I appreciate how well you ARTICULATE your thoughts on the car. Not many RU-vidrs - new or experienced - can cohesively get their thoughts across like that. Keep up the great work!
Well in the old days I got a new well it had 7k miles 1979 Trans Am with a 6.6 liter V8. It was considered as a really fast over powered sports car. So it had like 200 hp and was heavy. 0 to 60 in 6.6 seconds. Now we have this super light car with 228 hp and sub 6 second 0 to 60 times plus it handle’s curves. How spoiled are we?
wow a pop-up banner that actually popped up.. this is why zygrene is one my favorite car channel. the production value overall is better than some big name youtubers. keep up the good work Bro
Nice to hear more impressions, my 2017 UK GT86 has a lot of the interior gauge functions, although the individual PSI on the 2022 GR 86/BRZ is really cool. Design wise agree new ones look good a bit softer looking, I like it but agree with others rear lights a bit NSX C1 like. That Subaru app looks pretty nice. Extra horsepower must be nice as you say keyword is it is still fun to drive.
People keep talking garbage about this car cause of the horsepower.... this car beats my friends impreza procharged with a cobb tuned when cornering. Not everything is a straight line I haven't gotten bored of this car it beats the previous generation by far.
I sat and played with the interior on 2022 premium manual BRZ past weekend. I have 2015 limited manual BRZ and definitely lots of good updates over 1st gen. Haven't driven one but spec wise power train upgrades are totally worthy it as well. 1st gen was somewhat controversial due to engine torque dip and some drawbacks that Subaru improved over time. The 2nd gen (really 1.5 gen...) fixed lots of the issues finally deserves to be number one sportscar in the price range.
I was watching some other guy's video on the 5 things he loved -- stopped watching when he started talking about liking the automatic transmission, and blocked his channel (JK). I just did my first autocross with Spokes at COTA a couple weeks ago - I'm hooked. I want to stay in D street for at least a season to really learn the car before I do any serious mods - spend a little money and you'll just put yourself in a more competitive class where everyone else has outspent you. I am adding some 4-point seat belts from OMP just for that snug feeling while driving. Just splurged and got the RaceBox Mini 25hz GPS and an OBDLink MX+ to use with RaceChrono Pro (one of few apps that supports both of those) so I can capture data and make some cool vids. One thing that disappointed me: the OBD2 data doesn't include the brake pressure, or steering angle, which I know that the car knows because it displays it on the G meter. This data was apparently available on the Gen1 cars but not the 2022. The good news is that Timurrrr come up with a DIY hack to read the CAN bus so that this data can also be captured with RaceChrono!
For steering feel, I can say with absolute certainty the BRZ has better feel than the S2000 and probably similar to the Porsche. Drove my BRZ back to back with a friends AP2 and the S2000 tells you basically nothing through the wheel. It’s been a long time since I drove a 997 though.
Great video, this makes me really jealous, here in France, the GR86 will be around 40k $ with a 20k environmental tax, even most engineers can't buy such a car here. Still it makes me happy that people can enjoy it and make the "hachi roku" legend live on.
@@mitchjames9350 Here people are not very passionate about cars (just look at french car designs...) And driving a sporty car is considered as a flex and is criticized a lot. And sadly, you are right about our government.
If I bought new Subaru to DD, I would go with the WRX. My old Impreza would power through the snow no problem. It's just a shame they dropped the wagon. All said, I would take a Miata over this easy.
Thanks for the video, I have one ordered and will arrive in April. Curious if you are getting a coating or ppf on your BRZ? I'm very excited to get my hands on the car.
Headless double amputee 5 year olds only. Actually, you could put small adults back there for a short trip if the people up front are willing to compromise some of their legroom. NOBODY in the car will be comfortable.
I hope they STI this one properly. Turbo and all. The 2014 Forester had a turbo on it, the WRX had same engine minus the snail. Do the STI turbo. It just makes sense for the guys who want a turbo & a warranty.
Wait for my BRZ vs S2K video for a full comparison, but for now I'll say the BRZ has lighter controls than S2K/997 and a shifter that's much better than stock 997 but not as good as S2K.
@@Zygrene one thing I’m curious about is- does lighter mean “cheaper feeling?” Or just lighter in a still, controlled, linear way? I think S2k inputs feel great (nicely weighted, linear, etc) for any price point.
How do you reset it? Mine has already disconnected multiple times while driving and listening to music. If I just wait like 2 minutes it automatically connects again and starts playing music or podcast etc. It is annoying though.
It’s the most interesting car made today for thinking people. It’s got a lot of potential but it is probably the best car overall made today. It’s just that most car buyers are not very intelligent and don’t get it. BTY I drive a new Subaru Forester Wilderness and think it’s perfect for its category. I just want a good sports car also. I want to add this as a sports car.
Hi, realy nice video, I can only watch videos so far cause these are not in Europe yet. What mpg you get with the new engine? And one realy weird question but do think its usable for kids/ kid seats in the back?
It’s a beautiful car & for sure a fun car to drive. Or those looking for a fun small sports car the BRZ will fill your needs. However is you are looking for a sports car with room for 5 & giving tons of fun in the snow without getting stuck for the same cost then the WRX will full fill your needs not to mention 268 hp.😁👍
interesting to see the comparison to the Miata, just had an option to test drive the Miata on "driver experience" thing in a small track, just to get an idea of how this thing behaves, and this small car is such fun to drive! I'd buy it in a second but it's too small and because I can't afford 3 cars, the Subaru is a more sensible choice for an everyday ride. BTW, I'm 52 years old and very fat, but I could fit in the Miata, so if you are like me and stay away from this car, don't! try it in person, you might be surprised.
