I agree. If you didn't want me extra fat don't come looking for me when I'm regular fat.✌🏽

1. I don't ask people how they lost weight. Don't check online, how celebrities lost weight. 2. I never talk badly, about my before self. 3. I don't erase my heavier past photos, on social media, and/or photo album. 4. I'm hesitant to give time to people, who didn't have time for my before self. #relatable 5. I don't take before and after pictures.

I’m happy for you and I I really appreciate your thoughts, especially rule 5 about before and after pics. The realization about projecting on people based on their size is profound. That was a word I needed to receive! Body positivity is hard work, just as much work as you did to release the weight you didn’t need. Kudos to you for glowing up on your own terms and mad respect for your vulnerability! I just subscribed because of this video!

Thank you so much for this video Cece! I think the reason why I was so uncomfortable with how certain influencers’ documented their weight loss is because they suddenly became very negative towards their bigger selves, or focused a lot on their new dietary plans. I suppose nobody should *have* to censor themselves on their own platforms due to other people’s sensitivities, but it’s inethical (in my opinion) to have such a large following of people who struggle with their bodies and pushing that kind of message. I feel like some influencers (or people in general) take this criticism and turn it into “they’re just jealous they couldn’t lose the weight”, which is a totally unfair conclusion. I appreciate you admitting that body positivity isn’t black and white- we are constantly unlearning old habits and thoughts related to diet culture and fat shaming. Your honesty and thoughtfulness is worth its weight (no pun intended) in gold ❤️✨

I relate to this in an interesting way. About 15 years ago I lost a ton of weight, and changed a lot in my life. It was all at the same time, so yes I have always assumed it was all synonymous. Now, going through some trials, I’ve gained all that weight back. After keeping it off for so long and being used to seeing and being a totally different me, I am struggling in all the ways you described. And I think that is what is holding me back from life - literally life. It’s all so hard and complicated, but your words here - not only could I relate - but they’ve got me thinking about some new perspectives about my whole history with my body and myself. Good stuff, subscribed, thanks for having me!!

I LOOOVVEEE these videos SO MUCH, appreciate your vulnerability and honesty! I have been attempting to deprogram myself for some time now and I struggle with CONSTANTLY pushing against the acceptance and endless celebration of diet culture! I do my very best to not participate and/or redirect the on-going conversations of diets and weight loss [it feels impossible to avoid, especially when the majority of people I work with are women] I have noticed time and time again, when a group of women get together the conversation is quickly reduced to how they want to lose weight, what they don't like about their bodies, what they're eating, what they're not eating and how horrible they are for eating [insert "bad" food] and their celebration on avoiding or changing their bodies so they don't look like mine! [Because being fat is the worse thing you could possible be...right?!] I have lost 80 pounds through a certain diet [which makes me feel like a fraud and a hypocrite for even following the diet]. I don't talk about the diet that I'm on and I don't discuss my weight loss with others. I do not congratulate others on weight loss or even comment on other people's bodies....period! I have also stopped saying "Thank you" when anyone says, "You've lost weight, you are looking good" because I feel like accepting that means that I am co-signing that my bigger body looked bad! I want to lose 20-30 pounds more, not because of an "ideal" weight [because to get to the "ideal" weight that the bull shit BMI suggest, I would need to drop another 80 pounds] but because I know it would impact my health in a positive way and I would feel better physically. However, I still have to fight HARD, that inner narrative of, "Thin is better, skinny is more desirable, being smaller will make you happier [which I know it doesn't] and the most intrusive thought of.... you are not attractive if you are fat" *Sigh* It's ALOT! I DO NOT know how the hell to lose weight and not fall back into that toxic mindset of attaching my worth to it! The struggle is fucking real REAL!! Thank you for these videos.....keep them comin'!

