I believe the answer is that, to not only place their poop into the litter box (with gloves of course) but to watch for whenever they stick their tails up and place the ferret themselves in the litterbox

I would teach them the same way I taught all my cats when they were kittens.I would put their poop in the litter box then put them in it to show them their poop and l let them sniff it.When I see them getting ready to do their business I would put them in it.When they used the litter box I would praise them with lots of love and treats.I would do this repeatedly until they learned were to go.

Placing a small amount of poop into the box helped my boy work out what it was for. (Though if I don't clean often enough he goes outside it)

I don't think their very clean, trust me 5 years teaches you alot

The best way to get a ferret used to a litter box is to put in some of the waste into the litter box to produce a scent and put the litter box at the location of where they go to the toilet the most

Where did you get your litter box

My ferret refuses and seems to go out of his way to not use the litter box after using it his entire life. He literally goes through more effort to avoid it than he would if he just used it, even when it's perfectly clean. And as I said, he previously used it his entire life. Even when I put them in the litter box when I see them about to pee or poop, they sometimes just then refuse to pee or poop.

The best way in my personal experience is to pick them up when i see them backing into a corner amd raising their tails, and putting them in their litter box. usually works pretty quickly, if they are still a little confused i put any accidents in the litter tray so they know thats the place to go!

Anyone else have their ferrets pretend to use their litter tray when they are waiting to come out to play, like they are showing you they are ready? When I had 3 ferrets (down to one now), they would often do that, lol.

mine prefer to use their litter box as a bed, even when their is the poop in there. i clean daily except the litter box because they will avoid the poop i have placed in there and sleep around it

I think the best way you can show a ferret to use a litter box is by waiting until he/she has to use the bathroom and if they back in a corner to go pick it up and put it in the litter box before it’s to late!

One for mine was they started sleeping inside the clean litter box, they’re chewers so aren’t allowed blankets at the moment (11 weeks old) so they would use the litter box instead of the plastic houses I have in their cage. I had to put their poop back in the litter box to stop them sleeping in it and it helped.

Re the question at the beginning (how to get a ferret to use its litter box), put one of the ferrets ready-prepared poos (!) in the litter tray so they associate the poo and the tray, then (later on) when you see the ferret reversing to poo elsewhere, put the ferret immediately in the tray. If the ferret poos in the tray, give her/him a treat. Using a clicker + treat could also help. :-) however if they don't poo in the tray, don't give the treat (to ensure there's no confusion). Do this every time they poo (if possible) for a while to reinforce the learning.

thank you for the video, i got a new 6 mouth old ferrets a few months ago and where they had him the litter box was flipped over and the other one was empty and was be used by my ferret as a bed. it took awhile to get him to use a little box, i tried moving the poop in there and if he pooped while he was out, I picked him up and put him in the litter box. in his cage i had to block of every corner until all he had let to go was in his litter box, it took a few weeks but he got better. outside the cage is a different story. he knows were the litter box is, but instead of going inside the litter box, he will go right next to it. he is also i think very lazy, so the litter box i have in one corner is those big onces, and all the other ferret go in there, to me it seems like he doesn't want to to that 2-3 hop in the box. i had to get him something similar to yours where its easy to walk it and he loves that one smh!!!

When I first got my ferret, I put a litter box in one of the corners of his cage (on each floor) and the rest of the corners I put materials or toys. This taught my ferret that the only place he can poop in without it being bedding or a toy was the litter box!

I trained our ferrets to use the pan by placing the litter box in the corners of where they like to go to the bathroom in there cage. And reward them with a treat when I see them use it. When they are out of the cage I place the litter pans in corners of the room they play in in the same set up as in there cage. Again rewarding them for using it.

Or in the case of one of the three ferrets I've owned you may of struck the lottery and obtained the fabled "Potty Bandit" who goes wherever they please unless pressured by the owner 24/7. They know full well where they are suppose to go, they just choose not to no matter how clean or spacious the locale. Sometimes even making potty in the middle of a room breaking all corner logic! Mine ended up living the longest of the three to boot at 6 years! His little brother is 4 and on his way out from that nasty lymphoma as well. The middle one his sister didn't make it to 2. Cancer can go take a giant leap off the steepest cliff!

I’ve got until August to glitter train them because I’m taking them to the beach. So far all they’ve done is sleep in it 😐😂😂💀

I have a male ferret who is throwing his poop outside the cage. I have two other ferrets both female all three of them are fixed. The oldest one if she has an accident outside the cage she knows to go on the tile not the carpet. She has taught the younger female this. The mail doesn’t seem to get the idea that poop does not go on carpet and then I clean the cage every time they go to the bathroom. My favorites ages one who is the oldest is over a year the younger female is around three months and the male is around two months old. My oldest has started making a hissing sound since we brought the two home earlier this week. I feel like it’s some type of parenting sound telling them what to do and what not to do. My only guess is that his habit is because there’s not much space in the cage. It’s a decent sized cage but I took most of the shelves out well they are learning to climb because when I had all the shelves in and they were falling off the top one and I don’t want them to hurt themselves. I put my older ferret in their cage she’s taught them how to climb and I’ve put one shelf in there right now so that they can practice. They’re starting to get the hang of it but do you have any suggestions for his bathroom habits?

i have a problem, my new ferret is over 6 mouths and where i got him they just had litter box's just laying around, so they were being used as beds and toys, this is why I think the problem stems from, but he likes to lay in the litter box and not when its just clean, but when theres poop in it and sometimes gets on him. has anyone experience this and have any ideas to stop him!!?

Thank you. This was uploaded at the perfect time. One of my girlfriend's ferrets, Raiden, is going outside his box. He's even gone IN their food! :( And now my Ferret, Grizz, (he's my first, your videos have been VERY helpful) that I've had for about three weeks is starting to learn by bad example. When I bring him back home to my house, he's sticking his butt outside the box. And her older ferret, Dante, and Grizz aren't wanting to even go down to the lower levels of the cage because Raiden is going on the ramp. So even though we clean it, they don't want to step there.
