My first route back in the day had a pkg car with a wooden bulkhead door. I got so many splinters and that dang crooked steering wheel with the “power assist” power steering. Aka non power steering! Haha. My knee still hurts from that stiff clutch pedal. Ahhhh the good ol days
@@theathjr bro I've never heard of that in my life. Now when my bulkhead breaks I'm ganna joke about slapping a wooden door on it to the mechanic lmao.
@@joelvillaramirez5076 Because the pay fucking sucks, and you're overworked, and termination is always just a bad day away. FedEx is the same both Express and Ground.
Hi everyone I'm still going strong as a ups driver. I miss these days. I now have a easy route with 95% residential stops with basically no pick ups. Loving it.
Same here. I put my time in on those ridiculous routes while ducking bullets in crime areas. I’ve earned this easy all resi route that I have now delivering in a wealthy area. It’s still a full day but the stops are easy. Those high stress routes are for the young fellas
Agree. One stop at a time. Problem is most of these kid drivers skip their breaks and lunch and stress to the point of causing accidents and meltdowns. It takes a special person to be a “good” driver. Much respect to all my brothers and sisters out there. Stay safe.....I’ll be there when you get back to the center to fuel and wash your pkg cars. 😜
The store I’ve delivered to usually gives me a bad attitude because I’m amazon. I’m like lol I don’t make these routes. I agree it’s dumb to have an amazon delivery driver drop packages off at ups but take it up to your boss not me.
My first 4 years, I was a coverage driver. I got my own route in '94, a industrial route with a big metro. In '09, I had enough seniority to snag a satellite route. I'm on my 3rd satellite route now and by far my best route ever. 30 years seniority in May ! 😀
@@BlackDesertSnake my package car is parked at a business 33 miles from the UPS hub. Each morning a TP60 is brought up to me. I load up and deliver from there.
@@williampowers7169 I’m 20, I wonder what my life would be like in 5 years at ups if I started now...hmm....Hey what are three things you wish you knew before joining UPS?
I always offer my delivery guys water, cold or room temp. Which they all love here in the desert. None of them ever act like they are expecting it or ask for it. They just appreciate it when I offer it (which is every time I catch them)
first things first, big props to the man bringing in all the revenue to pay my checks and every other driver. To all the people saying this route sucks, all routes have pros and cons. If he didn't have a ton of pickups, he'd be running 200+ stops. If you have lower stops it's usually a country route which sounds good until you have to deal with dirt roads and bad weather. Or you have huge dump stops to deal with. Some routes are in the rougher neighborhoods. Other routes deliver all apartment buildings. You take the good with the bad. The UPS store is totally ridiculous though, they never have a back door and you always have to cart everything out front. GREAT JOB brother!
Yeah my UPS Store had no back door as well and the customers were always an obstacle when handcarting 20-30 loads out front while parked in a no parking zone as everyone looks at you funny.
@@toyoscio ahhhhhh yes the highrise apartment buildings and loading a mall kart and taking a freight elevator up if the building has a freight elevator. Be sure to put that floor number in your diad so you get more time for the stops 😂😎
Man I haven’t even passed my 30 day packet but I did 165 stops on Thursday night (took me 11 hours) and I was super proud. Can’t even imagine doing 200+ without having done that route at least 20 times. I’m ready and excited for the challenge, though!
I worked as a Package Handler for fed ex and I loaded for a Mall Route. Always felt for the guy who had to run that stuff! Ain't easy but it's honored work man. Got an interview for UPS tomorrow. Gonna be driving for em hopefully!
I’m currently a supervisor at ups, I’m only 20 so I can’t drive yet but a little piece of advice try to work in the metros which is loading the package car, it’ll help you when you start driving.
You have a mall route with close out AND residential? God bless you brother. This job is not easy and takes a toll on you mentally, physically and often times home life. I feel for ya and appreciate the hard work.
You have to try and organize it the best you can, so you aren't spending 10-15 mins looking for a package at each stop lol you don't have time for that unless you wanna be out all damn night.
