I am a software developer currently living in Vancouver. I hope to one day move to Calgary. I watched your video regarding how hard it is to find a job. I certainly think it's due to covid. Especially since I have attended multiple tech fairs with majority companies coming from Calgary. Anyways, I would like to connect with you on Linkedin if you don't mind?
I don't know if your aware but Calgary's website has a map gallery. Among the maps is a Roadway Activities Map that shows all the roadworks projects planned for the current year and next year. Frank, This was super helpful info. I didn't realize that Calgary was the Canadian capitol of hailstorms and that auto insurance is higher because of that. Thanks for the head's up!
We get a lot of windshield chips here in NW Montana so I'm used to it! We are going to move part-time to Calgary in the next few years, but also live part-time in Montana. I'm not sure how insurance works when we split our time between Canada and the U.S. Crossing my fingers that you get a job offer in Calgary soon!@@FrankHuynh
Hey Frank. Glad I stumbled across your channel. Gonna binge all your videos. I'm in Vancouver and planning to move to Calgary due to the cost of homeownership!
Surprised about the insurance. I use to pay way more living in Brampton until I moved to Calgary 6yrs ago. Currently paying 50% less in Calgary. Best wishes
That car insurance for $300/month is really high! I’ve been driving in Calgary for at least 6 years and even when i started driving a brand new car i still wasnt paying $300 a month. Still though, I recommend calling your car insurance often to find out where you could save. I have been doing that and I only pay $120/month now. Obviously my car is no longer brand new but it is fully covered. I know there’s the “male tax” as well…still my husband pays less that $300/month. That just seems outrageous to me
ya i think it had to do with my car being a lease that made it more expensive! I was shocked too tho, but thanks for the info - ill be sure to call them.
Hey, if you hang some cloth on your wall it can act as a sound dampener and kill that echo during your recording. Alternatively you can build a sound dampener, with some 1x4's insulation and used sheets they look really cool, are cheap to make and work like a charm. I have a bunch in my jam space and I think we were able to make them for less than $10 each? Been a while so I could be a little wrong on that cost estimate. Also thanks for making honest content about this great city we live in! I'll sub for sure!
@@FrankHuynh I don't think it's the mic your sound quality is really good and your voice is clear, I believe you're getting reverberation from the flat wall behind you. That's why I suggest a large piece of cloth, or a decorative carpet, or sound baffles which are essentially just a wooden frame with insulation in the middle covered in cloth, they are all easy options and probably cheaper than a new mic. If you wanted to spend more money you can buy ready made sound baffles too. But I don't think it's your mic. If you just want to do a self test take the mic in the bedroom, sit on your bed with a blanket over your head and do a few test recordings you'll probably find it will be crystal clear. The soft surfaces trap the sound waves and make it harder for them to reverberate off the walls causing that echo in your video.
oh snap, the car stuff is a bummer for me. I'm a car guy and hearing about bad roads and frequent broken windshields is disappointing..but sacrificing my windshield for affordable homes is a trade I would make 100 times over, lol
Yeah about half the drivers in Toronto have no business having a license. We all pay super high insurance rates because there are so many immature idiots on the roads doing 140km/h (or more), weaving in and out, generally hostile/aggressive, etc. I love driving but it's one of the least pleasant places to drive. That they do a better job policing the roads in Calgary is a BIG BIG plus.
@@FrankHuynh Yup, I used to pay $400 a month and after a year, I am just paying $220 including the apartment. By the way, we moved also from Toronto, we lived there for 12 years...
I personally would! But I'm sure you could get around too - especially if everything you need is close to you (downtown for example) - But sounds like from another comment you're originally from Calgary - you would know better than me!
@@FrankHuynh hahaha I moved to Toronto when I was Five so I barely know Cowtown so this is definitely a learning experience for me as well. I will get a vehicle eventually ☺️
I moved back to Calgary after living in B.C. for 15 years as it was way too expensive there, and the crime was out of control. B.C. has the most expensive car insurance and gas in Canada .
