I ordered an A2ZEV Tesla charger for my Lightning. Took 3 weeks to arrive. I used it last night. OMG!! Game changer!

Totally agree on the turning radius. I noticed that day one in the dealership parking lot… a problem with or without a trailer. Chargers without pull through ability is pure shortsightedness. Sites should at least apply the 80/20 rule and make a few stalls pull through. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the support and comment! Yes, we have a ways to go but the reality is most of it has little to do with the actual trucks and more to do with corner-cutting on infrastructure. What surprises me is that here in Canada, there is little to no oversight as to what charger gets government funds. One would think there would be a minimum kw charging speed at the least but it doesn't look that way. Let's hope some companies take the lead and force competitive change.

I absolutely love my lightning platinum. It is the most efficient truck I've ever owned. With kwh costs being just $.08/kwh in winter and $.12/kwh in summer and now I've been recently charging from my solar system on really sunny days.

I tow with my lightning platinum all the time. There's never an issue. I don't believe I'd have any problems with my truck even if I was to overload my trailer . Since I only use my truck locally when I tow, there's never a range problem when towing either. I wish Ford would've come out with this truck a long time ago. I wouldn't have had to put all that gasoline in all my gas guzzling trucks that I've owned. I've had my sokar system since 2010, which I could've used to charge it when I had excess solar power. I would've recouped the cost of my solar system much sooner.

I am happy to see more and more ev trucks on the road. Here in the Canadian Kootenays, not a day goes by where I don't see a Lightning or Rivian - and a LOT of them are towing campers! What the FUD-chuckers fail to realize is that a large percentage of campsites have 30 or 50-amp plugs, which makes an ev truck a perfect camping truck. There been reports on the F150 lightning that loses range. Use one hand to hold the cover and the other hand plugging the trailer wire connector in

I'm not saying you aren't having problems with your 4 wire connector , but I've used several trailers with 4 wire connectors and haven't had any problems with any of them. I open the spring-loaded door with my left hand and plug in, and pull out the connector with my right hand . I suppose if I let the cover snap shut, it could damage my wires. But I never let go of the cover until it's resting on the connector.

I never let it snap shut either but the spring in it is quite strong. Even if I gently close it, it puts enough pressure on the wire to start crimping it. After several uses, there are obvious stress points on all four wires. Due to this, it is a real bugger to pull back out also. Maybe I have an 'irrationally exuberant' spring :-).

I'm puzzled that Ford screwed up the trailer plug thing on the F-150. The Ford F-150 is supposed to be the most popular truck of all. Towing is supposed to be one of the major reason people get trucks. Why would Ford screw up the socket for the four prong trailer plug that badly on the F-150?

I've often thought Ford could've done a better job with the turning radius. With all the batteries so low and well distributed, i doubt there would be a roll problem regardless of how sharp it turned.

I have a Lightning Flash on order but it appears that Ford has stopped shipping all lightnings. Not sure what is going on. Would be great to see a video explaining the situation. Love your videos. Great sense of humor.

Did you look at out there stock ? I got a 23 loaded for the flash 24 price plus in 24 you don’t get the free 80 amp ( plus $1500) . The 23s are very discounted! Unless you live in cold hell and need the heat pump the 23s out there are a bargain !

I just got word my flash will be delivered in a few weeks. I guess the hold on F150s has been lifted.

@@nilsbehn Great news! I looked into your query and according to the dealers in my area, there was no hold. However, sometimes there are dealer allocation holds, which is an entirely different thing. In any case, so glad you landed your truck! The Flash is super value for the price.

Remember to order your 80 amp charger separately. In 24 it is no longer free. to charge your truck off a 32 amp charger takes over 13 hours. On a 48 it still takes 10 hours. Just a reminder if you plan to use a lot of range daily.

In other words, 4 of your main points can be put down to, charging an EV truck on the road sucks, at least for the moment.

Yup. It has less to do with the truck, its capabilities, and its design than the infrastructure it relies upon. Kinda feels like the 1920s with a gas automobile, I'm guessing. Great astute comment, as always! Thanks!

All of my concerns about my lightning would be using public chargers. But if I had to use public chargers, I wouldn't have purchased my lightning platinum. Most of my charging is done from my solar system. If necessary, I charge with the 80 amp charger that came with my truck.

thats why i tell everyone if i couldnt charge at home i wouldnt own an ev. and i dont travel any farther than my charged state

Great point, Tim! I think we're at the cusp, however. I do tow beyond my home range, and things are getting better, but we're still at that 1920s gas auto equivalent moment, so here's hoping the FUD chuckers don't scare the segment out of progressing beyond it. As always, thanks for the comment!

It’s insane to own an ev without access to a home charger . For years all I had was a 110 on my 2012volt and years later on my new to me 2012 Tesla . I only got 48 amp charging when I got my 2016 Tesla . Now with my 2023 lightning the idea of not having home charging is insane ! Why buy an ev without it ? Either at home or at work it is needed !

@@roydelpozo4816 I agree. Home charge savings are massive over not only gas/diesel but dc fast charging - to such a level that doing anything else hits a whopping 10 on the 'dumb-ass' scale.

@@truckedupevs here I’ll help your growth out with some local facts . In my are of OK PSO ( local electric ) has a night ev plan . It makes your 2-7 pm more expensive at a whopping 12 cents from 8 cents per kw . But it makes your 11pm to 6 am 2.5 cents per kw ! So charging my lightning from empty to full ( all 131 of somehow I needed that ) is $3.28 cents . That money gives me the ability to go real world 250 miles at full speed . In a gas f150 at full speed that gets me less than 20 miles down the road . Less than 10 percent the range per dollar . But let’s say I had to charge in the horrible spot of 2 -7 pm . $15.72 is the damage . So that gets me less than 100 Miles on gas still . I have convinced quite a few people to switch over to EVs when shown these numbers . Especially the folks that commute with pickup from “ the country” . They are now proud lightning owners ( now that they are cheap !) I got mine $18500 off plus 3.9 financing ! When I showed others this they were on board ! I paid 4K extra for the 10 years 150k warranty so I plan on getting my money out of it ! Of If I stop driving it it will become a mobile power backup ! The only thing that so far for me sucks is the nav software! After using Tesla nav ford nav is just retarded ! It’s terrible ! That whole system needs a redo ! Or just buy into ABRP. Because what you have is just horrible ! Very happy otherwise ! My truck never leaves a 100 miles circle from my house so I am very happy with this use case . I don’t tow. The bed gets lots of use but no towing . Range is too short and charging to slow for any meaningful distance .

It’s a lifestyle look at me vehicle . A big Tesla fan but don’t see a cyber truck in my future. Actually love the style but the price is just nuts. Like all else Tesla in 2 years they will be half price . And the used ones will be. Quarter price while still under warranty . I’ll take one then . But to your video towing is a no with electrics for a while . Pass . Not their forte ! Cowboy Cadillac for me !

Non Tesla Chargers are such crap ! They are getting better but they are still crap ! And the speed of most chargers ( non Tesla ) that are reliable are 30 -100 kw . There is a ChargePoint in my town that is always working with no issues but it’s freaking measly 62kw. Also a 30kw ChargePoint at the Kia dealership that while free is SLOW! I’ll happily pay for reliability and speed ! But EA failed me to many times ! Pass ! Their 350s are broke most of the time ! Their 125s are more reliable but still shit ! If we get reliable charging out there more people will adopt EVs !