Hey brother this video took me back to my driving days. I had a route that was very similar. I had to balance heavy pickup volume with still having alot of resi left afterwards and it also involved that dreaded 6:00 pm UPS Store pickup. Much Respect. Thanks for sharing this and showing people how hectic and overwhelming this job really is. I’m Glad to be carwashing now after 28 years ! Safe Travels Brother.
Well yea but at least UPS drivers are compensated for their work and headache of the job. With Amazon I get 360 packages 📦 daily for $16 an hour ☹️ I know ups gets more packages than us but still if for the salary that they get I’d be happy to deliver 1000 packages
It’s cool seeing things from the UPS side of things. I worked for US Foods as a delivery driver and was always running into UPS and FedEx in the alleyways and other stops. Good hard work!
Dude I thought my route with Amazon 300 packages and 200 stops was tough...after watching this I will never complain about my routes..this looks hella overwhelming
I feel for the drivers, all respect to you guys. And I load the trucks for UPS drivers. Their feelings matter the most to me because I want to make their job a lot easier and ready to go when they arrive to their trucks. I care too much and I get paid 14.50, soon to get a raise twice I think according to our teamsters handbook. I love my truck drivers 😂
I was a UPS driver for over 20 years. It sucked but I did it to support my family. The worst part was the 5 o'clock phone call home saying that it was going to be another 8pm night.
OMG, that is ridiculous! How the heck are you able to tell what you need to deliver, and what your taking back to the warehouse with all that mess in the back of your truck?! Props to you for keeping your cool. I'm already getting stressed out looking at all that mess! I cant imagine what the holidays must be like.
You keep them separated, kinda. But the label will tell you. Delivery labels will for your area and can be recognized by the big zip code. Pick ups or out going, are usually out of state and once again the big zip code will obviously not be for the area you are delivering to.
this is life changing. i really thought delivery drivers only went to work to deliver ONLY my parcel and then they went home enjoying the rest of the day!!! this is crazy!!!
Yeh people that dont work for ups have no idea the amount of bullshit that us drivers put up with on the regular lol its only right we make good money for all the bs/stress you have to deal with everyday.
That's how most people seem to think of us lmao. "please only deliver between 5 and 6pm" Ha! You have to pay extra for that service, otherwise, you're getting your package whenever I happen to get there
Did package for 17 years. Our management went from garbage to straight shitty. And Orion just completely fucked our center. When the chance for feeders came, our ran out the door. I used to have a route like this with 20 sets of apartments. 14 hours days everyday. I loved the route, but management at my hub didn't and still doesn't use common sense. My heart and back goes out to you brother!! Brotherhood my friend. One stop at a time
NGL, I had to pause and take a Xanax before you even got halfway. A friend of mine works UPS for the holidays and I have lots of respect!! I couldn't handle working on the trucks here in Louisiana in the summers without a/c!! Thanks for the hard work!! 🥰
OMG... I''m new... my first working outside office work for decades...and wanted to do a physical work and on my own... finished up 5 day training (integrad/road test/diad) last week... now real training 3 days this week with supervisor and I believe on my own? I'm glad I just stumbled your channel.... this is a nightmare already!
I'm just a package handler and I feel bad when I gotta load 300 to 350 package because alot of times they're mostly big packages and the truck is just packed with no room
Lol I’ve loaded 350 packages in a regular Ford van before. I give amazon a lot of shit but we do load our vans much more efficiently. Everyone is in order unlike ups.
I’ve been on routes with over 200 stops it’s trash af lol everything falls off the shelf when you get to your first stop and you have to re organize the whole truck
Great video, Don't ever expect help! One of my routes is similiar to this, where i work a smaller mall by myself (Champs/Footlocker being the heaviest stores) but damn that Macy's pick up blows! 660 from a ups store, lmao geez. Your truck @8:52 lmao This is content
i love working for ups, its a lot of work, but its fun and its a great company. i live in Canada though so its interesting comparing my normal days with American drivers. i even have a similar run too, delivering and picking up from a mall and surrounding areas
Damn you guys really work a lot. I work for USPS and I know how it feels to have your truck full, for people who are watching this video and never had don't this type of job, you would probably cry if they gave you a truck full like that and tell you to deliver it, but for the people who work for any type of delivery company, we get use to it and becomes kinda like a normal day at the office. But definitely ups and usps i think are the hardest, idk about ups but at least at usps nobody loads the truck for you, they just give you all your packages plus the mail and is your responsibility to load it, I know at least at FedEx they load it for you.
