As a Swede, I am perhaps a bit spoiled. Three things must be present if I am to enjoy living in a country. -Fresh drinking water straight from the tap. -I can flush the paper down the toilet after going to the bathroom. -Nature that is accessible to anyone anywhere at any time.

And thank you for the romantic movies filmed in Sweden by German TV station ZDF under the name "Inga Lindström" which my mom likes a lot. Thank you for SAAB Aircraft Industries for building very safe and reliable civil aircraft in the 80s/90s still flying over us nowadays.✈ 🇸🇪👍

I have experienced this, seeing my country (Iceland) through the eyes of a visitor. To me, it was all hum-drum, nothing-special - until my "visitors" explained that an erupting geysir, an erupting volcano, a raging blizzard and the Aurora Borealis are quite special for people. To me, these things were just part of nature, to be endured/enjoyed as appropriate.

You mention at the beginning how dark, cold and windy it is in Sweden and it's hard. BUT we in Kiruna have polar winter during December, when the sun shines and the days are short. We enjoy from January onwards, when the sun starts to shine again in Kiruna and the bright days get longer and longer. V We celebrate this by having the snow festival at the end of January, as well as knowing that the beautiful spring winter will soon begin, when the sun shines and we go out into the forest or to the banks of the river. Where we scoop up seats, put the reindeer skins on and a little further on you make a fire to grill and make coffee. You sit and sunbathe and then enjoy, many like this as the sun reflects in the snow and your face gets tan faster. Those who go to the river beaches take the opportunity to pimple (ice fishing). So up here we see everything this time with joy and not like in the south with being depressed. Some inventions that Sweden is behind. It is the Swedish game developers who created the 3D games as well as how real games look today and Sweden is a leader when it comes to becoming game programmers, so people come from all over the world to Sweden to become game programmers. 1958 - Rune Elmqvist develops the implantable pacemaker and on October 8, the first specimen is operated into a human. Gideon Sundbäck - the zipper It was a Swede who invented the shape of the Coca Cola bottle. There is much Sweden has invented and Sweden is at the forefront of technological development. It is up in Kiruna that they develop the robot dog that has been developed, to be able to be sent in where there has been a race in a mine tunnel. it has cameras in its head that allow you to examine what it looks like inside where it has collapsed and this so as not to have to send in a human who risks his life if there were to be a new breed. The big modern technology that is best known in the military world is the Swedish submarine that is invisible to the radar, it is not a small one but a fairly large submarine that is manned with people, where you live and cook and then it handles the military tasks . It simply cannot be found when underwater. Inventor from Sweden Alexander Samuelson - The Coca-Cola Bottle. ... Alfred Nobel - The dynamite. ... Anders Wilhelmson - Disposable toilet. ... Anna Borgström - Refrigeration technology. ... Anneli Hellström - Nicotine-free snus. ... Barbro Hjalmarsson - The Sink and the Cradle of Blood Triomix. ... Birgit Johansson - The buoy ring and the fairway marker. ... Björn Jakobson - Baby carrier. There are more.

@@LivingSwedish A few more Swedish inventions. So now you see what Sweden gave the world. 1864 Alfred Nobel constructs a working igniter cap. 1874 Carl Daniel Ekman succeeds in producing sulphite cellulose. 1875 Alfred Nobel invents explosive gelatin. 1877 Gustaf de Laval manufactures a hand-operated separator for milk. Then further inventions The Pacemaker. ... Spherical ball bearing. ... The zipper. ... Tetra Pak. ... Development of the telephone and the switchboard. ... The steam turbine. ... The separator. Change the key Temperature scale Celsius The safety match The dry milk The Aga lighthouse The refrigerator The three-point belt found in all cars. Spotify - Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon (2006) The primus kitchen - Frans Lindqvist (1888) The bolt scissors - Jonas Byman (1890s) Brandy on potatoes - Eva de la Gardie (1748) The Respirator - Carl Gunnar Engström (1950) The Screw Propeller - John Ericsson (1836) Lidocaine for local anesthesia - Nils Löfgren (1941) The blue lamp - Carl Nyberg (1882) Skype - Niklas Zennström (2003)

A tip and maybe to add to the list, we have a great history in both litterature and films going way back. For you and your kids maybe Astrid Lindgrens books and the films made based on them might be good as a start, easier to understand what they say? They can still be entertaining to adults as well I think, many of our great actors played in them (and some german?). 😀

Oh yes, I used to watch them in German when I was a child. Everything is dubbed in Germany but it's time I watch those films in Swedish. Great suggestion, thank you! 😊

@@LivingSwedishYou're welcome! Then it will maybe both be a bit nostalgic and weird for you to watch them in their original language now. Here we dubbed the german actors that played some parts (some of the films were a collaboration with Germany I think). Really hope you and your kids will enjoy! (There might be subs in swedish if that also helps to folllow along). 😊

