People that play with a controller, whether on pc or console should definitely go into settings and enable L2+R2 inputs. It gives you just enough button inputs so that you don't have to R1 toggle between cross hotbars in a battle. I'd also recommend to stay away from the double tap toggle option to avoid accidents during battle.
I use both options. I tend to keep my AOEs and buffs on my double tap and everything else on my single press. L2+R2 is for my role abilities, sprint, lb, and potions
NICE LIST only tip i think is important to add is to change the color of your chars name to a slightly more promentant color.. really helps to see how you are posisioned on the battlefield when fighting the boss really helps in the AOE chaos that is extremes savage and ultimate
This is actually more important than you'd realize, often mid-combat in big raids I'm like wait where the fuck is my character. Didnt even realize you could change the color of your name
In the target options, activate both options for Ground Targeting ("Limit ring movement .." and "Press action twice..."). With this you can't move the targeting ring outside the ability's max range and you can also activate by just simply pressing the key bind a second time (no mouse click needed). Those options are relatively new (6.0 I think). Although it says "Gamepad Mode" it also works with KB+Mouse. Makes ground targeting so much easier, especially with Ninja's movement ability Shukuchi.
For RPers and anyone who glam....changing rooms in open world areas like Costa Del Sol would be nice. Also in the Social Tab give us a Address book for our friend's Houses or community Clubs/Cafe's. That way its far easier to know what world....plot and world we gotta be at.
@@viaxon6 jesus christ the edge cases. I would rather LB asap assuming I know the fight, instead of waiting until boss got 1% hp left like the majority do.
I know it's not too much about the video, but the song selection in the beginning is fantastic! I don't know too many people who played legend of mana, and it's so nostalgic to hear one of the soundtracks again.
Thank you so much for that ambient occlusion oddity. Gshade can approximate its own ambient occlusion at a fraction of the performance cost; no need to sacrifice anything. Now I can get my game back up to 175fps to make use of my refresh rate. Felt a bit stupid buying a screen in higher resolution only to find it knocked my frames underneath its refresh rate.
BIG BIG HUGE THANKLS FOR THAT! as a person with ffxiv video in the works, having better fps in the game with pleasant graphics is crucial. its perfect for footage!
Huh. Love how you put Legend of Mana music throughout. Very few people seem to even know what that game even is, while simultaneously not knowing how awesome a lot of its soundtrack actually is.
my biggest QoL tip i can give is "Keybinds -> Confirm and set Confirm to any Keybind of your choosing, with this you can deliver levequests or special deliverys like a console player very quickly this saves alot of time to handover all this gear for gc seals..... default keybind should be NUM0
Legacy controls make playing for all jobs easier. You can freely move around while also looking at whatever you want. As tank you can better face the boss while looking behind you for mechanics. Movement in general is just more free for no consequence. There is no advantage to using standard controls, while there are clear advantages to legacy controls.
@@DouchebagDex Thanks to the both of you for insisting on this! I come from just about every other MMO out there and when I started FFXIV I found the movement to be so awkward...played til end of HW with those settings and now you have changed the game to something I am much more familiar with! Cheers!
It hurt to see “Limit ring movement to target range” and “Press action twice to execute” be shown on screen, unchecked, and not mentioned. 😭 Definitely worth turning them on. 👍
@@DesperiusFFXIV press action twice saved me so much with Shukuchi fast use. Just make a macro of 2 line "/ac Shukuchi" Execute it will instantly shukuchi you into your mouse location, which is infinity useful in any situation
@@Lucyfer1102 Or, if you’re used to spamming each ability a few times, it just works naturally. 😅 But, yeah, both settings are really useful for Shukuchi. The limit range option allows you to instantly teleport to max range as well.
I first heard about the collapsing hotbars from you, and they have been a godsend once I got them set up. I need to take the time to set them up for some other things once I finish up my MSQ.
Instead of that base class hotbar stuff, you can also just use the cross-hotbar for job changes etc if you don't use a gamepad. Makes setup MUCH easier.
