This is the 5 Seeing Habits you must recite to be a driver for UPS. I created this, just like the 10 Point Commentary, to help family and friends become drivers. Play this video while driving down the road to help you study.
I highly recommend making flash cards. I've spent days trying to memorize this using the audio method and writing it over and over....and though I could remember them when writing it, I'd go blank when I tried to remember them without the initial reference. Tonight I made flash cards, with the title "Aim high in steering" then the how and why on back along with the key phrase. I spent 10-20 minutes running through it only glancing at the back to see the first word and that triggered the memory. Having ran through it for 20 minutes or so I am able to remember them now. I should have done flash cards early on like my wife suggested....don't tell her I said she was right.
you're absolutely right. that indeed worked for me also. flashcards and trying to remember them and glancing if you forget helps. this video also will help. but just like the guy in the video you have to read it aloud to yourself.
@@DustinDeweerd it has to be, I am going to Portland integrad this week and was told I'd need to know the 5 points verbatim and the bold portions of the 10 points and explain in my own words. I was only given 2 days so I really hope that's the case.
Like a number of people in the comments here, I’m also working two jobs and have a lot of life issues going on, but I’ve been hammering this and the 10s video in my headphones while at my second job and at home doing housework. I’m going to nail this. Thank you so much for making these.
@@that_619_dude4 the 10s have changed now. They want a why answer for each one and #1 is clearing intersections and not starting up at intersection. So wording has changed a bit.
THANK YOU..... i’ll try to keep this short but this video has been so helpful I wanted to express my gratitude. I was invited to driver school on very short notice. Which included working overnights and watching my daughter during the days leading up to it.As you may know this equals zero sleep. I’ve been having a hard time absorbing this information that’s printed out. I have done stand-up comedy and live theater back in my younger days, and had no problem memorizing 30 minute sets, or multiple pages of lines. But this stuff would not stick. Being able to listen to it WHILE making notes has made all the difference. Thanks for taking the time to create this resource.
Thanks Dustin! I passed it today. I fell asleep to this and restarted when I woke up. Also I wrote it down for memory several times before I went in and had the facilitator to test me. On to the 10s.
Thank you for taking the time to do this video. I had two jobs and had to get this done. This video was a mayor part in me completing the training. I'll start driving tomorrow. Thank you!
Thank you for commenting. I went through training exactly a year ago. It's incredibly hot right now, but keep hydrated and keep pushing through. It's a great paying job with the most amazing health insurance.
@@jasminel.4778 Keep studying it. Keep practicing. Keep listening. Say it after he says it until you can say it WHILE he's saying it. And pray. Help from God is always good. I passed, yesterday. And this video really played a huge part. Omg. I was so happy. You can do it!!!!
@@ShebrewQueen omg thank you ..you are right..I have been praying on it..lol I have the 1st 2 down lol 3 more to gooo..I get stuck...I'm so excited for u...
THE ABSOLUTE BEST MATERIAL FOR THE 5 seeing habits and 10 point commentary. My request is for the 8 yard rules next please and thank you. Thanks in advance
even though I was only a driver for 8 months, this helped me learn, especially on the way to the 2 and a half hour drive to the center where the testing was assigned for me. Great job though, just wasn't for me, good luck to anyone wanting to make it, especially with how rampant sales and online orders are and are going to be.
Smart man. The best piece of advice I can give you is to look left, right, left when approaching an intersection, AND when starting up at an intersection (like when the light turns green). This can save your life. It has saved mine at least 2 times I can think of. People love to run yellow and red lights. So look left, right, then left at all intersections.
On the 12th of October 2023 i go to the Lockport IL one for the driver’s test. I have my class c license. Never passed this last year because i waited till the last minute. Not this time been listening to this and reading it out loud.
This video has been taking so much pressure off of me, thank you. I am moving on to the 10 point commentary now. 2 days till the test for me and im cramming this in my head day and night, while writing it and reciting it out loud with and without the audio and study sheet from class. Ivehad monologues and scripts i was able to get but not this. Its simple but deep because its so applicable to so many situations. Sleep can wait till i pass, until then im getting powe naps with tons of caffeine and i dont wven drink caffeine, lol Thanks so much for this video, very helpful for focus and memory.
Ronnie Smith thanks for the feedback. I made this for us. I am a driver now and went to integrad this past summer. I needed a quicker way to memorize everything. Glad I could help everyone.
Thanks for this, not sure if it'll stick but trying. Took me 4 months to learn the rules for a sentry and they could punish you physically, 2 days isn't enough time for me.
This is a great help. I'm listening, and at the same time Im writing lines like Bart Simpson. One full page for each of the 5. Then asking my gf to quiz me. writing it down several times helps me greatly
I'm interviewing for a package driver position off the street. Do I need to know the 5 and dime verbatim when I show up for this road test? Some stuff I found online about it said so, but the email I got on said the time of the road test. Heck I to confirm that it's actually a road test over the phone because the email described it as a "telephonic interview." I don't really have any information going into this other than when to be there.
make sure you recite them over an over out loud it helps im horrible at remembering things but glancing at my flash cards and just walking back and fourth in my room repeating them i remember all the 5s now. onto 10s!
I plan on driving in mid September. This video has helped out. I also suggest writing each one down word for word. I hope everything goes well for me. I have been working a full time job plus PM loading at UPS.
