Do you want to know my personal frustration with much of modern day preaching? This video will not only provide a biblical exposition of 1 Corinthians 2:1-5, but will also show you how many modern day preachers have veered away from God's design and desire for Biblical preaching.

One of the things I love when my church teaches directly from the Bible, explaining what’s going on it naturally ties into today. The Bible is an amazing tool that lends itself to modern day teachings and lessons. There is no reason to “modernize” the word. It’s LIVING- it’s timeless- it’s beautiful

"The true Messengers are never adamant about themselves. They never claim special gifts and powers for themselves. Even their own genuine appointment, if they have to talk about it, they will do so rather reluctantly. They are not dynamic and strong. They do not project their personality in this way. They are not indiscreet. They are not loud and brash. There are so many people claiming to be spiritual emissaries that when the real one appears, they go unnoticed because they are quiet, because they are not loud and brash and indiscreet. They may not gain much attention, for the attention is all being gathered by those who beat their own drum and who proclaim themselves proudly, with great conviction." _The New Message from God » Discerning False Messengers_ - as revealed to God's Messenger Marshall Vian Summers.

I prayed for a home church for over a year. I went to a friend's wedding and the Pastor performing the ceremony was different. As soon as I could, I ran to meet him. I sat in his church the next Sunday and found my home church. He teaches verse by verse. Its made a huge difference in my understanding of the Bible. I absolutely love how he tells people from the pulpit " if you came here to find your best life, leave. " " There are many churches down the road that do that, but I preach the Word of God!" I'm so thankful for that answered prayer. This is a great series.

We have many "Pastors" giving Ted Talks rather than preaching The Word. I'm deeply sadden by the pedestal many have been put on, all the while they're too prideful to admit their wrongdoings. From what I've seen, many churches are being pimped by these people who we have claimed to be ordained and called by God and it sickens men like myself who would rather have a man of character on the pulpit, rather than a man of gifting. Thank you Allen for your commitment to push Gods timeless truth to us, really, your work will be looked upon years to come for those who are hungry for objective wisdom rather than subjective "tickling of the ears."

Anointing vs annoying 🤣 I was not expecting that brother Allen😂 I just wish more pastors would take their Bibles and just do a verse by verse/chapter by chapter study with the congregation. I would like to see more of the gifts of the Spirit in use in churches. There are little to no prophecy, word of knowledge, healings, miracles etc in the church today. I believe this is because people don't pray to God for the gifts. 1 Corinthians 14:1 says: "Pursue love and desire spiritual gifts...". In the early churches the gifts were very much in use.

You will know them by their fruit. Trust no man or woman, but God only. The season is now. May Jesus return soon!! Amen. God is merciful. He always forgives. Never be ashamed to take your failures to him. He is for you, not against you! God is with you in the storm. He knows your troubles, he hears you! He is for you, on your side, always! It may feel silent at times, but he’s holding you close! May the Lord return soon! We are drawing closer. He is coming! Believe and trust in the Lord, you will be saved. Period. May the Lord bless you all! Hang in there family. Stay strong. It is not easy following the Lord. We are scoffed at. We give up our earthly dreams, our fleshly desires. What the enemy offers is short lived, but heaven is forever! Life may seem or be unfair, but God is with you! Always remember that. Things may get better or worse for you, but a kingdom awaits you! Finish the race! Repent daily and carry your cross. This world is fading fast. Your troubles are temporary! I made this channel because I felt guilty for not witnessing enough, I’d appreciate any kind of support. Don’t give up! God loves you so much! So do I. The Lord bless you!!

Matthew who Paul viewed as Levi preached differently. Be careful, we must always be solid and even you give your own opinion as a man on how you FEEL on certain subjects. By discipline through word of God and instruction by the Holy the Spirit Pastors will NOT go astray.

We had an associate pastor at my church, who had a very specific way of structuring his sermons. He would pick a passage, such as the one from this video, and break it down into three salient points. He bolstered them with other Scripture and always gave examples of how it applied to each of us. I never failed to feel blessed by his sermons. He is now head pastor at another church in our denomination as head pastor, I hope they know how blessed they are!

