Didn't think the paint was as bad you made it out to be...until I finally got to ride mine. You were so right. The paint scratches, swirls and scuffs so easily. I literally rode it for the first time today for maybe 20 miles and the paint on the tank is already scuffing off from wear my leather jacket rubbed against it. Considering BMW charges outrageous amounts for their paint you would think it would be super durable but nope. Worst paint job I've seen ever seen on a bike. They need to warn people that you need to get it clear coated or wrapped with ppf before you even attempt to ride it because this is ridiculous. Also warning to everyone, its stupid expensive if you have to repair anything. I did some preventative research and priced how much a simple tip over would cost and its around $2000+ and thats for minimal damage and if you do the work yourself. So if you get an s1k do yourself a favor and get all the protection you can. It will be cheaper than if you actually have to fix something. Breakdown cost of a simple tip over for points of contact depending the side: $160 clutch lever $480 winglet(painted) $360 stator/clutch cover $100 for bar ends/sliders $340 upper side fairing(painted) $340 lower side fairing(painted) $400-500 mirror $900-1000 exhaust can God help you if you scratch/dent the tank- $2300 Oh and thats if the parts are even available considering bmw likes yo stop sale on their parts for no reason. I could repair a tip over for a japanese bike tor a couple hundred. Hell you could buy a ninja 400 for the price to fix some scratches on the s1k lol. Im refusing to ride my s1k until the rest of my protection comes in.
Pinned your comment because of how true it is, a lot of people called me an asshole because I said “this isn’t for somebody who works minimum wage”. It’s just facts. The paint is horrible on it but it has a meaning, this is all in all a race bike and the paint/clear coat should be super thin to reduce weight. HOWEVER BMW knows that a lot of s1000s don’t even go on the track, it wouldn’t hurt to put more layers of clear coat on it. As well as I have frame sliders on my bike, it has saved me so much money simply because of how short I am and how tall the bike is. My girlfriend will get on the back a little weird and I lose my balance, not proud to say it but I have dropped my bike twice already from that. Thankfully it was no damage to the fairings at all, just my frame sliders and my bar end, otherwise I’d be in the hole like you said $4,000 already. My bike is ceramic coated but that unfortunately has not helped paint chips from rocks on the front end, there are atleast 4 small ones it’s irritating but I plan on getting it professionally repainted in the future. I also get my bike professionally detailed once a year during spring time to get all the swirls out and such, they come back within a week but it’s peace of mind for me. I know how to clean a bike properly but they are so inevitable, you can’t do anything (besides PPF) to stop it. I’m glad you noticed the same thing, it sucks. With all that being said I wouldn’t trade my S1K for any other bike and I still am very happy with the performance aspect and everything else. Thankfully I have not had any mechanical failures that have cost me money, cause that would be tough considering I ride my bike almost everyday in the summer to make RU-vid videos and go to work. HOWEVER the 2023 has 2 recalls for the bike as of right now, the front brake lever for the billet package as well as the water pump to my knowledge. NEITHER of them have been in stock at my local dealership for a WHOLE YEAR. Pretty ridiculous.
@@s1kdk I didn't know about the water pump recall. Should probably get that checked out. Thx for the heads up. On a different note I have found a fairing company that can do a full set with winglets for about $800 and match the black metal storm paint if I ever need. If I can remember I drop a link
Hey guys. I've owned three S1000RRs and I have a fourth one on order right now. I'm almost 60 years old and I disagree about the comfort. I've put tens of thousands of miles often times touring on my S1000RRs including with saddlebags etc. I've had three back surgeries and have a horrible back but I don't have any back pain while riding or after riding my S1000RR. The only significant modification I've made to help are adding small risers that don't require any rewiring and when I ride I ride with my chest on the tank. I also adjust my rear sets to be as high up and back as possible. As far as the 600 mi break-in, to me that's just a one or two day ride on some slower back roads and then I'm done. I don't think it's a big deal at all. The flat range between 4,000 and 8,000 RPMs has never bothered me. I use those RPMs for when I'm in chill mode. If I'm trying to bust it, I'm at 8,000 RPMs or above anyway. But I have to admit I am now curious about tuning and will check that out for sure.
You would love the tune man! Thanks for the input, check out BT MOTO and use my code “S1KDK” if you’re going to make a purchase :) it’ll save you some money!