They finally reached out to me yesterday & told me they had to hire externally because they ran out of internal applicants. Already had my pre courses done, have to do my DOT physical & road test today.. zoom prep call at 11 & still haven’t had them schedule my road test but class starts Monday.. I’m extremely nervous due to such short notice but I’m thankful for you & your videos brother! Appreciate you
Did they test you on the 5s and 10s during your very first road test and time stepping on the property? I can't get a straight answer. So, I'm stressing myself to death. Background check is done, DOT and urine, and road test is tomorrow. What should I expect, what did they have you doing? Is this by chance the Middletown hub? Thanks!
@@Ryan_Carder dude they didn’t ask one word about the 5s & 10s but I was also just a seasonal driver.. all they had me do was drive a Penske truck around to make sure I could drive the box trucks without an issue.. I guess everyone’s situation is different, study up my friend.. best of luck to you
@@ogloko51 They didn't sent you to integrad? I was just hired as a "seasonal full time delivery driver" and am flying out to phoenix. The email they sent stated I had to be able to recite the 5 and 10's
@@TheRaevin yea they did send me to integrad. I was full time seasonal as well. My supervisor never once asked me anything about the 5’s & 10’s during my drive test. Every hub is different tho
Does anyone know with the new classes for 2020 if you have to memorize the ten point commentary full descriptions or just the jist of it and key points ?
Did you have to memorize the 10s verbatim as well? They gave me 2 days with this material before my training week starts tomorrow and that's not nearly enough time... nervous as hell right now and feeling extremely discouraged.
@@23Guitardood I wrote them down each. Probably 100 times. You will get it just put the work in. Think about all who have done it before you. Listen to it in the car all day too say it with them as they speak it.
This video was helpful but I definetely recommend to people memorizing it one at a time. Start with 1 seeing habbit, read it outloud 10 times, then look away get the seeing habbit down, first sentance, say that a few times then try and remember it all then say the entire thing 10+ times. Repeat for the other sections but after the second one is memorized repeat the first down to the second and repeat. I was able to memorize all 5 within an hour. I may have the voice of this video in my head to lmao. You just need to do more than repeat the video honestly.
My training packet said to have the “main points” of the 5 Habits and the 10 Point Commentary memorized. Do I still need to memorize the “How Do You Do It”, “What Does It Do For You”, etc sections?
Literally repeat after me. Literally say everything I say, word for word. Do not add to it, do not delete from it. This is why I made these videos. To keep it simple and dummy proof. Put on your headphones and lay in bed, or play this in the car while driving. Word for word.
I’m in class now and what he says is true. You need to know these 5 word for word. The 10 point commentary you only need to know the actual points. As long as you can sum up what they mean you’re okay.
@@stuntmanbillytv Concerning the 10 points - when you're saying I only need to know the actual points, can I summarize? For example, point 7 states "STALE GREEN LIGHTS." Is that all? Can I then summarize the paragraph associated with Point 7?
@DynaMinds Z damn bro, that's wild! I'm studying for this now and really reeeeally want to pass but they just gave me this information to memorize just 2 days ago and my classes start tomorrow. Having a hell of a time memorizing this stuff and I'm honestly nervous as hell because I need this job and don't know how else I'd make this kind of money. I feel like I'm fucked...
I passed and am on my 2nd week driving, its not too bad especially now since its kinda watered down with the Covid-19 crap. Good luck everyone and study study study.
Don’t feel bad! I’m a police pursuit instructor and on patrol for 24 years! I have been on this for three days and can’t remember anything Cept the main topics!
Hello, do you think I would get an invitation as a 22-year-old? I have held jobs since I was 16 and have a bachelor's in business management. It's been a dream of mine to be a Driver for UPS since I was 4.
Yes. All you have to do is apply. My advice is to google the driver job you want wherever is close to your house. For instance “UPS package car driver Dallas Texas”
@@DustinDeweerd I have, but the actual site has no local openings. I'm going to try submitting an application on one of those third-party sites. I've had the 5's and 10's memorized since I was 17, LOL!
Seriously... R u sure that's what u want to do? Let me tell u what's gonna happen! This bs one week class for UPS is the biggest scam u ever gonna see! U go to class, memorize all that crap and u gonna pass because nobody can fail that because there were several Spanish guys on my class that it didn't speak a word in English and somehow they passed because they need drivers for the peak season ONLY . Then they will hire u as a casual driver, then the 4 months contract is over they gonna send u home and never call u back. Unless the driver from the route u been training for retire or die, they r not hiring u! because the drivers there r union, they can't fire them to hire u. it happened to me. I did my job, never made any mistake, never an accident, never needed any help from anyone and i was driving a 24ft, nope... it didn't matter, never called me! Not to mention that u have to work like a slave to make around 800$ a week! I'm telling u what nobody there will, because they r a cult!
@@christopherhelm1990 bro you gotta prove yourself and 800 a week? Yeah if your working like 30 hours a week lol. I think you need to understand you have to grind and work for this job at peak seniority your making 150k a year. I've been there for 2 years works as a driver helper, then peak driver, and finally waited for class this week for a permanent position. I mean some people just dont wanna work grind and do what it takes. I had a way in and know several people. Still has to prove myself lol.
When you are in the test are they going to ask you the 8 keys to lighting and lowering 5 keys to slips and falls Rules to backing Yard control procedures ????
In reality practicing the memorization of this list doesn't make you any more safer of a driver , considering you have a valid driver's license . Yes good principals but it's common drivers knowledge. But memorizing this shit word for word is a bit far.
@@Jake-tq2vr i worked inside for a week and 2 weeks driving, but they had me in a rental truck not even a ups truck it had a like 4ft high liftgate i had to climb up to get at the packages that end up being scatterd across the box of the truck super pain in the dick
