a trip to Japan earlier this year. Everyone. Walks. Walking is how you get to work, it’s how you get to the store, it’s how you get to the park, to a restaurant, back home from the restaurant. It’s all walking. The people are healthy, and I saw so few people who were overweight. Their expected life span is higher, their hospital bills are lower, their cholesterol levels, everything. It’s a shame our society could never sustain a change like that here in the States, but getting more and more walking in, is absolutely a game changer.

I was fit for my whole life until 2017, I gained 44 pounds which made me obese. I tried everything to lose it but it always end with failure. I was trying to go to the gym but I survived only couple of weeks. It was so frustrating for me to lose those pounds until COVID came in 2020 I had nothing to do due to quarantine. So I started walking at June 2020, 45 min a day after one month I doubled the time and make it 90 min a day no day off no matter what. It just took me 80 days to lose those 44 pounds and I became fit again and then joined the gym and continue for about a year and my body was in the best shape ever. So best advise for those who want to lose their weight it’s simple the formula is: (sport shoes + ground + time )= weight loss and the secret is with patience and consistency. And believe me once you see the results after a month, you will not stop walking until you reach your goal. I wish you all the best

*_Hmmm. Walking is my only exercise, how to get MAX benefits?_* *_It is better to go-for-a-walk-of-11,000-steps than it is to have walked 11,000 steps during the day at work, school, etc.; if so, why?_* *_Maybe best to be active throughout the day and add an 11,000 step walk in the evening, or maybe best to start the day with a 11,000 step walk._* *_17-18,000 step walk is 2h-2,5h who has time for that every day??_* *_If you walk 11,000 steps each day, 7 days a week, that is 77,000 steps._* *_If you walk 18,000x3 times in a week, that's 54,000 steps in a week._* *_The 11,000 steps does not wear you out like the 18,000 steps does, but the 18K x3 is less steps than 11K x7-and the 18k is not each day._* *_Is then the 11,000 steps a day better?_* *_Maybe 11,000 or more each day and 1 once a week a 25,000 steps walk is a good idea? Maybe not, see, if I walk too long, I won't walk the next day. Finding the correct amount of steps so I can walk each day is hard, but it does increase by itself. It's a conundrum. But now you say 17-18,000 is "max for benefit"._* *_It gets me thinking. Walking has been my only "workout", but in the winter I walk max x3 a week. I think I should just aim for 18K a day AND a 25K a week. I mean, as long as you walk, the more fat you burn? But then, 25K steps walk each day MUST be better than 11K each day? It's more than twice as long it must burn twice as much fat?_* *_I might be remembering my own math wrong, but a 3h walk each day for 365 days would burn off 70Kg of fat. Does that sound way off? Maybe it was 40kg in a year? If a 3h walk is an additional 1,500 Kcal burned off and 1 Kg fat is 7,700Kcal...that's 70Kg. If a 3h walk a day is an additional 1,000 Kcal burned off, that's 47Kg a year. How can this be right? I'll stick by 40Kg, then you can correct me if you choose to._* *_But! If you "just walk a lot during the day" and at the end of the day you have walked for 3h: have you burned off the same amount as going-for-a-3h-walk? I'd say no, the 3h walk is much, much better._* *_Daily walking DOES TONE THE ENTIRE BODY, you can really see it, just by walking, you shrink symmetrically._* *_And you will go up 1 size in shoe size._*

Thank you so much for this video. It makes me feel good that a sophisticated fitness/health expert like you recommends walking.

You are right! I've lost over 60 pounds twice and a lot of it was me walking on my lunch breaks. It didn't seem like exercise just casually walking around a lake to destress mid-day from work. But both times I was doing this but didn't even consider it part of my daily exercise.

I agree about the benefits. Would you consider a video about the mechanics of walking? Ex. Pushing vs. pulling, posture when walking, using sticks or not, etc.