Honestly I really don’t mind it as far as comfort. Is it a Hayabusa? No, but i have 4 herniated discs in my lower back and this doesn’t bother me. I am 6’4” 350lbs too. I really do want to get that tune and you are very correct about that stock exhaust lol, easy was to say it is, with the stock exhaust you can hear the motor idle over the actual exhaust
Hey so my dealer can now provide the BrenTune . . . so should I go that route or do it at home? I've hand held tuned before but like idea of dealer being somewhat responsible too.
@andrewferguson2333 they’ll make you pay the extra dollar I wouldn’t to be honest it’s very easy to do yourself, and right now they’re doing a huge sale so I would suggest buying it now and if you use my code (S1KDK) , it will go to 20% off
Dont know where you are coming from but this bike is the most comfortable 1000cc sportbike on the market, period! SuperSports are not really meant to ride passengers. Oil change can be done by you for like $80 for good synthetic oil and filter. Exhaust, all you need is headers from Arrow for $900-$1400, SS or TI. Akra headers will set you back some more. You dont even have to change the muffler with those headers saving you money. Insurance, you are very young buying one of the most powerful bikes out there, so yeah you are going to pay! I pay $52 month for mine and thats very high coverage 100/300 with underinsured/uninsured coverage plus only 100/500 deductables. As far as restrictions, every damn 1000cc SS bikes are heavy restricted no matter the brand and you will have to get a flash tune! If you own this bike I highly recommend buying a GS911 to work on things yourself, pays for itself in one oil change!
I actually sat on the 2023 s1000rr and the 2017 s1000rr at the dealer today. The 2017 was more comfortable. It had me in a more upright position. The 2023 wasn't that bad to me but not as comfortable as the 2017. However the 2023 is bad ass compared to the 2017. The electronics and looks are subperb. Too bad the dealer didn't allow test rides. Now i have to decide in a reasonable fashion on which bike to get b4 they are sold. I'm 5'8 by the way so that might had something to do with it as well.
@@Anonymous-jj9yu the 2017 i was actually flat footed. The 2023 just raised the heel of my feet. No flat footed but not tip of my toes either. This was in tennis shoes as well.
@@s1kdk i was thinking the same thing but the price difference is what makes it that much harder. Were talking like a little over 4k of a price difference!
Alittle over 300$ a month is really not bad for a 21 year old person. I found insurance for the s1000rr for 200$ to start it and 175$ amounts after that.
Out of all the litre bikes I’ve owned. The 2024 s1000rr was the most comfortable in my opinion. The panigale (had rear sets) was a nightmare on rides longer than 1 hour, the R1 was decent but bearable, the zx10r was just very cramped but upright, and the fireblade almost has same comfort as s1000rr. But idk, that’s just me maybe 🤷🏽♂️
Hey, awesome Video thanks man I orderd mine couple of days ago. Cant wait until its ready to pick up. One question: Do you know if the limitation between 4k and 8k rpm are just for the American bikes? Or is that stock no matter the region?
Waiting to pick mine up this Saturday and i just cant wait! Will have to wait a little while before i get an exhaust and tune, but already set a plan in mind to get the breakin miles as soon as possible..lol
I'm 42 y/o, 20 years riding, and no tickets or claims and my insurance is $178 per month on this bike. Just insane. I got a cheaper quote on a new $33k Ducati Panigale V4S.
I’m 36, clean record and 18 years with MSF. Quoted me at 190 for full coverage on a 2023 M package. My 2023 636 and 2014 zx6r for will coverage cost me $120 a month lol. Sold the 2014 to get this though and well worth it.
Do you like the high windshield? I’m ordering a 2024 but prefer the looks of the low profile windshield. I know the high windshield is better for wind but does it make that much difference on the daily?
Have you had any reliabilty issues? Was getting ready to buy a 2023 w full exhaust and stage 2 tune. Only has 600 miles on it. Guy got the first service done, did the upgrades then traded it in right after. But since it has a flash and fill exhaust im worried about reliabilty and warantee issues.
No reliability issues at all, bike has been a beast with 5000 miles. I keep up on maintenance though very well. I’m sure it’ll be fine, a lot of people buy it mod it and sell it because they’re bored.
@@s1kdk good to hear. My only other concerns is parts or repairs. Was looking how much it would be if to repair things if the bike just tipped over and it be almost $1000 minimum. Winglets are almost $400 a piece. Just a break pedal is $160. Just the pedal itself.
@jvillain9946 yep, it’s expensive. I have already tipped mine over and thankfully the frame sliders I have on saved it from ANY damage! Invest in good frame sliders and you’ll be good.