I created two simple macros that let me toggle on/off Battle Effects so I can switch them on for smaller settings like 4 mans, or easily turn them off for Alliance Raids. Also, if you want other really good tips, especially for combat-oriented things and how to save Gil, look up Jolsn FFXIV if you have not already. I wish I had known about his video years ago, I would have several million more Gil than I do now and so much more of the combat in the latter part of the game, including solo scenarios, would have been far less frustrating.
I just happened to change the targeting system to the Cone type BEFORE my static progged P3S this tier, and I was wondering why my co-tank was having issues targeting his 2 birds for the add phase. It makes instances like that really easy for tanks to pick up new things that spawn as long as you're facing the mobs appropriately.
@@kestrels.9189 sorry if my comment was confusing; I happened to change to Cone targeting before starting P3S prog and had 0 difficulties tab targeting to my other bird in the fight based on my camera positioning, whereas my co-tank was not using Cone and had difficulties. Told him to change it and we immediately stopped having problems. So yeah, Cone is what I prefer from now on!
@@tetrahedron_in_space I have noticed since my reply and fighting in a dungeon that the trouble I was having is gone. I’m a n00b forgive me, so, this was super helpful!
Great vid as always bro. By far the most useful tools that changed my game experience was collapsing hotbars, gshade and xiv plugin. These combined are a huge improvement. I would like to ask if you can make a video about xiv plug-in. Im currently using only to organize my enemy list and hide some annoying hud stuff, like hp bar, chat stuff and set skill timers. So, what are you using for?
pvp on JP datacenters is instant que from 5pm to midnight JST and everyone gives it their all and generally follow anyone that steps forward with raid wide coordination macros. Its really a whole different pvp game.from EU/NA datacenters.
Been playing since 2.5 and these days I only log in to pvp until I'm bored then I'm off lol, pvp is keeping my sub active. In essence, pushing pvp out the grave, kept me interested.
Better tip for saving you fps, just set your graphic settings to standard desktop or laptop, if you use his method you actually lose FPS when compared to this and it generally looks the same as max settings.
I still think PvP could use a lot of work. The 6.1 rework was evidently balanced more with the new Crystaline Conflict mode in mind than Frontlines. Summoner in particular stands out in this regard, as setting up 2-3 Bahamuts into a choke point or an objective marker in Frontlines can quite literally stop an entire faction in their tracks for the 10 second duration, which in PvP is a long time. Being unable to distinguish between friendly and enemy Bahamuts also does not help anything.
I have macro to turn off battle effects instantly. Especially in alliance raids etc you can’t even see the boss lol it’s so much better having them off for other players.
chat setting on party chat, avoid read any other thing that isnt your own party on fights, i find some sproud having trouble reading instruccions cuz his chat was a mess. get rid of all useless info that spam you chatwindow
I'd say they don't really *need* scope, for what they are. If you think about all of ARR as a tutorial for new people, then the MSQ dungeons [and Cape Westwind being a solo duty] are effectively transitional tools for sprouts to get acclimated with the dungeon updates that the rest of the expansions brought. Think dodging mechs quick, finding safe spots during high-cover mechanics like meteors, tankbusters, and paying attention to the look of boss ability effects to judge where to stand *before* the damage goes out. The story is largely unaffected, all important plot beats are hit, and that section's comparative brevity helps both veteran players want to queue for it, and sprouts to avoid fatigue from how incredibly long 50 levels of ARR feels. A lot of new people used to quit after the part of the story that is 2.0, or during 2.X patch quests, because of how much content there was to chew through. It was sad to watch, because I knew a lot of them were missing how much more engaging every other expansion is comparatively.
Gshade is so great that SE is stealing some of the ideas for the graphical overhaul they plan to put in 7.0. I can't wait! Note that the performance enhancements may not be necessary if you've got a beefy current gen graphics card. I run XIV on a 3080TI with standard maximum without any problems.