UPS is honestly a love hate relationship. I've only worked seasonal as a jumper for them 3 times and I learned that some small boxes are a lot heavier than the big boxes and always lift with your legs. Also I've never worked with a UPS driver I didn't like. My first year I met Dave who is a senior driver so he kept me the whole time because I didn't slow him down. That's the thing never have your driver wait on you. The only driver that pushed me was the guy with a knee brace who sprinted from the truck to the house back from the house to the truck. I weigh over 250 bro that's not a workout that's torture lmao
I use to have mall route 2 years ago. I can say that most of mall employees are lazy. Im glad I left this job in the dust, now Im a commercial truck driver ^_^
Wow! That’s intense. I carried mail for 2yrs and I thought that was bad to pick up packages from stores in a little mail truck but we did not have a good system for all our packages. We used to have to memorize all the addresses and remember the addresses of all the packages and deliver them along with the mail. I hated that job and I wouldn’t want to be a ups or FedEx man! Lol.
@@DonJulio510 I swear they purposely pick the most inconvenient locations for FedEx Office stores. I've picked up from a bunch of them and none of them were designed with the drivers picking up/dropping off in mind at all.
I work fedex express. I do a pickup route and shuttle at night equals full time hours. Pickup route has 25-30 stops depending on day not much bulk, mostly packs and envelopes, shuttle is stuff from an airport i take to another airport, usually 40-80 packages depends on night, sometimes can be heavy things, load it up drive hour unload drive back, im done. Pretty chill honestly, mostly driving so cant complain. Bad weather is our #1 enemy!
Thank you, sir!! Ive been looking for helpful videos, because I want to become a UPS driver, and this video is most helpful!!! After searching, im EXTREMELY THANKFUL, to have found your vid!!!! 👍 New subscriber here!!! 😁🤗☺️👏👏👏 WELL DONE,SIR!!!!
I only lasted two months driving for UPS. Good job but very challenging. I normally like challenges but when you don't have support from the company and they treat you like shit and only make the job harder, it just ruins it for everyone
Man, I only lasted a few weeks working as a one man truck unloader. As you mentioned, the work environment made the job even tougher. Honestly, could not justify earning 13.50 hourly to break my back. Of course, the lifers told me, "you get paid to workout!"
I did that for 2 1/2 years before going into driving. I was there for just shy of three years. Still haven't found the right job since leaving 18 months ago. Haven't worked at any place longer than six months since
@@betsthegod I see a lot of comments in this video telling that UPS starts you out at $30+ an hour. And I dont believe it for one second. I've been jobless since March because of covid and I applied to almost everything. Amazon UPS FedEx USPS. And literally ALL OF THEM say they start the pay at $13-$15. I seriously want to know where these people are finding UPS jobs that start you at $30+. Lol
@@ki11aqueen5 Starting as a driver is rare. Almost everyone starts loading or unloading at the $13 to $15 range and moves up. I retired 7 years ago at the $33 range. I think it's now around $38. Anything over 8 hours in one day is time and a half overtime, $57 an hour. Working over 50 hours a week was normal.
Hell yeah they do. They didn't pay me for 3 weeks working right after Christmas and I had to file a grievance so I could get paid. After I filed a grievance I came in late one day and they wrote me up. I work as a unloader and we unload and insane amount of money's worth every night and they can't find it in there deep pockets to give me my change!
I loaded those package cars and other jobs with UPS for 15 years. Now retired. Keep up the good work. I also was a VP for an Electronics Mfr. and everyone at the other companies in the building met the UPS at the shipping platform to help him out.
