This is how people get bored of games. People say "don't waste your money on useless stuff". But it's cosmetic and that's what makes the game cool fun and interesting there for drawing more people to the game. Just chill. Have fun. But to have loads of fun. Work is needed. But balance your grind. All I recommend is that u save gold at an early stage that's all. Be smart and have fun
I guess "save these 50 things for last, unless you really want them" wasn't as snappy a title as "you MUST avoid these things". But it would have been a better title.
The horse lantern makes it HARDER for me to see things in the distance... like that fence or tree I'm about to ride into. It's only useful in a tunnel for about 5 seconds until I'm out the other side. I hate the horse lantern. Eagle eye is the way to see in this game.

I have to disagree with the purchase of the advanced camera. I use it for filling out the naturalist compendium. You can use it on your horse unlike the normal camera.
I regularly use melee weapons when doing stealth stuff for bounties, especially the throwable ones As for the collector map, I recommend setting it to show all items that aren't random (tarot cards, alcohol bottles, heirlooms and eggs). This way you're not wasting time getting items that aren't guaranteed to complete a collection in one day
One time on a mission I had gotten very low on ammo and my aim had decided to die all of a sudden (I was distracted by something) so I whipped out my hatchet and killed about 10 enemies with my hatchet alone.
I find binoculars to be quite useful for hunting and scouting enemies. The hammer is also very useful for bountry hunting, since it knocks enemies out.
I'm gonna disagree with you on the herbs one. Ginseng can take forever to collect as they typically spawn only one in any given location, and are far apart from any other ginseng spawns. I like to restock on ginseng at Madam Nazar, craft a few medicines right there using my wilderness camp, and then when I find ginseng on my travels, I can pick them to top it off. If I need to make large batches of tonics after a 5 star legendary bounty mission, this is the best method to restock on ginseng. It's cheaper than buying tonics, and much faster than riding all over creation to source them for free. Just think of it as part of your operating costs. The sooner you can get back into money/gold earning activities, the better.
The legendary animal pheromones only work if a legendary animal has spawned in, they help you track them longer before they disappear versus not using them at all which may give you a shorter time to kill/sample them.

This is a list for very beginners. Im a level 360, gold 1293, & $54013.61 and i have & brought over have of these things and they are very useful. You should only avoid them if you barely play the game. But if you play or plan on playing the game alot you need most of these things. Or youll be playing forever in a day to get something extremely easy to get.
Refined Binocs are awesome. I use them all the time for hunting. Ride up a hill and do a 360 sweep. You'll see dozens of animals and then can ride to a specific one. Once you've upgraded to use eagle eye while riding on horseback, you can use them for the Condor egg challenge. I'll also use them to scope out other player's activities, names, etc. and to examine objects in the game in super high detail (like newspaper articles, books, photos, objects, etc.
To me the animal revivers, blending tonics, and hardy tonics are not a waste to buy because they are needed to complete naturalist role challenges we occasionally get, which pay gold. In that instance its worth buying them, although I really only stockpile them whenever they're on discount.

This game has a lot of options, and I feel like you should spend your money on whatever catches your eye. If you like the criollo horses, get a god damn criollo. If you don't want to take the time to craft a million miracle tonics, just buy them. A useless item to him might not be useless to you. I miss the days where I could spend all my money on stupid things and then work all day for more money, just to be able to spend it all again. If you're a new player, buy what you want, and save for what you want, cause in the future you'll have more money and more gold that you could ever spend.
Regarding meat, a neat tip for beginners is you can lasso many of the larger wildlife from horseback, then, assuming you lasso them close enough and/or have plenty of stamina, you can pull yourself in, then you'll have a prompt to kill the animal with your knife. This method is great if you run out of ammo, and/or don't have the weapon required for a perfect kill, as this method preserves their hide. So if you ever find yourself without ammo, as long as you have your lasso and stamina to spare, you can kill an animal, and process it for meat and/or sell it to a butcher to get some ammo money.
The refined binoculars have helped me to find treasure chests in remote locations, also i have often used emotes around other players. As for melee weapons they get used by alot of players including me, and tracking arrows are useful for finding escaping bounties while I'm busy looting bodies at a hideout. I also buy collector maps from Madam Nazar, as that's how the game was intended to be played, no wonder Rock* gets pissed with the community. Weight loss tonics come in handy for a quick fix too, I'd take this dudes video with a grain of salt.
Honestly this video is very subjective depending on how long you’ve been playing this game, if you’ve put days and days into it and ya wana buy a nice lookin belt buckle, go for it, obviously if you’ve just started out in the game then buy everything that’s actually gona help you play better.

I got over 2000gb now and 200k cash despite this. I have fun battering npc's with a hammer, so I'm not about to let this guy tell me it was a pointless purchase 😂
I've been playing for a week and a half and so far i've wasted 12 gold on cosmetics, 4 for my bounty hunter hair and mustache style, 6 on my bounty hunter gloves, and 2 on a bandana, and to be honest, looking cool is one of the things i like the most in this kinda games, so i think its all about your priorities and playstyle.
7:14 I use melee weapons all the time, they are fun to use and I even use them when people challenge me to feuds and I’m winning by a lot. They are also useful for stealth with the throwing knives and stuff
The pocket watch gives you the "check time" emote, which illustrates you're getting impatient lol. And the advanced camera you can walk while aiming which can be useful snapping pics of legendaries, unlike the default. That's probably already on here but yeah. They're not entirely without their uses XD