I have seen several of the points you mentioned. My biggest issue with the idea of "modern church" is something that has kind of gone out of style (thankfully) and that is the seeker-sensitive movement. I was a part of a seeker-sensitive church as a teen in the 90s. The leadership was very much at peace with people's sin, but were very threatened by mature Christians. They had a lot of fun activities going for the whole family. They were very laid-back. God was cool. Everyone dressed cool. They had all the latest Christian music in their service (this was the era of 7/11 songs--songs with 7 words that were sung eleven times!). They did skits before each sermon, that were usually parodies of TV shows or something people would recognize and be amused by (like a famous scene from The Brady Bunch or something like that). The sermons were always okay, but ended on a positive note, with no challenge to get right with God. The church wasn't technically unbiblical (their statementof beliefs was entirely based in scripture), but focused a little too much on the positive, and run more on emotions than truth. They would send people out to do evangelism in the community, but their brand of evangelism was inviting people to church and giving people flyers with the church's logo and the pastor's picture. When my parents actually really witnessed to people they met while they did this "evangelism" the pastor was very uncomfortable about it. They also had certain people they wanted in theur church. Suburban families with a two-story house, two cars, 2.5 kids, etc. People who didnt fit this (particularly the poor or even the lower-middle class) were made to feel unwelcome. The summer I was 14, I was helping at Vacation Bible School. The teacher allowed me to teach the lesson one day, and I presented the gospel to a group of second graders. Several wanted to receive Christ. The pastor and leadership should have rejoiced about this, but instead, they rebuked me, and my family was kicked out of that church. My evangelism wasn't part of their seeker-friendly way. Mentioning sin was too negative. That church no longer exists. That pastor eventually apologized to my parents. Seeker-sensitive isn't as much of a thing anymore. I think enough people eventually realized how unbiblical it is to be seeker-sensitive, since no one seeks out Christ without the Holy Spirit, and when they do, only the real gospel, from the Bible, will satisfy. Being pleasant and having fun activities won't cut it. After that very humiliating experience, my family went to the opposite extreme and joined a very traditional fundamental Baptist church, where we only sang hymns and used the King James Bible, and people dressed up for services. I felt safer there, since they were the extreme opposite of where we had been hurt. It felt a lot more reverent. It was a good place for us to heal. To this day, more traditional is my preference, but I've balanced out a little. A church that is truly seeking Christ can be modern or traditional in style.

I have been enduring a great deal in my life, and have been looking for other believers in Christ, who AREN’T flashy, who are humble and who genuinely loves the Lord and who genuinely want to share the gospel. Within the first three minutes of watching this video, especially at the @2:15 mark, I have been saying this for so long. I do not understand how those who profess to have the convictions, those profess to be true believer of Christ, can on a platform, parade themselves, and adorn themselves in fancy clothing, jewelry, and makeup and fancy words and languages, it just doesn’t make sense…it’s very distracting to those who are seeking a genuine relationship with Christ. And the Bible does talk about this but it’s often overlook because of society.

Thank you Pastor! Well here’s my list: 1. I would like for pastors to understand and teach others what worship is, what it looks like, and who it belongs to, so that their members will stop worshiping the pastor out of ignorance. 2. I would like for pastors to stop using other people as topics for their sermons to bash them and point out their flaws. 3. When a prophecy is fulfilled and the beneficiary gives a testimony, I would like to see the pastors stop saying “I told you that would happen, you see, I’m a prophet!“ 4. I would like to see pastors teach, or bring someone who can teach, on all five parts of the five fold ministry so that everyone can grow in the area God has called them to. I’m sick of seeing pastors only focus on the one they think is most important, or the one they know the most about, and neglect the others. 5. I would like to see pastors stop dictating who their members can date, how much money the members should give to offerings and special projects, how many church services the members must attend in a single week, and other decisions that should be guided but not dictated by leaders. 6. I would like to see pastors stop being callous with people that they think rank lower than them in anyway, and showing fake humility to people that they think an opportunity for advancement can come from. 7. I would like to stop seeing pastors try to wield their spiritual gifts like a magic lamp that they control, forgetting that God is not their genie in a bottle. I would like to stop seeing those pastors use their spiritual gifts at their own will, in an attempt to impress newcomers in hopes that they will join the church.

Pastor Parr, This video confirms the experience I had when a visiting church attended my church. This church was doing all the things that you stated in your video. When I approached my Pastor about what the visiting Pastor was doing since it did not sit well with me, he told exactly what you described in your video about how we should conduct ourselves as ministers of God's Word. Some members were attempting to explain the visiting pastor's behavior by telling me that I should only focus on the things that they did well not the wrong things, but I politely informed them that God focused on everything, whether it was right or wrong. So why should we conduct ourselves differently? Once again, an excellent word. My prayer for you and your family is that you continues to you use for His glory.