Has your radiator fluid been leaking? I heard there is a recall on it. I been having a leak off and on and have had to stay on top of it since. I gotta call the dealer. I heard the wait time is anywhere from 6 months to a year for the oem replacement part.
@@s1kdk my bike has 6200 miles on it now. It happened at about a couple weeks or so ago. It’s okay for now I just hope it doesn’t get worse. I’m going to take care of it this coming week. Anyway bro be safe. Congratulations
With that full exhaust, did you not have to put a cat back on? I always heard if you remove the bread basket you can’t get safety’d. How did you get past that?
What a lovely bike. I was thinking of getting one, I am sixty years old, so the insurance will not be too bad. But as you say it may not be very comfortable for me. Lovely colour.
Beautiful and amazing bike, no doubt. but the value just isn’t there. Especially considering other great liter bikes one can get for thousands less than the Beamer. Much of the extra cost is in the BMW name and logo. I’ve heard about those $300+ oil changes. On a bike??? That’s nuts! I bought a brand new 2024 Hayabusa back in June. Slapped a bunch of mods on it right away, including a Brock’s full exhaust. Including the cost of the bike itself, I likely have around $23k into it, which is still not as much as a bone stock S1000RR. Of course I installed all the loads myself, including the exhaust swap. You really should do your own maintenance, especially considering the expense of it on a Beamer.
Ordered mine before I ever sat on one. Bmw had a demo day last week (1 week before delivery) and I loved it. Can't wait for mine. 😊 Thanks for the video and info Beautiful bike. I think the grill guard & crash pucks are the most important mod. Are they easy to put on? Any cutting?
Ok so I got to ask other than your first oil change plus the rev limiter can you do the rest of the oil changes yourself? And insurance has always been expensive for the younger audience
Yes you can do oil change by your self. You’ll only have to go to bmw for mileage services and for updates on software. Insurance is expensive for younger people because they’re on average more at risk to crashing or dropping the bike. Although having it in your parents name aswell can drop it by A lot. My s1k insurance was well over 500 a month but the woman at bmw advised me to add my dad and it dropped to 130 a month lol😂
@@Anonymous-jj9yu hmm I’m pretty sure bmw services are more expensive than kawasakis, yamahas,Suzukis and some others just because they’re bmw but I’m sure high insurance is the same for all liter bikes, well because they’re very dangerous
I stop all the time when I ride, must still live at home because he has a 3k exhaust on it that he kept telling us. I don’t have any issues with mine I think it’s fast enough without the tune. I only ride on the street unlocking will definitely get me in trouble I’m good🤷🏾♂️
Beautiful bike, but change and do your own maintenance talking about this isn’t a broke boy bike, spend the time to get to know your beautiful machine my guy🤘🏼 keep up the good vids
Every other review I saw said this is the most comfortable sports bike. So I don't agree with this guy about comfortable it must be his first bike. All sports bikes are not comfortable but I sports bike. I saw some reviews where this one's better for taller riders like myself also. I had the 2015 double r r. I could ride that for 2 hours without stopping and I'm 38 6'6. So that's what I'm sure I can do more especially with the adjustable pegs on the M class bike
Bro called me broke in rev languages 🤣😂 me working less minimum wages bro your one year above me i ask your profession? Also awesome video on side note.
What bike is not a money pit, nothing cheap on the sports bike. And for good reason and if you want quality parts also. You should expect it or at least not be surprised.
Agreed, so do 300s/600s brotha. Watch my video (Best beginner/starter bikes) to get an idea on what you should get! IF you have rode dirt bikes a lot throughout your life, I would recommend a 600cc.
Heated grips are standard on any RR or single R in the UK. I have 22 Single R, 21 RR M sport, and 23 MR. All have heated grips? In the uk. It's less than £200 for a full service? But nearly £1.70 per litre of fuel
@sambagogo777 all my three bikes come with heated grips. Nothing is an extra on the MR. Both my S1000R sport and RR also have heated grips. So unless you're talking about a entry level. Which I don't have. Heated grips definitely come with the bikes I have. I can't find a S1000R on the auto trader with out heated grips
@@ravenmoto310 sorry I only quoted the oil at the time. Motul 10w40 Road Racing oil is $58 for 4L at this exact moment and an oil filter is $15. A far cry from the amount quoted in the video.
Yea...21 y/o...thats not going to be cheap no matter what you drive. The maintenance costs are really driven by the dealer. I dont get that. I have 2 dealers in a 100 mile range and one was the 400 dollar kind and the other a 100 dollar kind. Coming from a harley, I've been surprised how much cheaper the parts are to upgrade and maintain a bmw vs the harley.