Hair pomade does NOT grow hair...it styles the current hairdo that you have. It can TOTALLY change the look of your hair with whatever style you pick from there barber. It will last for 3 (real life) days when you apply it to your current hairstyle.
When you have a lot of money it is better for you to buy tonics from the catalogue as opposed to buying herbs or gathering them and crafting the tonics
Why though? Why not just take a little time to gather herbs? I personally want a lot of money on me at all times, and I avoid buying things that are free because of it. Also, why even buy snake oil when its on NPCs everywhere?
The hammer is the most fun weapon, it does the least damage other than fists and it’s the biggest flex to beat someone to death while using slippery bastard.
the pomade isn't used to make hair grow longer...it's supposed to slick it back, it actually improves a good bunch of the hairstyles in Red Dead Online. for example get the Windswept hairstyle and then use pomade, it's like an entirely new style, isn't it?
Premium cigarettes are a waste of money, in single player they give you cigarette card's but in online there no difference between regular cigarettes and premium cigarettes in online
I use mele weapons all of the time for bounty missions and when I want to be stealthy, bows and arrows don't always work and meme weapons kill instantly when you stealth kill.
Legendary animal pheromones (LAPs) don't attract legendary animals. They only work AFTER you see a golden ? on the screen. At this point, you can throw down a LAP and it will show you the exact location of the animal (the ? only shows there's something in the area). It's helpful for some of the more deadly animals, but yeah, not a necessity.
I think you confused hair pomade with hair tonic. I personally use hair pomade often during rdr2 online, it's not meant to make your hair longer, it's meant to slick it back and style it. I personally like the look it gives and it lasts a few hours before having to reapply, not to mention it's very affordable price
Basically what this dude is saying is: Do not have fun, be completely productive and do not buy anything that you want because it isn’t used for grinding.
Hair promade is actually useful in online for certain hairstyles. There's a specific hairstyle that looks messy without it and it's braided with the promade. Not a big deal, but it's worth knowing.
@@nameynamename3758 Unless you have a hairstyle that uses it. There are several styles that uses it. Some characters have long hair and the hair promade fixes the hairstyle after it gets messed up. Similar to story mode. I've used it on several hairstyles myself. So I guess you're wrong.
There is a free pocket watch West of Van Horn, in an abandoned house. You have to climb a wagon, jump on a roof, and enter through an open window. The watch is in one of the drawers in the room. It is exactly the same watch you can buy for 1 Gold Bar.
Good to know! As a very low level player, 37, I’m constantly grinding through stuff so I can buy upgraded weapons, stirrups, etc. Now I can add looting the watches to sell to a fence. Nice!

Plenty of players treat RDO as a rat race and get burned out quickly. All I'll tell you for now is that you can get a free Bounty Hunter role if you link your Rockstar account to your Amazon account and have Amazon Prime, even the 7 Day trial will work, and you will get the role. And another thing is 10 free gold bars by setting up 2-Step Verification thing on your Rockstar Account. Apart from that, just have fun and learn on your own.
The legendary animal hormones dont work like that you need the popup to appear in the top left of your scree say "legendary animal near bye" then you use them.
OH! Fun fact, you can find the pocket watch FOR FREE in one of the buildings in RDO as loot. I wont spoil its location as the treasure hunt for it is rather fun, but I will give a hint: You have to climb up into a window to get to it.
I agree with most of this from a technical point of view but a useless item varies greatly from player to player. For example, I'm always a role player in just about any game that allows it. That ugly rope holster looks great for my "Last of the Mohicans" character. That 1gold bar mustache is perfect for my "Doc Holliday" character. My point is that roleplay gives the game longevity and when I get bored with one characters play style i swap to another play style. I wish I wasn't forced to use a gun belt. I just want to use a bow and rifle for my Native American character. Anything that cost gold like weapon metals and hair should be a one time buy in fee. Pay with gold the 1st time then use cash everytime after.

Pocket watch is good just as a collectible,tracking arrow pamphlet to craft tracking arrows for daily role challenges “use a tracking arrow on a bounty”,same for blending tonic pamphlet. These are better than donate 20 carcasses in 10m and track 3 bounty targets
It can be used for daily challenges but there are much easier daily challenges not to mention how many parcels that Rockstar gift and Outlaw Passes, it's easy to stack up on tracking arrows, blending tonics etc without buying them but have way more than enough to complete them as daily challenges once or twice a week
20 carcusses in 10 minutes is super easy. Keep all the squirrels, toads, rats you kill jn your inventory. I don't go out my way to kill them, just do it when I come across them. When we have the donate in 10 minutes, just donate all the small animals saved in the inventory. On busy days where I only log in for keep my streak. I loved seeing that as one of the dailies. Takes me 30 seconds.
I know this is an older video but still relevant, hair pomade simply slicks your characters hair back, you're talking about hair tonic in the vid, hair tonic increases hair growth speed and it's not in rdo, so hair pomade is a useful item if you want your character to look that way
I use these tips too avoid buying useless things and the money saved goes too bounty accumulated when I decide too just mess around and run a muck in the towns
I own most of this stuff and enjoy them. Its about immersion so when the players see me on a hill looking at a camp with my binos they can be more immersed. Like me lol
Great video. But my dude, poison arrows are only pointless if you don't like perfect cougar carcasses. Seriously, absolute best ammo VS any predator is by far the poison arrow.
I actually use the poison throwing knives to one shot any animal I don't want to ruin the skin or pelt of, and occasionally to one shot melee kill npcs with.
honestly, there’s not much content so spend your money on what you want as long as you have the ability to make it back. i have a majority of things in the game and have as much money to spend willingly