Cece! I so appreciate you working through this in real time for all of us. It is a struggle because our whole lives the association is made-lose weight to be acceptable and accepted (loved). And later when you start to realize that you want to deal with it to live a healthier life, those old hobgoblins are right on your tail and they muddy the waters. I know for me I feel like the belief that losing weight is required to be lovable is the exact reason that losing the weight has been so hard...if that makes sense. Thanks again for this conversation ❤️✊🏾👊🏾

Thanks for being so vulnerable. I was thinking about the last time I lost weight and felt great was when I did your 30 day program. I was wishing I had it still then I realized that it wasn't just the program alone that helped me lose the weight- the support helped, but I still had to be disciplined and do the work myself. So now I'm rewiring my thoughts about weight loss, discipline, and why I was so successful that particular time. Anyway thanks again for everything! I love these videos

You know what Love? I’ve been subscribed to you for some time now & I love how honest you were in this video. I’ve gotten to the point in my weight when I take pictures for my site & IG , and get frustrated because I don’t see myself in them anymore. I can truly understand how difficult it can be to be a body positive influencer & know that you need to lose weight for your personal health. I am right at that point & I’m nervous because I don’t want to feel bad about myself now. I’ve made it too far in my mental health to do that to myself again. I’m so glad you made this video. You have set some standards I can use to make sure I don’t glorify the “I’ve lost a significant amount of weight” self, and put down the person I am today being at my heaviest. Thank you 🙏🏾
@thegirlof1983

My biggest issue with BP, is that in some areas of it, you can’t be honest. You don’t have to hate yourself to lose weight. You don’t have to ignore the obvious health risks or issues to be comfortable and love yourself at your current size. It’s very much this weird space where fat women (mostly) SAY they love being fat while secretly stalking weight loss blogs and posts. I love that you are speaking out about your experience with getting healthier. I agree with all but 4. Even fat women don’t want fat men a lot of the time. Why are we surprised when people are more attracted to us thinner?

Whew...when you said that you’re working hard to convince yourself that all of these wonderful things that are happening aren’t a result of your weight loss...that hit me in my soul Cece! I’m in the midst of following God in a serious life change and I find myself struggling with needing to look a certain way first-as if God’s plans can be diminished by how I look! Get over yourself Shinia! And yet because I’ve been programmed to believe that a girlBOSS looks a certain way...I doubt myself often. Thank you for helping me see that whether a 28 or an 18-the struggle to love yourself and be gracious with and to yourself remains.

@kmichel2797

YES to all 5 of these rules! I'm not "there" yet, but I'm on my way to being a healthier me, whatever that looks like on the scale and I've definitely struggled with the whole asking other people what they did, watching hours and hours of youtube videos about how ppl lost weight, etc. I'm doing what works for ME and physically it's been going great so far. But mentally, WHEW CHILE is a different story. I constantly have to check myself when thoughts that "I'll be better, more attractive, more lovable, etc when I'm smaller" fill my mind. It's almost like I'm expecting to enter into a whole new world just because the size of my jeans will be smaller. Writing this out, it's so clear that those thoughts are absurd, but when they flood my mind, it's so hard to set them straight, especially when society and a lot of people around me tend to validate those thoughts with their words and actions. It's a slippery slope for sure, but I'm slowly learning what it looks like for me to be trying to lose weight and be body positive at the same time.

Cece all 5 points are very relevant and oh so important. Something I had to do was unfollow so many pages that had to do with excersise but none of the bodies were like mine and those bodies were possibly NEVER going to be what I want my body to look like. So even though they videos were educational they were not for me bc the only made me feel bad and sad about myself.
@kmichel2797
@kmichel2797 5 лет назад
YESSS! I used to follow so many of those and it made me sad because I realized I didn't have the same body shape as them and therefore would never look like them. But now I realize that I don't want to look like them. I don't even care about the number on the scale all that much either. I want to be healthy and feel comfortable in my body whatever that looks like on the scale and in the mirror and it probably won't look like every other fitness account on instagram.

