Yes it is! I absolutely loved "Let the Right One In". It's such a refreshing take on a vampire films. Yet, it takes them very seriously without all this "glittering" stuff. Ps. And number 6: "The pool scene" :-)

Yes! The pool scene is great! Didn't want to spoil for people who haven't seen it, but it's definitely one of the best parts of the movie :)

Such a beautiful film. Can’t believe it’s 13 years old already. The book is absolutely amazing and is my favourite book. I couldn’t put it down. I read on trains, buses, coffee shops, bus stops and even at half time in a packed football stadium.

I watched this movie few days ago and there after it obsessed my mind and heart. I often search facts and explanation videos on youtube about this movie. I can't explain much in words what I feel. Only my heart can understand my feelings.

I watched this movie about 10 times, heres my take on the real plot which for the most part is obscure unless you connect the clues. Eli's older caretaker is being replaced, Eli has hand picked Oscar as a possible replacement due to his mental state of mind. The old guy I think loves Eli, and in one scene she gently strokes his cheek, thus encouraging some affection. The old guy knows he is about to be replaced and prepares himself to be the fall guy for all the mysterious murders in the area. Both the old guy and Oscar tend to depict thier mental state is slightly off, so Eli has sought similier qualitites in Oscar as her future caretaker in training .

Not according to the author. He has even wrote a follow up called Let The Old Dreams Die.

In the book he doesn't love Eli and Eli doesn't love him. I won't ruin the book for you, but it's very intense and worth reading.

In the book, Hakan is just a pedophile who abuses her and Oskar is the one who brings her back to acting like the kid she truly is.
@danielsalsbury4169

This is the hidden ending that so few people see. This is why this movie ranks as one of the very best vampire true horror films made. The way that the caretaker comes back and pursues Eli in the novel leaves proof of this

My favorite vampire film a dude from this is the original Fright Night. A tight core concept, it follows the lore, and the vampire as the sexual predator has never been done better. After that Lost Boys and Near Dark. The 80s was just a good time for vampire movies apparently.

Thank you for this video. This is one of my favorite stories. Both the book and the Swedish movie are amazing. So, at the end of the movie when Eli and Oskar are on the train and communicating with Morise code , if you didn't know they are tapping out the word K.I.S.S. to each other. Amazing. One other thing. If you didn't know , there's a book called" Let the old dreams die ". It's a book of short stories and the last story in the book is the conclusion of Eli and Oskars story. I was completely balling at the end of the story when I read it. I won't say if the were sad or happy tears . You'll have to read it for yourself. It's so cool that it completes the story of "Let the right one in," but, in a way it opens up a new can of worms, so to speak. Thanks again ✌️.

Great video! And personally, I would love to hear a review on the book- I've also read it and I love it. I think it's far more than a thriller or horror story- it's many things. Jeff Davis' new show 'Let The Right One In' had its pilot picked up. He's tackling vampires this time around! Very interested to see his take on them. I love what he did with Teen Wolf.But getting back to this new show, Let the Right One In is based on John Ajvide Lindqvist’s novel, which was adapted into a Swedish film by Tomas Alfredson in 2008. An American remake was made not too shortly after starring Chloë Grace Moretz titled, Let Me In. That's the one I've seen and am familiar with. It's a heavy film with very dark themes but I liked it overall. Kristine Froseth is playing the vampire in the series. She's more of a model than an actress but I really like her look. She looks like Chloë Grace Moretz's version but a lot older which I think is very cool. And also I trust Jeff Davis. He got Colton Haynes who was also a model with little acting experience and yet he did a great job in both Teen Wolf and Arrow. So I'm interested to see Kristine Froseth as a lead actress and what she'll be like. deadline.com/2016/09/let-the-right-one-in-kristine-froseth-cast-eli-tnt-pilot-vampire-1201828738/

I actually saw this film for the first time this month and I too thought it was amazing. I connected a lot with the two 12-year-old children in the film and I think the relationship between the two characters and I thought the two young actors really clicked so well together. I could definitely relate to Oskar a lot with the bullying storyline as well. I also saw the American remake not long after and as remakes go, it's not bad. I did like the style and cinematography to it, but I just didn't connect with it the same way, plus its just way too derivative of the original. Definitely would love to see what you made of the book :)
@ImpressionBlend
@ImpressionBlend 7 лет назад
I saw the remake in theatres and didn't like it. Actually tried to watch it again the other day to see if my opinion changed... and couldn't even make it through the whole thing. It's not terrible, but the original is just superior in every way for me so I don't really understand why the remake even exists? lol
@scottbailey7715
@scottbailey7715 7 лет назад
I'm glad I'm not alone in feeling like that as I kinda felt the same. I found it particularly noticeable how much better the original was because I saw them one day apart. I did wonder if that was slightly unfair on my part. I have a very similar stance to you when it comes to remakes.

