Batman Arkham Origins has officially turned 6 years old! Happy Birthday Arkham Origins! This game is many people's least favorite in the franchise, but there's a lot that it did very well! We wanted to sit down and take a look at 5 things WB Games Montreal got right in this Batman Arkham game. These things slightly differentiate the game from Batman Arkham Asylum, Batman Arkham City and Batman Arkham Knight, while also fitting in with Rocksteady's interpretation of the character. #WBGamesMontreal #BatmanArkham #BatmanArkhamOrigins

My favourite things about origins 1. How they portrayed bane. They got him perfect. He was big and brawny but also smart and menacing. 2. The Christmas setting. It felt so cool and went really well. It's hard to explain why but It linked so well especially that Carol of the bells joker theme, perfection. 3. I know he's not Mark, but Troy Baker as the joker. Man what a performance, if Mark doesn't want to do the role again they have to her Troy back. 4. The boss battles, especially that deathstroke, copperhead and bane one. 5. I loved the various modes there was to the main story, new game plus, I am the Knight etc. I'm a guy who loves challenges so having to complete the game without dying or failing any missions was very stressful but fun to do.
@DegenerateJay
@DegenerateJay 4 года назад
I agree with all of these things. I love challenge, but because of my arthritis it's a little hard for me to actually play a game for like 7 hours straight which was my only issue with I am the Knight (and I'd argue not an issue that applies to other people.) I love the setting of Christmas time and the music. I was thinking about it, and this game has some pretty Nolan-y vibes coming off of its music. While also mixing that with Christmas. So it's kind of like you're getting the brutality of the Nolan movies mixed with Arkham and the Christmas setting. I also thought that their portrayal of Bane was way better than it was in any other game in this series.

@SabatSch95

Agreed on all points... though I have to say, "I am the Knight" was actually ridiculously easy if you realize you can just reload the checkpoint each time you think you're going to die. I succeeded on my first try just using that trick. Maybe you're taking the fun out of it a bit, but it's not like these games are super challenging anyway.

True. And yeah maybe you don't need RCS to play a younger Batman, but wow has Conroy's voice changed over time. If you watch episode one of Batman the Animated Series he sounds entirely different than he did in Justice League or any of the Arkham games. People's voices change and even if they didn't it's ok to get something new. New doesn't necessarily mean bad unless it'sjust objectively bad.

My favorite things about Arkham Origins 5. The Christmas setting. Now while it is one of the many games out there that revolves around Christmas this game really nails it. There are games like Spiderman Miles Morales that are set around it, but I don't count them as a Christmas games because they don't happen at Christmas they just revolve around it. This game gets it right. It feels like Christmas looks like Christmas and has good vibes going off. 4. The music. This game has one of my favorite soundtracks ever. It has music that can be played around Christmas time but also all year around. 3. The Batcave is one of the coolest things about this game. It has a lot of cool stuff with the computer that Alfred uses and a Arkham Asylum batmobile easter egg (I don't really count Arkham Origins as canon tho). It also has a bit of a Nolan influence with the tunnel that has the elevator by it. Also the training simulator is very cool and the suit compartment is awesome. It just seems to come out of the ground and looks so cool. 2. The boss battles. This game does have some very epic boss battles. Now I do hear that the best boss battle in the game is the Deathstroke boss battle i disagree. Mainly because there is a boss battle I like more. It is the Bane boss battles. I like the ones where you battle Bane himself but I really like the Bane stealth mission. You have to use grates and vents and multiple other ways to take down Bane all in a 15 minuet timer. It is one of the most creepy for me because if you get caught you are thrown around like there is no tomorrow. 1. The voice acting. While it is not Kevin Conroy as Batman or Mark Hamill as the Joker both Roger Craig Smith and Troy Baker did a good job. They set the mood and while Roger's Batman voice is not as awesome as Adam West's jk. I meant to say Kevin's, Rodger still did a very good job. I also appreciate the madness of the Joker that Troy Baker brought in for his joker. That was all 5 of mine lol sorry this list was so long but i enjoyed watching the video and telling what my favorite things about Arkham Origins is :). Have a good day!