I have been following you since 5 years ago Cece and I am so proud of you. I believe it is your essence that has brought you success. Regardless of your weight you have always been candid, relatable and sincere and your efforts in what you do has paid off and I believe it will continue to pay off. As for your weightloss, there is a saying as above so below, as within so without. It means our outside environment is reflected by our inside environment. When you were at your heaviest, you were probably clouded and "weighed down" (pardon the pun 😉) by certain issues. Now that those issues are released leaving you lighter internally, the Universe has inspired and lead you to find the eating habits as well as exercise routine that will help you to release the weight.
@wonthefight

I agree with point #4. Anyone who viewed you differently when you were heavier, should not be apart of your present. I too am plus size and my weight and size varies by 2 sizes. Engage and go where you are celebrated. Like in the bibke, shake off your boots and keep it moving. God has someone better in store for you. You are very wise, I wish I had your wisdom when I was your age. I look fwd to your helpful exercise modifications. You rock!

All of this!! For most of my life, even after losing 100 pounds, I would take before photos so compare to the after of whatever new thing I was starting...so many before pictures... Because I've learned to be kind to myself and not make a big deal about gaining or losing weight, observing without judgment, I no longer go too far in an unhealthy direction these days. I also stopped weighing myself years ago. It felt like I was using the number on the scale to validate me. Whenever I felt good and liked what I saw in the mirror but the number on the scale didn't look like I expected or wanted it too, I would be deflated, which is just crazy! Anyway, please keep these coming!!

I'm in the same boat as you. I've lost weight and regained so many times. Right now I'm the heavy Amy. I'm so tired of the struggles I have every day. I'm actually on a medical leave for a total knee replacement at 49. That's what years of being over weight will do to you . Congrats in your weight loss. I hope you have better luck on keeping it off than I did. I truly think you will. You have given me new hope to keep trying and to be the best version of myself no matter what the scale says . I'm want to start living that life today. Thank you.

Okay, I don’t comment much but I’ve been following you since you were a size 28, so I’m going to tell you what I’ve seen occur. You and your business partner worked your asses off to make CurvyCon work and now, after YEARS of work, it is thriving. You had a real health scare and decided to commit to a healthy lifestyle and after MONTHS of hard work, you’re in better health than you have been in years. You had a vision of this new space that you live in for YEARS while you lived in the old space. You worked hard and sacrificed to get to a place where you could afford it and now you live there. You weren’t a size 18 when you did those things. Sis, you did all of those things when you were a size 28, 24, 22, and 20. You’re just seeing the results of your hard work at size 18. And as for men who didn’t have time for you when you were heavier...aren’t you looking for a life mate? Someone who will have your back when you’re down and when you’re up? Someone who will be there on your bad days and your good days? Someone who will sit by your hospital bedside if, God forbid, you fall ill again? You already know the answer to this one. Go ahead and fill in the circle with your No. 2 pencil and move on. Great content as always.

CeCe thank you so much for sharing this and offering such interesting words of wisdom. So much of what you said hit close to home. I loved how you touched on not asking people how they lost weight ( I have been guilty of doing this) I think it’s nosy and depending on how or why they lost the weight can be triggering to discuss it’s just as bad as asking someone how/why they’ve gained so much weight. I also agree with you about not dating people who weren’t checking for you prior to weight loss. I use to be so guilty of going after guys who weren’t checking for me but only gave me a chance because I bought up how i was “losing weight”. It never panned out because they weren’t interested in “ Fatter Roxie” they wanted “ Skinny Roxie” who never emerged. I also agree with before and after photos. For ME I am at a point where I am cool with looking at before and after pictures when it’s someone I don’t know personally but if I know them I find nyself getting very triggered. Idk why but I do. I am slowly working on this.

Thank you so much for not posting before and afters. I got through phases where I am okay with them, but right now isn't one of them. Before and afters are basically immediate unfollows right now. On number 4, I think your decision is completely valid. If someone wasn't interested in you heavier, why should they get your time now. However, it may be important to consider if the other changes you have gone through as a woman might be the reason they are interested now. You've done all these impressive things, grown as a person, matured, and maybe those other people have too. Maybe they used to be shallow, felt intimidated, or were just going through their own shit. Some of them may only be interested because you are smaller, but I think that mentality might be selling yourself short, you are more than just smaller, as you said it is the least important change you have made. Whatever decision you come to on that matter, will be the right one, I just wanted to give an outside perspective.