Hi Marianna - Thanks so much for your great review of this great film. It's one of the few Horror/Thrillers that transcend the genre to also be an Art House film. And, your review will introduce a lot of people to a film that too few people are aware of. You hit on all of the important points. The Vampires name is actually pronounced E-Lee. I think it was to separate the name Eli (male) from Ellie (female). For those people who get the DVD, watch it with the Theatrical subtitles (there are 2 different subtitles listed) and in the original Swedish (the dubbed version is OK, but not great). Yes, I would like to see your review of the book and make some comparisons to the movie. Finally, my favorite Vampire film is Nosferatu (1922). Best wishes, Ted

@theolamp5312

+Khue Lor - I think the mixed reviews on Let Me In are partially due to people who have not seen the original. Because of the great story, Let Me In is a good movie. It just doesn't compare with the Artistry of LTROI. I don't think watching the remake will ruin your love of the original. I think it might make you appreciate the original more. Best wishes, Ted

MY TOP TEN FAVORITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME 1) The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982) 2) It's a Wonderful Life (1946) 3) The Prince who was a Thief (1951) 4) Narnia: the Lion, the witch, and the wardrobe (2005) 5) Let the Right One In (2008) - Swedish with English caption 6) A Silent Voice (2016) - Japanese with English caption 7) My Rainy Days (2009) - Japanese with English caption 8) Silence (2016) 9) Beauty and the Beast (2017) 10) Goodbye, Christopher Robin (2017) So what could have beaten this list? If "Narnia: the Lion, the witch, and the wardrobe" had gone to the adult actors at the end for the next movie, in "Narnia: The Horse and his boy" and then "Narnia: The Magician's Nephew" with the last of the movies being "Narnia: The Last Battle." Then "Narnia: The Magician's Nephew" could have made it to number one. I would love to have seen the end of a world with THE WHITE WITCH brought to life again to come to England in 1902 to rip lamp posts out of the ground and throw them like tooth picks and to pick up extremely heavy cars from the end of the 19th century and throw them around as if they are a GeoMetro car which weighs like nothing. Then to have them all go to the beginning of a world with creation and THE LION as God creating so that the ultimate wicked and the ultimate good facing each other and the nephew who will one day have a wardrobe to another world having to be tempted to eat of the tree of life and live forever would be amazing. The other movie that could have beaten this list would be "Let Me In" or some "Let the Right One In" remake with a fat "Oskar" with four parts. This would require first the boy who wishes to control a girl, the beginning of love followed by a kiss making "Oskar" back off realizing something is wrong, then a boy hating the vampire while she still loves him and guards him with Hakan coming back to life and thus allowing the "Psycho" scene of Eli wearing his mother's dress and telling him to not go out at night due to her desire to kill Hakan before Hakan kills Oskar, so that Oskar could yell out, "You sound just like my mother" and Eli being in his mother's dress. The last part would be Oskar realizing he loves the vampire due to a second kiss realizing she sees him as the powerful one due to her past abuse while a human being far worse than anything he ever experienced and thus he wants to protect her again and does as she sleeps in a bathtub of blood. You would need to have Tommy then in the movie, like in the book to have to deal with Hakan after seeing Hakan trying to sexually molest Eli and thus tipping the hand as to what the vampire actually is... A molested child who thus never grows up and sees itself as worthless, wanting to run off and sleep in a bathtub of blood for a long period of time to hibernate as vampires do when the violence towards them becomes to great or reminds them of their beginnings due to pedophilia. This would likely make a new list of the following: 1) Narnia: the Magician's Nephew (the creation of Narnia) 2) Lat Den Ratte, Komma In (love story/horror movie of 2 abhorrent kids) 3) The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982) 4) It's a Wonderful Life (1946) 5) The Prince who was a Thief (1951) 6) Narnia: the Lion, the witch, and the wardrobe (2005) 7) Let the Right One In (2008) - Swedish with English caption 8) A Silent Voice (2016) - Japanese with English caption 9) My Rainy Days (2009) - Japanese with English caption 10) Silence (2016)