I adore Origins. Very underrated and misunderstood game. My top fives (in no order): 1) Batcave and Alfred 2) I really liked the CSI investigations 3) Boss fights are some of the best - Deathstroke of course but also Firefly, Copperhead, Bane in the hotel / roof felt epic, and finally the battle with Bane in the prison. I even liked the Electrocutioner fight for the lols 4) The design of the new areas was great - Lacey Towers, the hotel... it all felt like real places. Resultantly I also liked the redesigned map! It felt more real than City or Knight for me... 5) The Joker - like everybody else I was 'sigh, Joker AGAIN' but actually it was the best ways you could present him here. His scenes with Harley are great but little things like his being saved by Bruce, then trying to kill himself just to get a rise... it's amazing. I've got a lot more mind but that's the five I love most.

@theamunra4424
@theamunra4424 3 года назад
The thing is that when Arkham Asylum was released, it was meant to be a game inside DC continuity where Batman is already familiar with all the villains and pretty much all main comics events occurred prior to the game. It was with Arkham City when Arkhamverse became its own continuity. Example, we get a clear character profile of Hugo Strange in Arkham Asylum but then we get to know in Arkham City that Batman has never actually encountered dr. Strange in this continuity yet and Arkham City ends up being his only confrontation with him as he dies at the end of the story. Same with Hush... we get a character profile for him in AA but in Arkham City, he meets dr. Thomas J. Elliot for first time and instead of becoming the bandaged villain Hush, he becomes Bruce Wayne's doppelganger. And there are small bits like Two-Face's bio saying in AA he was scarred by Sal Maroni (like in comics) but in Arkham City, it's revealed in interview tapes he was scarred by Falcone's men. Clayface is also much bigger in AC than in his AA bio and so on. So I think when Arkhamverse became its own continuity and not part of DC continuity, differences started to appear. I think Harley's tapes with Joker could have technically still happened after Quincy Sharp reopened Arkham Asylum at the end of Arkham Origins, only not as first meeting. Something that didn't really make sense to me is why Dr. Quinzel already sounds so much like Harley Quinn during those tapes if it's her first time meeting Joker.

My top 5 1. The portrayal of bane, he was smart, scary and bad ass. That scene when he rips Batman out of the elevator ceiling was the smartest shit. 2. Best boss fights in the entire game, each one was so unique. 3. Cutscenes and writing in general. So many scenes came off as genius or powerful. The scene with the heart monitor on babe was really clever, the serene where Bruce and Alfred have an argument over what Batman does each night. 4. Roger Craig Smith. He was amazing as a young Batman, smart yet not as wise and much more emotional. 5. The story. In my opinion the story was almost if nort just as good as city. The plot twist with joker was great, the ending was amazing and the interactions with each boss was well paced and interesting.

Since I first played it back in 2013, Batman: Arkham Origins has been my personal favorite Batman game. I could go into details on various things I loved about it, from the boss fights, to Bane, to how thoroughly it looked at Batman and the Joker as characters (arguably more so than the other Arkham games), to the new voice actors who absolutely nail who they're emulating while sounding unique, and I guess I just did, but those aren't the main reason. The main reason is that I felt more like Batman in this game than either Asylum or City. The random crimes and murder side quests helped give this game a feeling that this was a typical night for Batman, which neither Asylum or City managed due to the requirements of their stories. There's also the Batcave, and not just because you can actually go to it. Your alternate skins and the challenge maps are accessible from here, which helps make the game feel so much more seamless. It's so satisfying to be in the midst of free roaming, want to use another costume, and go to the Batcave to do so instead of the main menu. What others may call Origins being a glorified expansion pack, I call Origins giving me the most typical night for Batman of the Arkham games, and it will always have that going for it in my opinion.

Id like a batcave situation, where it actually has like 3 months in around 30 minutes, of you playing as Bruce after breaking a leg or arm or something. Nightwing, Batwoman, or a Robin are on patrol and Bruce has to do things in the batcave to like help them out, like watching cameras, doing research, and just normal Alfred stuff while he heals. Early in the game, setting up the rest.

