Just excellent channel. Many many thanks to you! I run a Garmin gps 60. It's now discontinued but is very similar to his etrex in function. I prefer entry level or close to it bare bones simple gps. My last was a Garmin from the 1990s! The higher priced units have more bells and whistles but I never use anything but the basics for hiking and geocaching. I'm into primitive camping as well off trail so I only need simple reliable functions and accurate keeping of waypoints.
Recently bought a garmin etrex h on ebay...thanks Lyle you have bought the garmin to life, didnt understand what i could do with the gps by just reading Garmins instruction manual, i hope they are giving you a fee. Starting to enjoy the great outdoors...worth knowing :)

Thanks for the educational video, it is helpful for me to learn my handheld GPS. But my question is that, how can you input a given UTM value, to find the point?

Is track back a straight point to point or includes all zig zags from when u first left from point say A . From when u first mark Point A then walk the 8klm's. Do u mark in Track my path from point A /
I have the Garmin gps 60. Not exactly like the etrex H but there should be a function to show your actual footprint path or a direct path. Also switching back to compass navigation will lead you in a straight line to any of your way points. You can also erase or switch off you walked paths and only show your waypoint if you are perhaps in the bush just needing basic navigation back or to a point. How to get to the right menu option will be in your owners Manual. Trust me, take an afternoon and work through your owners manual. Not everything is intuitive to use but it's there.