I admire your openness and vulnerability. I think your rules reflect a sensitivity and understanding of the impermanence of our bodies. We gain and lose; we age; we evolve and all of these things are simply a reflection of our outer image and not our inner being. Please understand that there are some people who have struggled with EDs, dysmorphia and shame who simply can’t engage in any kind of weight loss talk. For them, it’s about their mental well-being and some of those people have followed you because you’ve been a beautiful anchor in a sea of chaos. You may lose those people, not because they are haters or anything but simply because they have to protect their own health and well-being. At any rate, I think you’re a phenomenal woman and that you have greatness in your bones. Wishing you the very best.

I understand your philosophy on not wanting to share what you eat because we’re all different, but sometimes, for me, I love when people post recipes. It can be healthy or not healthy, I just find sharing recipes, inspires me to try new things or to get out of cooking ruts. Maybe that’s something you will consider in the future. I’m not dying to know what you eat so I can lose weight, I’m just looking for people who I enjoy watching and I share common interests, so maybe we’d share similar cooking/food ideas as well! Thanks for listening!

I definitely agree with number 4 from the perspective of needing to know that my partner is going to be committed to me at any size. When I first started dating my husband I was recovering from disordered eating and the smallest I’ve been as an adult. I told him that I could be any size at any time and that I’d only seriously date someone that received this well. Since recovering I’ve gained 70 lbs, then we got married. For reference I fluctuate hugely but always somewhere around and including being plus size. Also, I’ve been wanting to comment that I think identifying with having a history of disordered eating has a big effect on not wanting to associate with weight loss. For folks like myself who have been very restricted in the past and post recovery gained weight, it seems hard/impossible to marry recovery concepts and weight loss. Love this video! A few things....it is ok to celebrate achievement...including weight loss. If not for the way you "look" but for the way you FEEL. Its a result of hard work! I know how it feels be be a thin version of myself, although I'm not that version currently. You're right, there are a whole new set of opportunities and challenges ahead when we shed some weight and don't have the heavier version to "blame"it on. Also, you can be empathetic to your loyal fans and plus size audience, without being apologetic for your accomplishments. I have been apologizing and "downplaying" my whole life.....enough of that noise! Lol. I love your honestly and transparency. Love watching you. Thanks for sharing. Don't ever stop!

I think that beauty and health are basically two different things that get conflated. They intersect and intertwine, but you can't necessarily track health by appearance. I hate when I see something like, "She's not thin enough to be anorexic," as if you can look at someone and know if they're starving themselves. Or as if starving themselves is only bad if the viewer thinks it's unnecessary. If your goal is to be healthy, then like you said, it's about practicing health, not the weight. Weight is probably best as an incidental goal, not a primary one. It's better to track exercise goals (how many times, how long, what you can do, etc.) and healthy eating goals than calories and weight. If dieting doesn't work, and lifestyle change is necessary, then trying to lose weight is counterproductive. You need to try to build the lifestyle you want to maintain. It can be helpful to know that kind of change helps you lose weight, so that you can trust changing your focus. But it's a huge difference to say, "I want to be a person who exercises 4 times a week, who eats processed food no more than once every two weeks, and who rarely eats meat," than to say, "I want to weigh xxx pounds and be a size xx."

I love your videos always very inspiring and informative. I guess I'm not all in on the body positive wave I started following plus size influencers because I loved the fashion and blogs about living and loving yourself while plus size. I would not want to be a part of any movement that would want me to be unhealthy to remain a part of it. I had to lose weight because I was UNHEALTHY and wanted to live!!! If that is not others story GOD BLESS YOU and I pray it never is. I support everyone's decision to do what is right for them and what makes you happy. Keep pushing and thriving GOD bless you.