FYI the limited battle effect will still hide some useful things. Doton, for example, does not show when limited is selected so as a tank you will not see where a ninja has placed it
@@DesperiusFFXIV unfortunate but true :/ It is possible to set up a macro to toggle this setting between show all and limited on the fly, so one can easily switch depending on whether they’re doing an alliance raid or smaller dungeon
This is 100% false I have played with tons of ninjas over the years with party effects set to limited and have always been able to see ninja dotons asylum sacred soil etc etc just fine
You CAN combine your attacks into one macro with whatever icon you want, but it will not be like PvP at all as the macro version will cycle through all your skills with the time between attacks being longer than the actual GCD, therefore making it not optimal for high level content and removing your freedom to use your individual attacks precisely when you want to and preventing you from weaving in OGCD attacks. There is a way, however, to have your combo attacks function exactly like in PvP, but it would be against the ToS to download XIV Launcher, which does not send any information to the servers and therefore Squire Enix would never be able to find out, and install the XIV Combo Plugin, or even look up the better, or so I am told, Sloth Combo plugin that allows you to add other skills to your basic rotation and essentially turn your action bar into a one-button rotation. But yeah there's no way to properly do it in game, unless you were to download XIV Launcher and copy the link to Sloth combo and paste it into the experimental tab of the Dalamund plugin, which is apart of XIV launcher that I am told, and then download it from the Dalamund interface like you would all the other plugins, which you should not do, but that is neither here nor there.
@@DesperiusFFXIV ya but also the monsters on the edge of my screen 😔 and I play on 32:9 so it's a lot on my screen 😅 probably just unbind tab and use mouse click and nearest target on tab? 😅
Can anyone point me in the direction of the gear piece for his pirate look? Mainly the legs since I am looking to make a tribal glam set and the loincloth look of that piece is perfect but I can't find it anywhere!
people that say pvp sucks didnt want it to become easier, its opposite lol. I refuse to participate in it and play PVP based korean mmos instead lol. Nerfing isnt answer, its making things boring
Video topic aside i think its hilarious people buy 3080 ti graphics cards and there still needs to be setting tweaks lmao how many thousands do you have to spend to not bother
Yeah you are right...Most games a horribly optimized and this won't change with next Gen GPUs unfortunately. There are a couple of optimized games, but then you still get heavier hardware mit Samsungs New Odyssey Neo G8 with 240hz refresh rate on 4k for example. I Think that is part of the High-End Tech Life and it will never change entirely 😅
PvP is more fun now, but it's still filled with scum premades that are accomplished by sync queueing, not only for CC but frontlines as well, which has been an issue for a long time. Basaically, there's cliques who sit in their own discords, consisting mostly of the people you would normally see on top of frontline ratings, they queue together and basically whatever team gets most of them in the same team generally wins due to higher coordination. And that is just a drop in the ocean. Now that PvP got more popular, the amount of blatant cheating has increased a lot. It has always been an issue in things like the feast, but now it's even worse. And I'm not only talking about high rated CC. Even casual matches, frontlines, and low rating CC. If you play PvP consistently you will start noticing things like auto action executions, such ninjas automatically gibbing you the moment you drop below certain health tresholds, your CC getting instantly removed or shielded, or several people somehow perfectly coordinating nukes and CC's the moment you get dragged into right range or use your LB or something, some people somehow being faster than others, or CC mysteriously failing to affect them. It's so blatant, it's disgusting, and the most ridiculous part is that it's not exclusive for high rated pvp, which means they're literally doing it to salvage their own pathetic ego's rather than tangible benefit. And squeenix is too busy banning people for "lewd" (using in game glams and camera angles) adventure plates to actually do shit that matters such as banning cheaters and legions of bots who are ruining the market for years, it's pathetic and what's even more disgusting is that there's basically zero uproar about it, because people are too busy kissing squeenix ass for every minor thing they do while the pvp scene goes to flames.
you have to understand that they cannot go into peoples pcs to scan for said programs that help the cheaters on pvp. They are usualyl using a 3rd party program to do it and that would be that they simply would have to ban all 3rd party programs. Think about the implications for that since they haven't' been specific on what would be considered a 3rd party program. Its honestly a lose lose situation for them :(