I finally watched it two days ago. I loved the sparse, washed out, pale color scheme overall, the very delicate and precise use of CGI, the slow pace and the believable dialogues. I loved how the camera is still during so may scenes and the action happens within that still frame. And then, I started watching the american version. I only saw like a minute and noticed the stark changes: loud, color saturated, moving camera, etc. I will watch it just to compare, but It only took about 60 seconds to dislike it due to the contrast.

Favourite vampire film ... phwoar, gotta be Twilight! Now you've finished choking on your coffee ... this one is actually my favourite. Previous to that, it would have been a toss up between Interview With the Vampire and Salem's Lot (1978); probably Salem's Lot by a narrow margin. The US remake of this is also a damn good film, but I think they pushed the boat out a little too far with the effects - e.g; the scene outside the hospital. In this version, on my first viewing I didn't notice Eli clinging to the wall until she moved. In the US one, the building is so big you won't even see Abby at all unless you know what you're looking for. The vamp attacks in the US version are so clearly CGI, where in this one they look more realistic to me. A few examples where you don't need a massive budget to make a film like this. I find this version more watchable in it's simplicity and the foreign language makes it, for me, more relaxing to watch.

+Golden Cherub - Hi - I still prefer LTROI over Interview, but I also loved Interview and many of Ann Rice's novels. Her prose at times is almost poetic. I thought her 4th, Tale of the Body Thief was also excellent. Her last one, Prince Lestat, is also very good. The thing that most amazed me in the Interview movie was Claudia. I couldn't imagine how anyone could portray that character. But, Kirsten Dunst pulled it off. Best wishes, Ted

First time viewer and I agree with you when you say this movie is a master piece. In fact the book and the two movies are all perfect masterpieces in my opinion. I'm curious, did you ever read John Ajvide Lindqvist's Let The Old Dreams Die? Its a collection of short stories and one of them (by the title Let The Old Dreams Die) is a short sequel to Let the Right One In. And any questions you have about what happens after the end of the first book are answered. If you haven't read it yet I highly recommend you it for you and all other fans of Let The Right One In.

Thank you. Let The Right One In is one of my favorite books and my number one favorite vampire tale. There is just something about it you know? Even though it is fictitious, the way its told it feels like something that could have really happened. Its so beautiful and perfect. Lindqvist has out down every novelist when comes to vampires. And that includes Bram Stoker and Anne Rice. Not only that but the people who did the two movies did the book justice. That's an extreme rarity. Also do you do reviews for movies and books? I haven't had a chance to look over all your videos. But if you do can you give us a review of Let The Old Dreams Die after you read it? Thanks for reading and I certainly subscribing to your channel.

Great review. I watched this not long after it came out and was just blown away by its beauty. I'm not exaggerating in saying I've re watched it maybe 20 to 30 times (my Blue ray dvd is getting worn out) and almost every time I've noticed something subtle I missed on previous viewings. Should be compulsory viewing for all film school students. Unfortunately the American remake was an abomination in comparison to this masterpiece.

I'm never usually concerned about other peoples' film tastes (it's all subjective and you like what you like, right?), but every time I see someone say that Let Me In (the American remake) is better than this, or I see it on some "superior remakes" click-bait list, I legitimately get pissed off. Like, how can people be so wrong? Just... HOW? But yeah, this film is a straight-up masterpiece. And like you I read the book after seeing the film, and it's quite the eye-opener! I still don't know how to feel about Eli's backstory.
@ImpressionBlend
@ImpressionBlend 7 лет назад
I know EXACTLY what you mean! I'm a strong believer in films being subjective just like any other art form... But with this movie in particular every time people try to tell me the remake is good I just feel so confused and annoyed... Did we see the same movies? How is this possible?!
@CorbCorbin

Sadly, it comes down to sub titles for some. I've tried multiple times to enlighten, friends to the original, and much better versions, of US, or English speaking remakes. One film I tend to agree is equally enjoyable, in its own way is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. But I think that has to do with Fincher's incredible direction.
@ReligionOfSacrifice

"Let the Right One In" is brilliant as a LOVE STORY from the book removing the odd parts and selling you a bill of goods, which you know is not right. Any remake beating it would have to have something cleaned up from the book, while having the kids more chilling or showing the development of the relationship even more, the bathtub needs to be full of blood, and Hakan must come back to life, so that you can have the Psycho scene where only then does Eli finally wear something a girl would wear, and before that it is non-sex determined clothes like tee-shirts and jeans.