BIFF ZOCK THOONT - Batman himself felt less powerful in combat and that really sold the idea that he ain't so experienced - Batman himself was much more volatile, angry and ruthless - Investigations really told about the detective work Batman does and that must be his bread and butter.

invisible predator mode was actually really good, the tension and moment-to-moment gameplay was unreal from the 3-way fight when you know the heroes are watching you and could drop in any sec while you're fighting the other gang. being able to fight to become the villain was dope too. I wish more people played it, they coulda done more with it like more maps with different villains w new abilities like croc, penguin, and deathstroke but he has some kinda gun instead of how he was in the challenge maps. hope they do some sort of version in the next one and put more work into it. you could come back from a big L if you get the villain, batman and robin had to strategically hit both teams to keep them from beating each other. if anyones trynna squad up reply w your gamertag bc it was hard to find a game when this came out sucks that it was slept on

I got this game on the Wii U (only console I had at the time) as my first Arkham game. It comes with that nostalgia factor most Arkham players get with Asylum, where it was your first and you played it as a kid. I played it at 16, 3 years after release and loved it. Now, I have all 4 games and a PS4 so ya, fully sold on the franchise

I love how they portrayed Batman and Jokers first meeting and the way it lead to Joker and Harley Quinn's first meeting. When Joker is explaining to Harley how you can tell that when you meet someone that your life is changed forever, and Harley thinks he is referring to her when in fact Joker is talking about Batman. Joker then realizes that he has her in the palm of his hand, and this is the start of their abusive, one-way relationship.

To me, this game is EASILY the most comic accurate in terms of the actual storylines. You can see trhey ripped out MANY elements straight out of Killing Joke and Year One with Batmans relationships with Joker and Gordon. I even loved how they paid alot of homage to Knightfall with the buildup of Banes character.

The deathstroke fight in Origins is how the fight with Jason in Knight because it could have really hammered in how in tuned that the Knight was with Batman. I feel like the main reasons they were steps ahead of Batman in Knight was mostly due to timing and less of the Knight knowing much about Batman.

I personally love Arkham Origins and the thing I love the most about it is the characterization and especially dynamics between characters. Especially Batman, Alfred, Gordon, Joker and Bane. It feels to me that the characters have the most personality in this game and compared to Asylum and City (Haven't played Knight yet) I really felt the emotional stakes getting higher here in Origins as the game progressed. Of course, another thing I truly loved about Origins are the boss fights. I enjoyed boss fights in Arkham City and the Poison Ivy fight in Asylum but what also made Origins boss fights stand out for me apart from gameplay is that there's a build-up to majority of these fights and it made them even more intense for me. For example, we have entire level dedicated to Firefly and we go from disabling bombs to saving hostages to fighting his goons till we eventually reach the final fight with him which is truly intense in my opinion. We venture through Steel Mill while we know we're being stalked and when we come face-to-face with Copperhead, we then go through a series of hallucinations as we struggle to reach the surface before we get to fight her. When we climb the Royal Hotel in order to get the Joker, we know Bane is waiting for us up there and that we'll likely have to fight him when we reach the top and such. On other hand, as much as I enjoyed fighting Solomon Grundy and Clayface in AC, those two characters appeared out of nowhere in order to provide "final boss fights" for Penguin and the Joker. These small details are what made me love AO boss fights even more. A small detail that I also like is that we see face expressions from Batman in this game, especially anger. That's probably the downside of AA and AC for me where Batman's face expression remains the same for most of the time even when he gets angry. And the last thing I would point out is the soundtrack. I absolutely love Christopher Drake's soundtrack in this game.

Pros: - Batman Arkham Origins is very cinematic driven making it very interesting - Crime Scene Sequences - Addition to new and interesting villains - Portrayal of Bane before TITAN - Boss Battles - Soundtrack - Finally a real battle with the real Joker - Voice Acting - Batman and Gordon relationship - Enigma’s unhealthy obsession of the Batman’s identity (In the secret room when you collect all data packs, you’ll find a clip board of news articles about the Batman. Goes to show how he’ll become more obsessed over time) - Inclusion of the Batwing - Cold Cold Heart DLC (Initiation, Skin Packs) Cons: - The Dark Knight Challenges - In-game crashes and bugs - Enigma’s side mission - Shiva - The new gadgetry (Concussion Grenade, Glue Grenade (liked the freeze grenade more), Electric Shock Gloves) - Overuse of Joker - Lack of textural detail (if you zoom in on any object, it looks lazily meshed with no texture whatsoever)

This is one of my favorite games ever! I'll never forget that I actually sold some PS3 games, that were expensive in my conutry, to get Origins on its release weekend. I lost count of how many times I beat back then, but I remember every smile, cheer and fear I felt in that game. I know it's not a masterpiece in gaming, but it was in my life. I had to sell it with my PS3 in a difficult time in my life and I got pissed it wasn't on Return to Arkham years ago (I bought a PS4 only in 2020), but I will someday also buy a PC literally only to buy this game on steam and play it again.