What are your thoughts on the sound system, specifically at highway speeds? I'm coming from a ND2 miata softtop with the bose system and it sounded great under 40mph, but once you get higher than that my god you have to blast it to hear anything. Forget about music on the highway.
@@Zygrene Honestly thats a slight relief. I hated not being able to hear music on the highway in the ND. I'd rather listen to low quality music than none at all. Could always upgrade the speakers or add a ~10-20 lbs sound deadening
I have the limited and the audio is much better than an WRX with kicker speakers. The most important thing is to connect your phone with a high grade USB C CABLE which allows better interface between phone and android auto. I use a commdex cable rated at 10Gbps.
Hi i am interested to know what you would think about me thinking of trading my 997 c2s for this. Roads where i live are twisty and i feel this might have more useable power. Do you think i would be happy with the swap?
You should really drive one first before committing to that swap. They’re such different cars, your personal preference is going to play into it a lot. They aren’t really directly comparable in a fair manner. The 997 was probably around $90k new 10+ years ago and still a $50k+ car today, so it’s a completely different $ ballpark than a JDM $30k sports car in 2022. Maybe you’ll love the BRZ/GR86 more because it has a lot of Pros, but maybe the less expensive nature of the car will annoy you. Again, your personal preference will come into play, and no one can tell you how you feel better than yourself. So figure out what you’re looking for, don’t ask other people what is best for you.
@@joeracer302 here in the uk a good 997.1 is £30k and the gr86 will likely be £30k. Both rwd 2+2 sports cars so comparable in what someone with £30k looking for a sports car would consider. New tech, lighter, less power vs premium, heavier, more powerful and of course the uniqueness of the rear engine The problem is they are only on sale here for 2 years due to new regs and they will all sell out before the ability to test drive much like the gr yaris. So trying to get advice from owners in the us beforehand.
They already have. Look at dyno charts of the FA20 vs the FA24 and you will see the dip has been 90% removed. It's not the deal breaker it used to be, and it's mainly down to better flow on the FA24 as per the StratifiedAuto channel. They have also experimented with equal length vs unequal length headers. According to their tests, UEL is better for daily driving and gets rid of more of the dip, EL is better for top-end where it still has some of the torque dip but the FA24 makes so much more torque everywhere that it's not a concern any more ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aNPWNisXC3s.html
@@TypeVertigo Thanks for the kind explaination. I always thought these cars were interesting but not in stock na form. Looking forward to see how the new engine feels like.
how’s the understeer on this car? really interested in what owners of the new gen have to say, many say there’s a lot more understeer than previous gen, while a couple say it’s not really noticeable
It’s not noticeable on the BRZ, on the GR86 you will notice it due to the difference in the suspension differences. The BRZ feels more stable allowing for more confidence turning hard at higher speeds, while the GR86 is more understeery and easier to slip at higher speeds
What..you can't fold the rear seat down ?? !!! That means I can't swap 4 tyres for the track..like Version 1!!! If that true they've just killed it for me.
Does the MT limited trim BRZ 2022 come with front/rear parking sensors? I plan to daily the Premium GR86 in the city, with frequent parking into tight spots and missing the sensors would be a big con for me. Thanks for the answer!
Below 2000 rpm is usually lugging the engine and the car makes way more torque 3000 rpm and higher so it’s just more fun to have it like that. Similar to a Miata, these engines spin at over 3000 rpm on the highway anyway so they can rev all day long no issues
@@Zygrene Oh well, I think I'd liked like the car better if it had my K20C2 engine. 0-60 would suffer but combined consumption would be closer to 30mpg and cruising around the city would be brainless with usable low down torque. Perhaps the Japanese should also do a Honda/Subaru mutt for the BRZ.
Is it more cost effective to swap out the GR86's steel knuckles for the Subaru's aluminum knuckles OR to get the Brz and swap in Toyota variant's front bumper and paint match it? i remember test driving one of the first FRS' that came out back in 2012. my neighbor was a sales manager at the local toyota dealer. i was shopping for a tC and he insisted that I try the 86 first. although i did enjoy it, it was an absolute turd. the tC, even though it is fwd, was way more practical and actually had 15-20 more horsepower at the wheels. i want to love these cars but i've seen too many of them explode at the track.
Pretty sure someone who has the Miata on their shopping list doesn’t have practicality very high on it. But yeah it’s a proven platform to build on that shouldn’t affect dailyability all that much vs others. IIRC Fenton said if he had an ND he wouldn’t daily it.
Does it annoy anybody that he keeps calling this car cheap, budget or inexpensive?? 30k is not cheap or inexpensive, i bought a miata over the brz which cost the same and even though i can afford a more expensive car i would never say the miata or this car is budget, cheap or inexpensive..
He probably means that they are cheap in the sportscar world or performance cars in general. Not many sporty cars around you can cheaper than this. Some small hatchbacks like fiesta st but thats about it.
@@TheLeewi98 well saying this is a sport car is far fetched but ok, now if we use that logic the mustang is a better sport car and cheaper, all Am saying regardless what it is 30k aint cheap or budget or inexpensive
@@cogenerate Its a Subaru engine. The whole car was a joint effort, regardless of who owns what. I would personally rather have the gr86 just so people like you dont come up to me and say "you know, technically thats a toyota". Nothing wrong with toyota sports car, they've been doing it for 50 years.