@@s1kdk last question...I promise...I'm buying another BMW so I'm curious if you looked at the 1000R or the M series and how you landed on what you have
@dnbanb no worries about the questions! I’m here to help:) no I personally did not look at the S1000R. I like full fairing bikes. Especially with the plans I have to track this bike I wanted it to have a windscreen:)
Do you think the S1000RR is okay as a first motorcycle? I'm getting into the sport, and I want to get your opinion on what you think about this. (I obviously heard that it's better to start off with a smaller cc bike and go up from there. I really like the S1000RR though, and if it's something that I can start on with care and humbleness, I would love to.)
Wouldn’t recommend it, you will more then likely die. You are going to drop your first bike, with a smaller less expensive bike it’s no big deal that’s what starter bikes are for. If you drop this bike, it will cost you $1,000+ just to fix the fairings. This is America though and you can do what you want, but please consider working your way up. You will have a better understanding of bikes in general starting from a smaller CC. They are more forgiving and you can learn the basics. This bike is not forgiving at all. If you dump the clutch while trying to start in first (a lot of people do when they first start off because they don’t understand) you will INSTANTLY go into a wheelie and loop the bike. Damaging it and more importantly yourself. If anything this bike will SCARE you away from wanting to ride more because of how much raw power it has. I recommend a CBR 300R for starters or a ZX4R. Perfect bikes to start on and learn the fundamentals!
terrible advice im dead. get used and learn to do ur own maintenance. can get a liter bike for a few K and most of the time it'll already have an aftermarket exhaust
He's not stopping anyone. Just giving his experience and what to expect. People say don't go car broke and get an expensive car payment same thing goes for bikes.
All things from Germany are over hyped and way so expensive. And you guys and these loud exhaust are just annoying. The EPA is shutting down the after market manufactures of non EPA systems. So, keep the stock one handy, you have to put it back on soon.
@@s1kdk Age is part, but so is your driving record. But shopping around for the best deal pays off every time. I'm 62. But even in my 20's, I always paid half of what my friends paid because I shopped every 6 months.
You forgot to mention these bikes are eating motors like crazy. BMW stole the K5 GSX-R 1000, electrified it, but forgot to steal the reliability part from Suzuki. What a shame. Do your homework on the amount of blown engines before buying this extremely expensive bike. It could change your life in a not so good way unless you have a disposable income.
There is mixed opinions on that, my S1K hasn’t given me any problems whatsoever at 6000 miles so far. There has been people with blown engines yes, but that is every single bike on the road as well.
BMW is having problems. A quick search of RU-vid turned me away from this bike. Two people shelling out $15,000 for new engines when the grenaded engines are clearly BMW's fault . You could buy a new GSX-R 1000 or any Japanese liter bike for close to that. BMW is the new Ducati. Stay the F away. @@s1kdk
@@s1kdkI had my suspensions something was wrong with BMW quality control / case hardening process when I saw a video of "Two Wheels and a Pony Tail" (here on RU-vid), changing her oil. Talented chick for sure. No magnetic drain plug should ever have that much shavings / metal attached to it ever. I'm a mechanic of thirty years. She should have traded the S1000RR in the following day... it's only a matter of time before that engine grenades.
Mine was about the same for my 23 XR M package. 32 dollars for shop supplies 😂. It will be the last trip to the dealer. I buy my oil and filter from the dealer so there is a paper trail for the warranty. 3K in miles since June 30, fully modded (by week2) loving it so far.
100%, I’m gonna lose thousands tho when/if I sell this bike: what’s another $1000 when I’m gonna be saving myself multiple from not going through them. Win some lose some and you ALWAYS lose from buying a bike off the showroom floor. By the way not planning on selling it for a long time just plan on adding more to the collection😉
I guess they do not make yall young bous like they used to. Im 47 with a 23 R1, 21 GAXR1000r and have NO PROBLEMS. Im old school and I have rode mines all day with no problems
Dude lol, before you start throwing accusations out. I used to work on semis all the time it was my job. I know how to do a simple oil change and much more, the whole reason why I said it was for information to the daily user that might not want to do it themselves because of warranty reasons. All I said was that’s what they quoted me, never said I went through them. I let another shop do it for warranty reasons. I’ve tore apart my old 600RR many times for fun! I know what I’m doing😂 just thought it was a valuable piece of information for everyone that’s what you should expect.