I’m going to say something really controversial..... I think this version of Batman is better than the Kevin version. This one has actual emotion instead of him being a blank calm guy. In this version he is actually pissed at the criminals and actually has emotions at times. Also, his suit in the freeze dlc is just badass.

1. Incredible original levels (GCPD, Gotham Plaza Hotel, Blackgate prison, the Gotham bridge) alot of ppl say it's too similar to the others which is why ign gave it a 6/10 and it's annoys me they overlook these fresh new additions 2. The story - brilliant origin, I'd almost go so far to argue its better than Arkham city (I like both equally) but this is so underrated the cutscenes are spectacular 3. Boss battles - bane, deathstroke and frickin Firefly those fights were amazing 4. Multiplayer - I rolled my eyes when they announced it but it was honestly one of the most fun experiences I've ever had gaming online, so well made its a shame it didn't last 5. DLC great skins, Bruce Wayne origin was fantastic and teh Cold Cold Heart dlc is hands down my favourite batman dlc and Mr freeze story of all time

My most favourite part here that origins did right that I think lacked in Asylum, City and Knight missed: The detective part. You guys mentioned it ofcourse, but I mean, we're talking about the worlds greatest detective here, and detective mode is rarely ever needed unless you want to prove you did a no hit run. In origins, you can actually rely on batmans detective skills without ruining the plot.

Pretty sure Electrocutioner was created specifically for this game as a joke! (And as a source for one of Batman's tools later, sadly abandoned for no clear reason except continuity.) His one boss fight is played entirely for laughs; and he's treated as totally disposable by the Joker. "So, do you have anything else to add, Mr.... Cutioner? I didn't think so..."

Roger Craig Smith and Troy Baker portrayed these characters really well, honestly. If Hamill or Conroy ever step down from the role in future games they should definitely bring in these two. People would argue that it's not Hamill and therefore it sucks, but I honestly think Troy Baker would be my favourite Joker if not for Hamill, and Smith as a younger Bruce Wayne was just amazing, especially the fact that he was more aggressive with criminals compared to the other Arkham games, and Smith portrayed that really well. In terms of The Joker, this isn't even the first time Troy Baker has played him, because he's done Joker voices in Batman cartoons and animated movies, and he doesn't do a bad job at all. The casting all around for this game was just something else. Joker, Bane, Firefly... the list goes on, but overall I think the casting and the characters in general are my favorite thing about this game. It just feels more correct compared to other Arkham games, especially for Bane, and especially considering the fact that these are younger/past versions of each character, and it's just done really well in general. A lot of the designs are better too in my opinion; we can all agree that Bane's design is an improvement, but when you look at someone like The Joker, I actually like this version more than Asylum or City and onward. There are a lot of things about this game that make it underrated but for some reason people choose to trash it because of the minor things that make it mediocre, rather than paying closer attention to the things that make it so great.

I think it's best touch is tying in the asylum to both Ras and Joker. It seems implied based on dialogue that shiva got sharp to act as the front man for Arkham Asylum, all part of ras's quest to save gotham from itself, going back to wonder city, which the city stories tell us was orchestrated by ras and his son dr arcadian. From the public's perspective Arkham Asylum's reopening was justified because of blackgate having 2 breakouts in one night. Joker is the one that did it because joker is the chaos of gotham incarnate. Strange probably did enough investigation and probing into Sharp's mind to learn about Ras, then proposed Arkham City to him, which he'd go along with because the asylums been ineffective for a canonical 10 years. Arkham origins really defined the core of the narrative of these games and then sefton hill botched it with knight going off in a completely different direction.