I just watched the film for the first time, even though I’m not a fan of horror at all, but I was like: “film about two kids, how creepy can it be?” As it turns out, pretty creepy! 😳 There is this sense of doom that just keeps slowly building throughout the film, and I think I watched the latter half at a pretty low volume. 😁 Liked it very much, and the film and story is really well put together, but I can’t say I “enjoy” the feeling these films leave you with. 🤭 My favorite vampire movie - as if I’ve seen a lot in that genre 🤗 - is Only Lovers Left Alive. 💉

I love this original version so much! I've seen it multiple times, and the subtlety is quite amazing. Oskar desperately wants to morph into a predator, but lives as a gazelle. He 's abandoned... Alone in the world. Eli is the right one! She's the predator who wants to be a child again... Oskar's non-judgmental, child innocence and Eli's desire for that innocence, draws both into something more powerful than any romance.

Eli will manipulate, devour and throw away whoever she targets without remorse and Oskar will end up like the previous caretaker. Once he is deemed no longer fit for purpose, he will be old, damned and heartbroken and eventually he’ll be replaced by a new, vulnerable and wayward youth. It’s inevitable and this cycle will continue for as long as Eli stalks the earth. If you find yourself capable of sympathising or excusing Eli’s actions or motivations then I fear your moral compass is seriously out of whack!

I loved that film. It touched me in so many ways. Long time ago I was bullied as well and like Oscar I could not defend myself. A girl like Eli ( the actress shows an incredible depth in her character amazing for a 12-year-old!) symbolizes warmth, protection and a friendship, which turns into an innocent form of love. Unknowingly I was longing for someone like her all my life. I had to cry in the middle of the night watching the snowflakes falling down...

Favorite vampire movie(s) ? (Marvel Comics + Vampires.. Hard to not like) Blade and Blade 2 (I liked 2 more / better cuz I liked the new concept of vampires + for those who love Daryl in #TWD that movie also had ,,Daryl,, as a douchebag) * Dracula (1992) - I am from Romania and even if the: Vlad Țepeș was a vampire (and other) BS is a popular thing in this world I also (still) enjoy Dracula s myth and his popularity * Underworld Evolution - I always liked Kate Beckinsale so having her being bad-ass and hot looking is a BIG BONUS (make her a vampire and I'm in love haha) / And yes.. I will see the next one too (Guilty pIeasure or not.. f-ck it.. I will see that movie) #KateForCatwomanDC * 30 Days of Night (I really liked the atmosphere in that movie) - I might see it again this winter * Stake Land (2010) - pretty underrated movie but I liked and the last one: Vampires (1998) with James Woods.. I first saw this movie when I was a kid and I really enjoyed back then haha (still brings some nostalgia for me).. From what I remember.. this was the first movie who made me enjoy seeing vampire stuff in movies and the next one was Blade.. I knew about Blade since the animated tv show of Spider-man (1994-1998). He was in some episodes and Peter Parker as Spider-Man was an ADULT (the adult that I still want in these recent movies) .. I was pretty happy when they released a Blade movie too

If you think about it. The fate of Oscar is worse than death. Structurally, the story is based on the vampire as a serial killer. I liked it, but why they remade it is beyond me. It's not gory enough to be considered horror by current American audiences. It's too depressing for most moviegoers. And it's a difficult film to market because it mixes genres.
@ImpressionBlend
@ImpressionBlend 7 лет назад
I go back and forth on this - yes, he is the new "caretaker"... Which to a normal human sounds terrible. But Oskar is a messed up kid, and unlike the previous guy he seems like he is glad to do it. So maybe it's a happy ending for him?
@chester6671
@chester6671 7 лет назад
I don't think Oskar realizes what his new role entails yet, by the end of the film. He was bullied, but doesn't seem troubled. It was wise for the film not to answer the question. At least there is a faint hope that things might turn out differently.
