I'm a casual fan of this channel, but holy canoli talk about nitpicking. The REAL downsides to this beautiful machine is that there's no spare tire, no center console to store valuable items, poor cupholder placement, rev hang, and a small trunk opening. Next time please focus on flaws that actually negatively affect drivers who own the car, not flaws that only car reviewers notice!

Small correction: the F-chassis M140i, M240i, 340i, and 440i came with the B58 and had the option of a stick. However, you're completely correct about the changes Toyota had to make. The F-chassis cars used the pre-technical update B58. The TU included a change from two-part timing chain to a single-part. (To avoid confusion, I'll add that both have 2-row chains). This change in timing setup, due to the timing system being attached to the *back* of the B58, means that a pre-TU manual cannot fit on a TU motor due to its bellhousing. However, the GS6-L50TZ fitted on the Supra has the same gear ratios as the GS6-45BZ fitted to pre-TU B58s. This likely means the S6-L50 uses the gears and guts from the S6-45, fitted to the S6-L40 case.

I have a 2023 A91 6MT. I can live with the negatives. Such a fun car in manual.

I really don't understand why people hate the BMW thing? Your getting BMW build quality with Toyota reliability and Japanese styling. To me it's the perfect mesh... But I also own a BMW and love their platforms. I also own a 350z and C5 Corvette. I'm always torn as to which is the best the 335i or the 350z. Seems like the supra is the perfect mix of eastern and western design philosophy. Can't wait to get mine in a 6 speed

I've been shopping C6/C7 Corvettes but my main issue with those is I'm too tall in the torso to fit comfortably in those cars. I tried one of these on an at auto show last week assuming I'd have the same problem, but I fit in that car perfectly. It's on my list now.

I see part of this was filmed at Road America. My favorite place to go several times in the summer. The car looks fun too with a manual transmission.

You said bmw doesn’t have a stick with the b58 which you are incorrect. Bmw 340i from 16-18 came with manual option and those come with b58s

I don’t think the hype has even remotely gone away for these cars. I have been on a dealer list for literally a year and haven’t been able to get one yet. Also, a lot of the autos and manual 2023 Supras I see are marked up about 10k nationwide. Some are listed at msrp, but not all.

What a beautiful color! Don’t care for the wheels, somehow the design make them look small compared to last year's. Would love to trade mine in for a stick. An interesting fact on the automatic which frustrates me a couple times a week, the ZF trans. cannot be put into neutral with the engine shut off. No one can give me the reason why. You literally have to Jack it up, crawl under, and use a special tool on the trans. Frustrating when I want to move it only a foot or two in my garage without starting it to access something.😮

I do love how Toyota owners look down on bmw. Like it's a slight disappointment this is a bmw. BMW sitting around thinking that they were high-end sports luxury.

Picked up a CU Later A91 in October and love it - the only thing that really bothers my is the lack of Android Auto

I'm late to the party on the MK5 but it's grown on me, especially since the manual came along. I'll admit I was jaded at first because I come from a MK3 and 4 background. I've come around and I'm considering buying one of these.

I am only buying this car because it is a BMW. I love Toyota but they couldn't have made this car this good. The B58 is a master piece. That's my opinion.

Dude I just bought a 2023 Z and boy you're not kidding about the clutch feeling weird in first and second, it catches wayyy to high in my opinion but I also got my performance Z after tax for what this thing starts at so it really does make it hard to compare to compare the two

Actually the M240i has a manual transmission option in some markets. So it’s not the first time the B58 has had a manual.

While I agree overall (though also wish Toyota did more with the powertrain, they obviously can make legendary engines etc) I do prefer Lexus interiors, for instance, so I think Toyota could have done their own on that and done better. But hey, the exterior is dope (though again, the concept was better in the front fenders) and better a mish-mash Supra than no Supra lol

The reason people don't like that it's BMW instead of Toyota is because Toyota is known for reliability. BMWs however are known for expensive repair costs... More of a rich person car than a sports car for the average person.

I dont get the hate for the mkv supra, i guess people are just salty they dont get a 2jz to stick a massive turbo in it off the bat.

I think people are more disappointed at not getting a Mk4 (2.0) that's 100% Japanese. Toyota simply didn't have an inline-6 but the choice from BMW seems to be a good one. I would drive the Supra in a heartbeat but I have a good coupe

I’ve only driven the auto slowly around a lot but the level of difficulty for getting in was a huge negative imo (and i have an na miata). Also the fact it’s a BMW when one of the main reason I like Toyota is their reliability. We had a brand new one come in losing a ton of oil. This was in 2020 though so maybe theyve resolved these issues. Honestly, I’d rather get a GR86 (yes ik the hypocrisy cause it’s a subie). If you have money for a 3.0L supra, $30k price means more money for track days, tires, mods etc… Its slower sure but I bet the boxer motor will be less problematic in the long run. Plus slow car fast builds driver mod. The Supra would be more of an advanced drivers car.

its not iDrive 7, its only iDrive 6!!!!!! which is very old already, there is nothing wrong with the iDrive6 its just that it doesn't have lots of features and almost nothing is customizable

You are wrong. It’s not a BMW chassis. The Z4 and Supra was built on totally different chassis. Due to Germany laws, BMW couldn’t share all products with Toyota. Toyota designed their chassis and body in Japan while bmw did theirs in Germany. If you watch the video on how the MK5 started you’ll see they are more different than what people think.

