A few other things you should have in your pack, white athletic tape, Immodium, and lastly a shaker bottle and some protein powder in case you just have "one of those days" where lunch is just not going to happen. I lived in the field for weeks on end, so I'm no stranger to long hours and garbage chow, I just traded one uniform for another.
@@jaimeperez6519 my understanding is that you need to work up to it depending on if you want to work the delivery trucks or the tractors although ups freight was just sold
It cracks me up in the comment section. Just like at my center. Everyone always chiming in saying how much more work they have than the other guy and bitching about this and that. Stop worrying about the other guy and get it done. Then bid a better route/job when you can. 25 year driver now Carwasher until retirement. P.S. THROW AWAY YOUR DAMN TRASH at the end of the day. Safe Travels Brothers.
Don't mention the days we couldn't wear shorts or how the package cars are cushy now with heat, lights and power steering. I think they might even have automatics..... Almost forgot the plywood shelves with splinters and Ford P400's where you couldn't get out of the seat because of the doghouse. Great days, more freedom.
Preparation is key! I'm 23 yr vet I have a back up for the back up because shit happens and you may need to help your neighbor. An extra uniform kept in a sealed bag to keep fresh is a good thing too.
@UPS Chris I started my driver training this week. First day was a lot to take in but I know I can learn the methods and the repetition pretty fast if I can just keep doing it. However I keep getting told to stay home nobody can train you. My first schedule day was Monday. I was there for 2 hours only to find out the sup went to another HUB and I wasn't starting. I came in the next day Wednesday at 12pm to go with a sup on a route to train. Then Thursday told to stay home sup is sick. Is this normal in your 30 days ? The trainer seem to imply I did ok, and he doesn't typically let people drive on the first day just do the diad work which I did both. I struggled to know my streets and again the thinking ahead is something i know I can learn if I just keep doing it. It's the same when I was in pre-load. I was throw into the fire but learned quick by always doing it and ended up being one of the many pre-loaders in the Hub. It's discouraging wanting to work but being told to stay home.
In Yonkers NY site there is Hipaa and OSCHA violations, regulation and laws are not applied at this location. My friend had to leave his night shift job after his criminal record had been exposed by his boss to his coworkers. Shame on you UPS. He just needed a job!!
If I had your route I wouldn't have left the position after 24years...I'm good now being a shifter..miss my good customers and that's it....looks like your a doomsday prepper.lol
Delivery drivers have been hijacked in south side of Chicago. Though, I live in a much safer suburb around Schaumburg. People only go down there for drugs, so I've heard.
The company provides you with a plastic sign that says no guns allowed, wave that around. And you have that magic yellow Harry Potter sweating your butt off plastic bag vest to wear, if it can prevent a semi from hitting you surely it can stop anything else.
You are VERY organized, should be a prerequisite for a driver, much less stressful if you prepare....I've watched too many UPS workers throwing packages from 15 feet away, onto a concrete porch, on RU-vid. Have you watched those videos? Thanks for your video! 😊
I actually carry some stuff for chaffing that also smells good. So when I have to take a dump back there I spread that on the floor when I get done. I figure that's the least I can do. LOL!
I just started as a driver. Today is my 4th day on my own and we have as much packages as peak season rn. My route usually has 120-190 stops but I have yet to actually finish all my stops before reaching my 14 hour mark. Any tips to help me deliver faster. I want to be able to finish all my stops at the very least in 13 hours
The speed will come on time, just be safe and work on the small things like, organization, remembering your next stop, where it is on the shelf, how many packages. Work on being smooth on putting on the seatbelt, starting the vehicle, checking those mirrors. You got this!!!
Working UPS you make good money but you have no LIFE... as he stated .. never have time for yourself... I work at FedEx grounds and I can relate but I have less packages and I only work Home Delivery
I usually wear adult diapers so I dont have to stop and use the bathroom. I usually carry 5 or 6 with me in a day and just dispose of them in a trash can close by
volcano hi lol Ik that I was a UPS driver helper fir 2018 peak season trust me Ik 💯🤲😎 but adult diapers tho o and I see drivers at fast food restaurants all the time in my area just saying 🤷♂️
@volcano hi I worked several different routes in Denver metro. I always used my helper to the full extent possible. If I needed to use the restroom, I'd make a trip to a convenience store to use it or find an office building. That simple.
Great video! I just hope that AI won't take your job. Remember, those people in the upper management only care about profits and their XMas bonus. So sad 😮
I'd take 200 stops a day.. 200 stops, 250-275 peices bout 50-60 miles a day. Would sure as hell beat 75-90 stops at 125+ miles a day. That's too much driving and would certainly take up the entire day.
