I so love you two for covering the general things that visitors need to know as well as the specifics to a particular area. For instance, after reading British mysteries set in London and its many boroughs, I had the impression that the Isle of Dogs and that area was run down. In one video you were explaining about the regentrification happening in the East End, etc. Very helpful for my mental landscape. Thanls so much for your fun filled facts and straight talk on how to get around! Cheers. : )

Nice job on this one. Really good tips. One thing I'd add is to look up on the National Rail website about "rover tickets" and "ranger tickets" that offer unlimited train travel under specific rules and conditions depending on which one you get. So for example there's one called the all line rover that gives you either 1 or 2 weeks of continuous unlimited use of the entire British national rail network (except some trains like peak time Virgin Trains). It might seem pricey at face value but if you're going to be going all around Britain for a couple of weeks, then it might be cheaper and way more flexible than dozens of single tickets.
@MattNav
@MattNav 6 лет назад
Plus some rovers can have railcard discounts applied to them to save even more money

I agree. Helps you also to avoid mishaps like the one I encountered. See my comments above under the video. Was put on the wrong train. Returned back to where I started. Then had to repurchase all over, again --out of pocket. No refunds were given.

Great video! My partner and I had trouble with finding space for our large luggage on the train while we were travelling around the southern UK. Is there space for larger luggage at one end of a train car, and is it safe to leave it there? We ended up shoving our luggage into the seat beside and it definitely wasn't ideal, but there wasn't anyone to ask.
@ThoseTwoBrits1
@ThoseTwoBrits1 6 лет назад
It depends on the train company. For example South Western Railways don't have space for large luggage annoyingly but Great First Western, or Southern Rail do! So it really depends.

Funny story: Too bad you two were probably in grade school when I last visited the UK. When I was there almost 20 years ago I was supposed to go and meet some friends of friends in Teddington. I think I was staying someplace close to Regent's Park. The hotel gave me directions how to take the Tube from the hotel's area over to Victoria Station. Obviously, not knowing where I am going or what train to take I ask the clerk at the ticket counter at Victoria Station which way to go. A kind and 'knowledgeable' secondary staffperson directed me which train-track to go to. So, I did. After about an hour of travel I realized I was going no where near Teddington but was in fact headed stratight to Liverpool, instead. Needless, to say I had to get off the train. Go to the opposite side and reverse my way back to Victoria Station. The attendant on the train must have radioed back into Victoria that I would be returning because when I returned and got off the train; the same 'knowledgeable' attendent that 'helped' me in the first place to take the wrong train was dutifully waiting for me by the tracks as I exited. The person stood there with a very sheepish grin on their face!! Only drawback was that I could not get a refund for being put on the wrong train. :(.

I actually needed to turn the handle but didn't know so I was looking for a button or something which I could open the door by. I didn't want to miss my station cos I'd heard that meant I'd get a penalty. Someone helped me in the end. It's a good memory now.

Yuck, Popchips. They're gummy and they get stuck in my teeth. Though, that dip looked pretty good.

Wow cool tips. On my first trip to the UK (2004) I used nothing but trains (Glasgow, Edinburg, Manchester, and Brussels thru the channel tunnel and then on to Germany) and the tube. My second trip (2016) busses (so I could shoot thru the window) and I rented a car, which I drove up west coast to Skye stopping everywhere in between (a very interesting drive… set your GPS nav. to "avoid motorways") and down the east coast. In So. Cal the trains a great way to avoid traffic and idiots, but they are not very fast, a trip to see my family just north of Santa Barbara from LA takes nearly as long as my London to Glasgow trip in 2004, the view of the sun setting over the pacific are spectacular though.

Wow that's crazy! A trip across one state is as long as our entire country! haha!

Plugging hair straighteners into the train's power inverter is an absolutely stupid thing to do. Appliances with heating elements can draw thousands of watts, whereas a laptop draws less than 40 watts, and phone/tablet/iPod/gaming handheld chargers etc even less.

The car is a victim of its on success due to congestion making trains the more convenient means of travel.

Like you actually need tips on how to get on a train. You pay & then get on the freaking train, only the British need help with such things 😅

I'm sorry to tell you guys that the sound of the video is really bad, you can hardly make out the words owing to the ambient sound. Could you make another video on the same topic without so much noisr, please? Cheers...