The thing is the new Supra is faster, and cheaper than the MKIV was when new. It just wasn't in the first Fast and Furious lol And this thing costs $12,000 less than the equivalent Z4.

They had to have the height "an inch" -- because they want you to 'upgrade' to the carbon fiber wheels -- and they're awesome; it drops an inch, is lighter, tighter, and even faster. Let me hear you say ... upgrade!

Recently rented a 2022 on touro and I gotta say its more comfy than a luxury compact sedan. It's so comfy and stable that you really can't enjoy the car. The car felt so digital and electronically enhanced that I couldn't see myself enjoying this car more than my Boxster. What a great package for under $60k and a future classic for sure.

Imo. The tech in the Supra isn’t that bad. Assuming majority of people are coming from Toyota tech. Which is hella dated. But you don’t get all The features unless you go premium.

People being dissapointed that it's basically a rebranded BMW shouldn't be dismissed like that. Sure it's a great car, but when you're after a Supra, you're after a Toyota sportscar, with the Toyota design et reliability, which it seems you're not getting with this car.

Dude, where are you getting your info from?? I went from an 09 135i to a 2017 M2401 that had a B58 with a 6 speed manual.. At least pin a post saying that info was incorrect.

I wonder how the clutch and transmission hold up when modifying the car. REALLY want to get a manual, but I also will be doing a decent amount of mods so that'll play a factor

I just love the car overall. It was my first ever car and I’m 21.

Mixed feelings on the car...not to be that guy but at the end of the day it is a BMW. Don't get me wrong, it's a very impressive and fun looking car, I'm glad that the Supra was finally brought back to the Toyota lineup, especially in manual form. The only problem I have with it is that BMW make cars that have a reputation for being great for a while, but after 5 or so years of wear and tear a ton of problems surface and the price of fixing the car is more than just buying a new car.

I really like the exterior. But when you get in, you are greeted with that ugly truck looking steering wheel and that big round center and logo. A supra badge would be nicer. The digital cluster looks so cheap looking and the center info display need to be wider. An optional xdrive AWD would be nice also. I don't mind people saying it's a BMW, that would be a compliment for me if I own one. But not the other way around. Remember Lutos with an Izuzu badge on their engine? That was a letdown. Used to drive stick when I was younger, and it was fun. I will stick to automatic and the four banger. 6 cylinder if they come out with AWD. That is if I'm going to buy one. Thanks for sharing. Overall, it's a good-looking car with a powerful engine to match it.

C'mon, no one with half a brain really thinks that over the long run, this will be as bulletproof as a Toyota/Lexus. Let's get THAT out of the way, immediately. If you're going to daily drive this car and pile on the miles, consider selling it before it 60,000 miles or 6 years. Now about the looks...ah, no. You can get a FAR better looking Litus Emira for about $40k more. It has a Toyota engine and transmission and the suspension and steering feel are two steps above any Supra.

After driven a friend of mines Supra and seen countless Supras, honestly in my opinion I like how it looks when it first came out. BUT, of course I have to say (and I won’t be the last to say this) I don’t like the fact that it has a BMW power train and BMW interior. Call it what you want. Say whatever you want. I don’t really care how fast it is, how easily it can make power, or if it’s two car companies working together, but it just doesn’t stick to its roots. The car doesn’t speak for its name. Sure it handles great. If I wanted a car with a BMW power train and interior, I’d get a BMW. Maybe an M2 or M3. Plain and simple. After driving one, i don’t feel like I’m driving a Japanese car. I feel like I’m in a high class luxury car lol then when I get out of the car and look at it, I’m like “wow, I was driving a Supra? Didn’t feel like it.”

They designed the MK5 after the 4th gen Honda Prelude widebody kit. The Prelude and Supra has that V shape hood bulge. I don't like the info screen above the dash, hate electric parking brake, and I hate the front nose and hood bulge, I hate the ducktail spoiler. I would rather buy a new Miata. Horsepower is over rated these days. A sports car needs to weigh under 3000 pounds so it will stop quicker. A F1 car is under 1800 pounds with the largest brakes that fit. A F1 isn't about horsepower, but power to weight. A lighter car takes corners faster than a heavier car. A RWD Porsche is 2800 pounds with 600hp 6 cylinder turbo pump gas, and the Z and Supra can't hang with it at all. The Miata is faster in corners than the Supra.