I had 7 miles, about 250 stops with metro and 1,400 pieces, no smalls but bulky junk, in a P10. Constantly asked for a horse trailer to load my dumps and on route bulk pickups in but was denied
@@chris707man I recieved received about an hour of diad training in class and still have yet to navigate it properly. I sure hope they don't toss me on a route without knowing what to do. Yesterday I went with a supervisor from another hub and ran packages for him. I definitely have the hustle, but I need more technical support.
Dude man. Do not EVER let the company know about your personal life. Especially martial arts. I knew a guy that ran in marathons. Well he got hurt. And the company looked up his Facebook account, and saw he was a runner. They said he hurt his ankle by running in races.
My day is always bad because the truck is loaded by someone with a blindfold. The worse part is I get blamed by management because I have to back track to stops because I can’t find the package.
Just left express after 3 years on Friday in hopes to start a life long career at UPS. Snagged a seasonal driver spot! Passed my drivers test and headed to courier school for the week next week. Hoping to get hired on full time after seasonal as I’ve been told I’m an above average worker. Let’s go!
@@caseyschmidt6532I got laid off on September 15th and brought back for Christmas season on November 6th! Thought I was going to get laid off again on January 15th but instead they’re allowed to hire one person from outside and I got the full time spot. My 1 year anniversary and raise is coming up on November 6th because they back dated my hire date from the day I started up seasonal again! Definitely here until retirement. Not easy but the pay and benefits are unmatched.
In 25 years of driving, I have never needed fingernail clippers, floss or electrical tape ever!! Water, TP, proper gear for weather are definitely a must! I think maybe more senior drivers should be doing videos like these, but then again you junior drivers have it so good....lower steps in cars, power steering, automatic transmission, keyless entry....don't even get me started!
@@chris707man Awesome....keep it going Chris,at least you are trying to pass down some useful knowledge! The senior guys before me only told me to slow down and take my breaks....thanks guys big help!
@@michaelj.9886 take their advice! Dont sort your load off the clock, dont run and take your lunch and breaks! :) Its the only way to eventually get less work put on you.
There is no such thing as less work my friend. Slowing down to get less work means working longer days. Sure you make more money, but you have less personal time for yourself, and your family....not worth it!! My work is done by early afternoon everyday, and I end up with longer paid lunches!
SOME DAYS YOU DO NOT EVEN HAVE ROOM FOR A SMALL LUNCHBOX , REALLY A BACKPACK . MADE IT 27 YEARS DRIVING (PACKAGE CAR) WITHOUT A BACKPACK GOOD LUCK KID . ALSO THEY DO NOT REWARD YOU FOR BEING A HERO THERE SO STOP RUNNING
UPS TOO MUCH SERVICE ....)))) I bought in USA an item for $150 can. and have to pay $80 service and custom fees. Very expensive given the price of the item. From now on, I won't use UPS.
I am going to work soon as a driver helper. I am concern about the use of the DIAD. I have not work for UPS before. Does the driver helper use another DIAD?
Yes, driver helper does use the board, you should be going out with your own board. Driver should show you how to use it, I have a couple videos that show you certain things in the board.
Customers are always helpful and willing to let you use their restrooms, I prefer the experience of urinating in nature 😄😄 a simple turnout on a left hand turn works for me.
I worked as a package driver for a little over a year and then went feeder school and worked in feeders for 10 years then I became a feeder dispatcher, trainer, and on-road supervisor, until I retired in 1993 in South Florida managers, were just a bunch of ass holes and feeder drivers were ass holes as well and were just plain lazy by the time I left UPS I hated UPS and everyone that worked their!!! What a stressful place to work everyone is hateful and it makes you hateful.
@@chris707man I only have 2 pairs. My center just started receiving all our orders, and we were only aloud to order 2 bottoms. I chose 2 shorts. Fortunately the new shorts actually have a button, instead of that little clip, which breaks all the time (My belly lol) The new shirts are nice, got 2 golf ones, and i normally take an Xl, but they were way to big. Large fits perfect, have to order a size down for shirts, jackets ect. Kinda sux, they got rid of the double pockets on the new shirt jacks. I don't mind 1 pocket on the golf shirts, but the shirt jacks, common UPS? Twin Hill, had slightly better build quality imo, but the styling definitely better with Wear guard. Happy Founders day 113 years :-)
mike sharkey wax your slide, keep your rollers close to your wall so you don’t have to walk very far, step or pivot to minimize walking much just scan and load
Load packages on the right shelf, Load packages in the right truck, Don't put over 60lbs on the top shelf, if you have an add- cut be smart and remove all of it and use the empty space by sliding packages forward ex the 1k are cut slide the 5k to the front, Don't blow out the 8k shelf. Put bulk stops together not randomly on a shelf and blow out the shelf. Lets work together UPSERS. :)
You have a clear channel from the bulkhead partition door to the back door? That's not right the van should have no air gaps from all the parcels in every little space.
