A quick stopper idea. Foam ear plugs work really well to stop stitch loss when traveling with Dpn. You can push more than one needle into a plug at a time.

I got fed up with buying stoppers that wouldn't stay on, too. I cut up a few little pieces of foam insulation tape, or stuffing and trimmed them to be the size I want and then just stick the ends of the needles in and THEY ARE GREAT!

So many great tips. The best for me is "using bamboo needles". I never got beyond casting on because my metal needles kept slipping out of the stitches. Frustration made me give up. After using the bamboo I was able to use all of your other great tips. You are a true teacher. Thank you for all of your videos. ❤ 🐑❤

Thanks so much for another great video regarding double pointed needles. You are amazing in the concise way that you teach. Plus, your sense of humor is priceless. As I think I told you before, I have been a knitter for over 50 years but never mastered the art of the dpns. They just seemed too fussy and awkward, so I never stuck with it for long. You have helped me so much. Once again, thanks much.

Thanks Sharon! I really appreciate that! DPNs definitely *seem* fussy and annoying, but as with all things knitting, once you get the hang of it, it's really not that hard, and it actually ends up being totally invaluable!

I was always intimidated by dpn knitting. Confusing mess of 4orc5c needles🤔🤔. I thought crazy people use this method when circulars have been invented. But then I watched ur videos.i had one thin dpn set I used only to pickup stitches. I gave it a try and viola!!!! I did it. I found it relaxing than doing magic loop. Am I crazy??? 😜Despite dpn all awkwardness I ve found the start of dpn is little simpler than starting magic loop. Now I m ordering bamboo dpn.... Knitting is an expensive hobby these days. Be aware all you beginners!!! Thanks Davina for teaching me this clever ancient skill.

Hi, Miss Davina, I am bothered with DPNs especially when you've already worked up. The needles with live stitches are so cumbersome. Thus I'm wondering if you can demonstrate where each needle top and bottom ends should be placed so knitting with them is just flowing not getting in the way with your hands or fingers. Thank you for all your hacks and teachings. More power to you 😊

I've been knitting for 50 years and hated dpn's for many of those years till I discovered bamboo. Stitches easily fall off of the plastic or metal needles which was what my local yarn shop carried back in the 60's and 70's. I'll find a new use for the nasty ones. :)

Here's a MUCH better way of keeping your stitches from coming off. I saw it on a site years ago. Fold all of your needles together so they're flat....just like a pencil...then taking the working yarn and circle the one end of all of them (which are now together) and do that a few times and then just take the yarn to the opposite end and do the same thing. Then you take the yarn and wind it back and forth between the two ends to finish it off and you're done! It's fast, it's secure and it's MUCH LESS TROUBLE. Stick the bare unused needle through the knitting fabric and you're good to go.

Thanks! This was yarn that I dyed myself with a mix of blue, black and fuschia as an experiment. It might look metallic-y because the yarn base is fine merino, which has a bit of shine. When I dyed the yarn, I was basing the color off of an existing yarn by Malabrigo called Violeta Africana. You can take a look at it here: www.loveknitting.com/malabrigo-sock?a_aid=22ca8fee My dyed color is not a perfect match. It's a bit darker than Malabrigo's. Anyway, thanks for watching!

What's the difference in the result for purling and knitting?
@gayathri8823
@gayathri8823 6 лет назад
An easy way to distinguish between knit and purl stitches is to think of a purl stitch as a 'backwards knit stitch'. When you knit in the stockinette stitch pattern, you're knitting the right side rows and purling the wrong side rows, and if you look at it, the right side rows have little V-shapes all over them while the purl side has little bumps. This is also why stockinette stitch curls naturally because the knit and purl stitches aren't balanced on the sides. When you work seed stitch, which is alternating knit and purl stitches, the garment lays flat because the knits and purls are evened out on both sides. When you knit every row, for garter stitch, the knit stitch rows are shown in between the purl stitch rows. You might know all this by now, since your comment was posted a year ago, but I thought I'd tell you what I know about them. :)

Kathy...me TOO!!! However, I figured if anyone else can, so can I. So I put the "fear" away, and just dove in. The trick (?) is using that 4th empty needle (I thought you simply used the 3). Play with it on something easy and unimportant...but important enough that when you get it, you can proudly finish and use (or gift!). Hang in there...don't give up. I crochet and sew much more than I knit, but I love the fabric knitting makes!