2 years ago I lost 60 lbs and my only exercise was walking. I did other healthy things but that was my main form of exercising. Careful though, it will draw you in. I started walking 10 minutes a day and ended up in the woods with a 30 lb rucksack wanting more. It started feeling great and is very rewarding. I had to cut back but still love it. Good luck!

Gentle exercise like swimming at a calm pace or walking is so underestimated. In addition to everything you said walking, specially outside, is one of the most anxiety reducing and mental health balancing activities anyone can do. ❤❤❤

been thinking about increasing my walking, although im in the gyme @ least 3 days outside of the week. There is something special about walking compared to other more intense excercise, so i think ima start incorporating it into my life again. thanks for the video!

Totally agree!!! I’m a dancer and workout everyday but I feel walking is what helps mostly with fat loss!!🎉

I started ballet last May and I am so much stronger and leaner than ever, but I feel I’m at a plateau with fat loss, just kind of stuck even though I can feel my muscles getting stronger. It looks like I need to start walking!! I want to get one of those watches to track myself.

dancing (and martial arts) are not just about movement, coordination also burns lots of calories and makes your brain work. It's amazing. I shuffle dance during my warmup for calisthenics training :))

@@lupus_croatiae oh that’s really cool! I knew my brain is working extra hard with coordination (esp bc I have adhd, it’s like body coordination dyslexia, I often do the wrong arms or go the wrong direction lmao)

Great vid. Thanks Thomas. I'm at 10-15km daily flats and slopes combined. 1 to 2 day break / week. No one can outwalk or outwork a bad diet.

Couldn’t be more happy to see this video! Walking is life changing. No gym membership required. I used walking as a bio-hack to wellness and fitness… I get to spend time with my dogs while getting sun, fresh air etc etc. If you want to bio hack this the discipline of walking do it soon as you get up in the morning - this way nothing can get in the way. And watch your vibration and mood sky rocket.

I'm 5ft 6 and weighed 210 pounds a year ago. I was tired all the time, and my knees were killing me. I always felt like shit. I started on a low-carb diet slowly, cutting out fried foods. I started to walk four days a week, thirty minutes a day. I started walking more and eating healthier. I lost 40 pounds in five months, dropping from 210 to 170 pounds. Walking saved my life. I still walk four to five days a week about 15-18 miles.

Walking is the best. So many people going too hard trying to just jump straight into running and hurting themselves or getting burnt out. Just walk!

Thank you for keeping your videos clear, concise and to the point. There are other people out there with great information, but they go on and on and on🙄 I do not have the time to watch a half hour video on something that could be summed up in 7 minutes

Its good to see someone promoting cardio. It has so many health benefits. Too many people online telling people not to bother with cardio because you can get leaner from eating less. I started cycling indoors and its great because I can do the low intensity for a long time and burn more calories but still do the high intensity a couple of times a week and maybe a race on zwift and improve things like v02 max. Also interesting to look at how cardio can affect mitochondria, even in the brain and decrease risk of metabolic disease by helping improve mitochondria function.

Agree with this. I’m 40 now, and back in 2019 my wife and I joined a step challenge that got us fairly obsessed with walking, which only increased during COVID. I do about 4 days of weights and a couple short runs and swims as well per week and although I used to do all this earlier in life, I have never looked quite as ripped as I do now, which I massively put down to walking.

Excellent video. Incorporating walking into errands like walking to work or supermarket makes it much easier and doesn't feel like exercise.

I always noticed how just walking doesn’t make you much hungrier. When you go for a run or lift weights, you will probably crave the exact amount of calories you burned during the workout. But with just walking, depending on how much you walked, you don’t crave the amount of calories that you burned. Also for me it’s always been the case that after a good walk i wanted to eat healthy things and it was also easier to eat less. You kinda wanna stay light

Totally agree. I was at my heaviest when I was running half marathons. I was always so hungry. Plus you tell yourself you’re burning so many calories you can afford to eat a ton of carbs. I dropped 40 lb by walking and feel less anxious too

I noticed the same thing- I didn’t understand it - not complaining though lol I think walking reduces cortisol too