Well put together video but.....I had a P10 that you couldn't see through let alone walk into, both at the beginning and the end of the day. Not even enough room for the handcart and multiple times packages stacked on the steps going back to the center. It was a mall route with 160 stops, 500 packages and about 70 stop pickup with 900 packages, many broken springs on the truck. Crawling down the top shelf to reach the next stop like a tunnel was normal. I had fun but eventually got tired of it after 4 decades. Carbon paper records was nicer than the DIAD, same with plywood shelves. Lol
Can you make a list of best driving cigars? Ones that don't need much relights or touchups when you're on the interstate on a long car trip or have a delivery job that has you driving for hours.
I started dating a ups driver and I have so much more patience ms and respect for them I even be defending them lol it’s hard labor and I can’t stand the customer that have dogs and don’t put them on a leash but want their package delivered to their door it’s very rude and not safe to the drivers they deserve respect also they have no air conditioners or heat in their trucks I still don’t know how that is even legal or humane
No! One of the great things about being UPS driver is NOT having to work with a coworker all day. Besides, if it made things faster, management would just assign more stops so the day would be just as long.
@@gringa23 How long have you been w/UPS? I started October 26, 2020. I’m still waiting for my behind the wheel training. I’ve been told that UPS will pay for your CDL training if you want to be a feeder driver.
UPS operates like a busted broken company that's for sure. Amazon at least has trucks that work, navigation that works and most likely a lot more efficient in how they deal with packages. At UPS, nothing makes sense, the there is so much excess in how things are done, never enough pre-loaders to do a job because they all quit because there is a supervisor to every pre-loader telling them how to do something different. Then there is the 22.4s pretty much doing all the grunt work getting those box trucks and basically not given the tools to do their jobs. That's UPS in a nutshell. Operates poorly. That's why it's not going to take much for Amazon to do what UPS is doing in years to come. "Stay safe guys are preached in the PCM's" yet they give you these box trucks. They tell you not to back, yet you have too just to get done. It's a terrible place to work for. I could see in the future UPS being the second rate company and falling behind once Amazon gains traction on how to handle those eregs.
Ohh this is nothing you should see the warehouses 😆😆 especially during Christmas season it looks like a bomb went off were I work people be stepping on shit throwing boxes all to be done by a certain time its ridiculous but once it's over you can look back at it and kinda see the hilarity in it😆 my first week working I said the same thing I was like damn no wonder mad shit shows up broken im not even mad because now I know how they feel😆😆
From what I’ve heard from drivers, they mainly look at the actual addresses if they’re well and familiar with their route. There are HIN numbers on the boxes that list the truck position and then the shelf location. That can help both the loader and the driver, but whenever I give a driver that HIN number, they always ask a street name back XD
Hey JR this can't possibly be all in one day. This looks like 2 or 3 days of work. By the end of the video you still had 80 stops to go. WTF ! Poor Jose. He is not answering any of the questions. He must have died from all that overworking. RIP Jose. You were a great UPS employee. My condolences to his family.
Right now I've been doing package handler in air hub for about 3 weeks. It's tough work loading the containers and truck trailers. Hoping to move up to possibly driver. I was told about a position where you back up the truck trailers into the warehouse, no idea what position that ones called though.
Do you mean parking the trucks (and some trailers) in the beginning of the day before preload, backing the trailers throughout the day for unload, or both? Both those positions are hourly and and if it’s the former, then that just gets you extra hours. If you want to build up to being a driver, I hope you’re ready to be there for a good couple of years, because there is a long competitive list for those spots (depending on your facility of course). Sometimes it’s easier to start out fresh out the gate as a driver. Takes a bit longer to get the position if you’re working your way up.
I’m a FedEx Driver, I worked at Amazon; low pay but wayyyyy more organized than FedEx and ups. You don’t move as fast at UPS or FedEx you really have to take your time or you’ll injure yourself compared to Amazon moving at lighting speed
@@leavemealonejohnson5985 I agree lol. I have the highest package count at my dsp daily but at least in not constantly lugging around huge packages. Would be nice to get an inflation raise by now though ..
@@noahblair9514 yup, get off as much as you can before you have to do your pickups, reorganize everything as far forward in the truck as possible to make room for the pickups at the back of the truck. Doesn't always work out like that, but that's the optimal way. The thing making this guy's route a major pain in the ass is that he has big pickups without loading docks. Having to haul all of those packages so far to his truck sucks.