I left my previous church for a few reasons, some of which you listed in this video. I asked the pastor before I decided to leave, why don't we go book by book in the bible and study each scripture? He said to me that I would not find that in our area. That is my desire. In the mean time I have learned of your channel as well as Cory Minor, Treasure Christ which taught me of Voddie Bauchaum and John Macarthur and there are a few more in the RU-vid Community that have helped me in understanding scripture and studying. Also, Dr. Bruce Logan of Bruce Logan Ministries, here in Warren, Ohio. He is not a pastor but an awesome Bible Teacher and has a very in depth study of the Book of Daniel here on RU-vid.

If only it were that simple! Most of us would walk out of a church from the 1800's or 1700's! The church is just as much a reflection of its times as anything else! Ask the Catholic church how they are doing trying to retain parishioners? They keep closing churches in my area, and we had a lot of Catholics in this area! Because Catholicism as its usually practiced feels old and worn out to many people, especially young people. Its about adapting to modern sensibilities, but not losing the traditional eye on biblical authenticity.

It is true that he will always have a verse or two picked out, but he doesn't exegete passages. He has a topic that he wants to talk about, and he will just grab random verses completely out of context and fit them to what his message is. This is essentially leaning on his own wisdom and understanding instead of appropriately exegeting the Word of God.

Hey Allen. Recently our pastor has been talking about being a young youth and not having a job. I've done casual jobs but I quit them. I've worked at a car wash, hacked clothes, sold food along the road but it never really worked out for me. It's more discouraging than encouraging. I'm now at home still applying for jobs. How he said his words were more provoking than correcting and he knew it because he said it himself "I hope I'm provoking you". We are a small church of about less than 120 members present during church sermons. I don't like that people know my business like this. I know I ought to have a job, but it's hard. I believe God too for a job. I feel like leaving the church 😢and I have a feeling the next Sunday he'll still speak the same thing even when the sermon doesn't relate. Please, words of encouragement 🙏🏽.

Alan, you hit the nail right on the head. The part about pastors not using the Word throughout the sermon is exactly why we've been looking for a new church. We would get a few scriptures, then stories, examples, etc. but NO expository preaching. The other part is fear of offending. That's exactly what's wrong with our young people- no one is telling them the truth and pastors have capitulated to culture in hopes of keeping the numbers and tithes up.

