A 5-year-old girl sat in the front seat of her school bus and grabbed her rainbow unicorn backpack as the bus pulled up to her house Thursday afternoon.
Her mom was walking out to meet the kindergartener when the bus stopped and the doors opened. Just seconds after the bus’ doors opened a car sped past the bus as the 5-year-old was on the steps.
The kindergartener only noticed the car when it was right in front of her, her dad said. Her bus driver saw the danger just in time and grabbed the girl by her backpack before she could step into the path of the car.
Her mom watched in horror as her daughter narrowly avoided being hit by what Manlius police later discovered was a gold or tan Toyota Camry. Manlius Police Capt. Jeff Slater said the model is between a 2007 and 2011 Camry.
Police ask that anyone who recognizes the car to contact them at (315) 682-8673 or tips@manliuspolice.org
