Literally from point 1 it’s clear no research went into this video.
@lettacorporation

Isn't it obvious that as Godot only has been popular with 2, 3 years has less information available? Where is the lack of research then?
@koalalorenzo
@koalalorenzo 2 дня назад
I am missing some info here! Uhm, did you do a small research about these things? Can you link the sources of what you are saying? For example, the amount of developers behind open source projects, or the worst quality of code, etc etc. Would be nice to know where you got these information from!😅
@lettacorporation

I presented quite obvious facts that with a Google search can be easily validated or using common sense. What will have more developers? An engine that has only being popular for the last 2, 3 years? Or an engine that has been the industry standard for the past decades? What will have better code quality? An engine that has only being existing for something like 3 years (after Godot 3)? Or an engine that has been the industry standard for the past decades and has much more years of work behind?

@@lettacorporation in my career (and I worked at Unity) I can tell you that quality and amount of developers it’s not impacted by the code being backed by a company or a foundation (Like Godot is). I would suggest to document yourself before assuming “obvious facts” that are just obvious to you 😅. I would agree on open source projects if you would link amount of contributors or release cadence (you can check both here: github.com/godotengine/godot )

The quality of the code doesn't automatically improve over time. Often, new features will be added and prioritized over improving existing code, regardless on the form of organization (foss/company). Code quality depends entirely on the skill of the people who wrote it, assuming they have been given enough time to implement it.

I'm definitely putting you on my do not recommend list. You're such a contradictory content creator. You can't make a video about the top Godot tools or how to get started with Godot and then also make videos about why you don't use it. Not to mention you just made this video two weeks ago. Seems like you're just trying to cash in on Godot hype. Good luck with your channel.
@lettacorporation

I make Godot videos because the fact that I don't use it doesn't mean is not worth learning. Also, there is less competition of tutorials, as there is a lack of information as mentioned in the video; this results in reaching a broader audience, potentially. So, if I don't use it personally, why can't I create videos about it?
@DeadIndGames
@DeadIndGames 2 дня назад
@@lettacorporation that is the EXACT reason you shouldn't make videos about it. There's nothing wrong with a once off video saying it looks like Godot is doing this or that but you're making videos on how to make games in Godot and top tools in Godot. How are you spreading the correct information if you're not actually using these things?
@lettacorporation
@lettacorporation 2 дня назад
@@DeadIndGames I don't use the engine, but that doesn't mean the information I provide isn't accurate. Just the opposite. In fact, I used Godot for more than one year, and always keep up to date with the latest news

This guy is so weird. He has basically established the premise of his channel on Godot to the point that he would make a Godot-related video every day or every other day, and then proceed to say that he is not using Godot. Click-Bait much? Needless to say that he doesn't even provide any useful information in those videos, just shiny titles.
@lycorislillies

Then why you make godot videos... What is the purpose of this video? Sure, Godot has problems. Complaining won't solve the issues; contributing will. And you did contribute to some extent. However, don't waste your time making *this* type of videos, they're just obvious to anyone.

Oof, you are going to get some backlash for criticising Godot, but I think you're both wrong and right in different cases. Disagree about tutorials, there are resources for most things. Not as many as, for example, Unity perhaps, but it's certainly not lacking. Godot existing for 2 or 3 years? Factually incorrect. Unreal 5 was released in 2022 - has Unreal been out for 2 years and should be avoided by your logic? Using Godot 3 and 4, for example, is a relatively seamless transition. You are spot on about Godot lacking some features that other engines have though. I would offer proper post processing and geometry shaders as examples (more on this later...), but there is a long list. What you said about only encountering this when doing something specific is one of the most important points you make. It is often only when you are deep into a project that you find Godot doesn't offer some basic functionality that you just assumed would be present or work properly because of how common it is in other engines. This can be pretty devastating if you have invested a lot of time into Godot. Lack of support for 16 bit PNGs (useful for terrain), despite reasonable demand (I think you can now use EXRs) particularly for terrain. Can't argue with lack of jobs. Godot isn't widely used commercially and it's undeniable that experience with a widely used engine will help more. You are very brave to criticize open source, hope you are ready for the abuse that brings. But you are correct, and it's mostly those who havn't used Godot extensively that will fight you on this. Godot is plagued by unprofessional development practices resulting in ridiculous bugs going unnoticed for years on end, and bare minimum features going ignored because people work on what they want/need, not what the engine needs to be competitive - and by competitive I mean viable in the face of it's competition. Even worse is that one of the most important parts of open source, the community contributions, is being stifled by a dictator style leadership who frequently turns down important features, suggesting that they are allready in the works but never seeming to happen. The 16bit png I mentioned earlier is another example. They were rejected repeatedly by one individual because he was worried that people who didn't know what they were doing would use them by accident and waste memory. This is utterly ridiculous reasoning. Godot isn't "Kids first Game Engine for ages 5-12", and beginners like that arn't realistically going to publish something anyway. It's been over 10 years since a proper post processing stack was supposed to have been done, and the community has tried to provide it, only to be turned down since Godot 4 will have one on the new rendering code - SPOILER: IT DIDN'T. Another developer implemented Geometry shaders only to be turned down by the same person. I may seem overly critical here. I use and love Godot but sometimes it can be such a pain in the ass.