I am digging your 5 rules. I would love to see your video for excercises for bad joints and back. I love the positive attitude you give in your video. What I have learn thru my 60 years is that if you don't love yourself, it is hard to attract someone who is going to love you. As for the person who didn't get into you when you were larger, it is their loss. I would ask him why he is interested now....just to get a feed bak, and honestly tell them why you are not interested. Should that stop you from being friends? I really don't think so..... I am digging my S.A.D...status.....Single And Divorce....LOL. The bottom line is, don't settle.....Keep on projecting your love of life and put it in the Universe. It will come back to you. Be bless CeCe!

Very interesting video. I’m happy for you that you are reaching your health goals. Intentional weight loss is a slippery slope in the body positive space. But I really feel that you loved and respected yourself at a larger size. I love that you don’t do intentional before and after pics! Who cares? Right? It’s really crazy how much diet culture is engrained into us. It’s hard to not think if I’m smaller I’m better/ more attractive. That’s what we’ve been sold since birth pretty much. I ❤️your honesty in this video. You admit you are having some trouble with the whole body positive concept in itself. I feel the same way. It’s a work in progress! Look forward to following your journey!

I am definitely not body positive enough to post before and after pics. I have them, but I won’t post them because I don’t want to hear anyone say how much better I look. I don’t need their validation and my happiness is not contingent upon their approval. I had an ex who asked me to do this to motivate others and I felt like it wasn’t to motivate others. It was just something else to give him more social media attention but that’s a story for a different day.

I gained 50lbs between meeting my husband and marrying him and I was already plus size when we met. I have never for a second doubted his love and commitment. I’m now in the process of losing and still don’t doubt. Marriage is literally about being there through thick and thin so I would recommend not giving time to someone who didn’t ask you out when you were bigger, how would you ever be confident in their commitment? Sorry, they missed the boat on someone fabulous

Do you think plus size women are more attracted to straight sized/“average” men? I’ve noticed that most plus women typically date/marry men that aren’t plus. Definitely not saying plus women and men should only date each other, but I do find that interesting. It almost makes body positivity come with conditions depending on gender. Can you make a video discussing that topic (I hope this makes sense) 🙏🏾💛

I've had the same experience as Cece. I'm also plus sized and I'm mostly approached by average and slim men. It's very rare for me to be approached by heavier guys even though I am attracted to them. It might be a good idea to talk to guys to determine the actual answer. I suspect that heavier men are not attracted to their female counterparts. I mostly see them with women who are comparatively much smaller than them.

When you got to 19:23 I said..yup...the rules are in place like a kind of caveat for just in case you go back to 'fat'. So these are the rules I am living in. But love...be you..He is doing a new thing and I am glad you can feel it!. Weight loss and weight gain is triggering for all of us for different reasons depending on the reasons we gain and or lose weight. Funny thing is when I lose weight and people say how great i look I always ask outright....so i didnt look great before?😂 I check them right at the door cause I'm not having it. I stopped asking people how they lose weight too as I have been learning it's a numbers game....gosh i just put all my thought into one huge ball of a comment that i hope will somehow be cohesive😂😂. ❤u loads and keep telling your story.

Hey Cece, oh i have so many thoughts on all the rules Great video. when you mentioned you don't talk about your diet i agree with that 100% every(BODY) is different . Regarding before and after photos for me its not harmful but I know everyone has a different perception of how they see those types of photos. And I can understand why in our social media obsession of perfection we have ideas of what that looks like for ourselves. it can be triggering and harmful. It's all honestly about learning how to deal with all these things while being on this life journey. I wish we can have a face to face talk about these things lol but this is great!

You know, I decided I was going to stop feeling bad about my weight at the age of 15. I embraced my own beauty, and never looked back. BUT, the fact is that humans are more attractive when they look the way they were designed. Being morbidly obese is not the sum value of any individual, by any means, but to be fair to men, an obese woman can be beautiful to look at, good company, but not sexually attractive.

But isn't there some truth to how people perceive fat women? Opportunities are more abundant when you're smaller. Doors actually do open for a lot of women once they lose a significant amount of weight. Especially with dating. The options become endless. So although being body positive for yourself is awesome, there are advantages to losing weight to get where you want to be professionally and personally.