No more living in confusion, no more hoping. If you want to know for sure you're going to heaven when you die, just turn from your guilty conscience. Follow God to the best of your knowledge. So if anything makes your spirit uncomfortable stay away from it. But people shouldn't overthink their relationship, just focus on today. Not all Christians are on the same level but just don't plan or linger in what you learned is sin. The Holy Bible states that anyone can turn to Jesus, even people who sold their soul to the devil, like witches, psychics, sorcerers, satanists, people who participate in witchcraft. But your life here on this earth is the only time you have to make up your mind. At this point, you have to believe Jesus was more than a messenger or a good person. He was sent by God to be Savior of the world and to die for our sins. He was crucified, buried, resurrected three days later, he walked the earth for forty days then ascended into heaven. There were eyewitnesses who recorded events that took place in his life and resurrection. Information concerning Jesus' life and crucifixion was passed down through written history and oral tradition. Ask Jesus to forgive you for every sin you have committed. It doesn't matter how you do it, but just tell him that you repent. You turn from your old wicked ways and turn to him. Tell God that you accept his son Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior... For now on, don't plan or linger in what you learned is against the Bible. Use what you learned so far, and apply it to your life. Once you reach a certain age, your conscience tells you what's right and what's wrong. If you can't picture Jesus giving in/ or behaving a certain way, do not give in. Not every sin will be specifically listed in scripture but you will know when you feel the guilt. To give you a good understanding of what sin is, it's lying, profanity, extortion, threatening, anger, drinking, masturbation, seduction, homosexuality, sex outside of marriage, unfaithful in relationships or marriage, trying to intentionally get high, child abuse/neglect, trying to publicly humiliate someone or put their sin on a stage, fighting, bullying, biased, prejudice, revenge, retaliation, intimidation, harassment, antagonizing, assault, violence, murder, pedophilia, racism, stealing, pornography, sorcery, abortion, encouragement/support for sin, hypocritical judgment and judging by appearance. You can also read Leviticus 20:1-17 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. God requires us to make righteous judgments such as; encouraging people to live righteously according to his commandments and standing up for what is morally right with empathy. And always keep in mind that any spiritual meditation is very dangerous if you're not focused on the spirit of Jesus. Sin can no longer be your intentions. The sin is the act, so when you have evil thoughts running through your mind. Cast it out, meditate on uprightness. But when you do end up sinning at some point, ask Jesus to forgive you. Jesus knows you can be in tough situations that involve sin but you have to come up with a plan. Don't get comfortable in sin and do your best to get out of it. You have to hate sin, continue to fight out of it. Jesus knows if you're really trying, he knows your intentions. He knows if you really hate sin. Forgive others just as Jesus has forgiven you. Unforgiveness will make you vengeful and God doesn't want vengeance in your heart. God doesn't want you riled up over people you have no control over. Don't let people have control over your mind. Forgiveness does not mean you have to put up with people, of course you're going to have to keep your distance because you know what they're about. God just wants you to let go of this grudge, this retaliation, so you can have peace. When you forgive, you're taking a big weight off your shoulders. Forgive and move on with your life. God just wants you to have control over your mind and move on with your life because your anger and emotions can keep you from thinking clearly or making wise decisions. Do your best to stay away from people who you know are intentionally sinning, you can help them but do not come into agreement or follow what they're doing. Do not deny Jesus, don't be ashamed. You might not have all the knowledge but at this point you have to be willing to stand up for him, don't back down. Continue to humble yourself to learn more about God and keep striving to do better, even through the trials and tribulations. Baptism in water is very important, it is an outward declaration of the decision that we have made for Christ. It identifies us with Christ's death, burial and resurrection. But, person can go in the water a dry devil and come out a wet devil. If a person truly receives Jesus in his heart and drops dead before the baptismal service, without a doubt, heaven will be his eternal home. The thief on the cross can attest to that. The only unforgivable sin is never receiving Jesus as savior and Lord. When the bible speaks of blaspheming against the holy spirit, it is in reference to the prideful pharisees who were attributing the works of Jesus to the devil and trying to entrap the lord. It is widely believed and I take this stand also that Jesus knowing the condition of the hearts of those particular men, was referencing them and not all men. These verses of scripture must be kept in proper context. Do not isolate the scriptures, but read the scriptures before and after, know the setting of the verses and know who the author is talking to. Before a man comes to Christ, he is capable of doing anything. To suggest that a person can commit a sin that God is not willing to forgive him for undermines the entire gospel message. Jesus came to save a lost and dying world. God has so much love and compassion for you but he can't accept you until you accept him. So when God judges you, he is not choosing whether you go to heaven or hell because you already made it to heaven based on your conscience decision to follow him. God will judge you based on your works you did on this earth to determine what rewards you will get in heaven. God knows you can do this, your emotions will have you thinking that it's harder than what it really is. He will forgive anyone for anything but they have to truly regret it and want to be forgiven. I know it might feel like God is overreacting but if you just take a look back at all the evil things you did in your life you'll realize how wonderful God is to make a way for you....

I mentioned this to the person who gave it to me and he said it was not until he found this translation that his eyes were opened. Just 2 cents. I do not preach publicly and I am 1 million miles away from being perfect however I do share the gospel as a whisper into those the Lord leads me to speak to in hopes that before their last moment they find God and reach for him to find his hand reaching back.

You got some great points her. I have to admit that calture is a big thing concerning how preachers preach as well. I'm a messianic jew that was born and raised in Israel to a believer family. The church was very solid teaching the word of God. There was not so much place for feelings which in my opinion could be good if there would be.. But I definitely grew in faith there and there was a good balance in teaching between the fact that I'm a sinner that needs forgivness and the love and grace of God. I didn't fell that I left the church with a feeling that if I die today I'll go to hall. But rather that I every day need to confess my sins and God have already forgave me and if I die today I'll be with him in heaven because of his grace. I got married to a Danish guy and we are living now in Danmark. The majority of preaching her is much more soft (in general) most preachers do not want to offend people that come to church and confront hard issues. It results confused children and parents that actually need guidance. Thee funny thing is that the young kids from my husband's side are talking to me about things like sleeping/not sleeping in the same bedroom with their boyfriend.. and they are so hungry to hear the word of God (not my opinion). Also if it's not what they want to hear.. the truth is good for them and not sleeping in the same bedroom before marriage is only going to have a good consequence in their future. I have always missed from preachers that they would be more transparent. When I admit my sin (telling a real story from my life) in front of a young teenage, than she would be much more willing to hear what I'm about to say.. instead of trying to act so holy!