It is allowed to hike and also to camp on someone's property, but not in someone's garden, nor so close to someone's dwelling that it disturbs them. Alleman's Right is a rather complicated law, but what you roughly need to know is that you must leave nature in the condition you found it, that you can pitch a tent but that you can only stay in one and the same place for a couple of nights, if you are a larger group you must ask the land owner for permission (say more than 10 people), there are also exceptions to these rules, for example in some nature reserves you are not allowed to camp at all, or on certain land owned by the military you are not even allowed to be. When it comes to picking berries, fruit, mushrooms, nuts, and flowers, you have to check a little more, you can pick most but not all, there are certain protected species. If you want to fish, you have to check even more closely, then a fishing license is required in some places while others do not. crossing a field is also more complicated as you must not destroy the crops, so a rule of thumb is to go around it, although sometimes it can be perfectly fine to cross it, paddocks with animals in them, you cross at your own risk but you must not disturb the animals, the rule of thumb is well if you can get where you want without crossing a pasture then avoid crossing the pasture. As I said, the law is sometimes difficult to interpret and is based more on common sense, most landowners are also friendly people, but I'm sure there are the odd ones that you can run into, the worst that happens (if you don't obviously have destroyed nature) is, however, that you then have a discussion about whether they or you interpret the law correctly (but as I said, that is if you run into a very grumpy landowner, which most of them are not).

A few movie suggestions. Most of them a bit old, I expect others to add newer ones. Mannen på taket, and Mannen från Mallorca. A pair of action movies from the 70s and 80s. The Sällskapsresan movies. A series of comedies about Swedes going on holiday abroad. Drömkåken and Strul. A pair of comedies with Björn Skifs. Jalla Jalla The Jönssonligen movies. A series of comedies about an incompetent criminal gang that always cream of the BIG one... Frostbiten and Låt den rätta komma in. A pair of vampire movies, of which the first one is a lot more conventional than the second. Fucking Åmål, Tillsammans and Lilya 4-ever. Three masterpieces by Lucas Moodyson. The first two are very heart-warming, the third one is deeply disturbing and unsettling. Leif. An absolutely hilarious film about the weapons industry.

When it comes to Swedish films, there are absolutely those that are very good, but there are also a lot of really bad ones. But will mention some good ones: Gräns: ( You won't have seen anything like it, drama/fantasy/with a little bit of horror. ). Änglagård: It is difficult to find someone who captures Swedishness as well as in this film, quite strange considering that the director is not even Swedish, Comedy, Drama. Ove: A really funny comedy with a lot of the Swedish quite cynical humor in it, Comedy/Drama . Fuckin Åmål: ( Strong teenage drama from the 90s really captures the time and what it's like to grow up in a Swedish "håla". drama/high school movie. Den enfaldige mördaren: A strong drama about greed and human desire, it was the role that made Stellan Skarsgård internationally famous, drama/feel good ). Jägarna: Strong Thriller with a lot of nerve, Thriller/Crime. Ondskan. A strong drama, drama. The Square: Ruben is the Director working today who is best known in Sweden, mixed languages, drama comedy. Scener ur ett äktenskap: Old movie but still worth watching A strong drama, drama. Det sjunde inseglet: ( Probably Sweden's best-known film internationally, it's old now from the 50s, but still worth watching, drama/fantasy ). Män som hatar kvinnor: The film adaptation of Stig Larsson's millennium series. Crime, Drama, Mystery. Låt den rätte komma in: From a very popular Swedish book, Drama, Fantasy, Horror. Lilja 4-ever: Very terrible and powerful film, drama. Så som i himmelen: Very nice and captivating, Comedy, Drama, Music. Ronja Rövardotter: Astred Lindgren's best film adaptation for children, but also worth watching as an adult, adventure, Drama, Family, fantasy. Emil i Lönneberga: Maybe a bit more of a series, but available as a film with shorter episodes again based on Astrid Lindgren's books for children but also fun for adults, as well as very picturesque environments, family, comedy. Vuxna människor: Very sarcastic humor, comedy. Snabba cash: Maybe the closest you can get to an action film in Sweden, we rarely make such Action, Crime, Drama. Kan du vissla Johanna? A very sweet short family film, family. Turist: Ruben is the Director working today who is best known in Sweden, mixed languages, drama comedy. Tic Tac: A low-budget film that came in a wave of when a lot of such films were made, but this was probably the best of them, Drama, Thriller. Sagan om Karl-Bertil Jonssons julafton: Shorter TV movie | Animation, but for both adults and children, has a sense of morality that is very Swedish (there is a new non-Animation version that is not as good), family. Tillsammans: Funny, different and very Swedish, family (slightly older children), comedy, drama. Persona: A Thriller that still holds up even though it is from the 60s, thriller. Zozo: One of the few war films made in Sweden, War, Drama, Family. Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann. Something of a Swede Forrest Gump a little more ridiculous, a little funnier, comedy. Mitt liv som hund: One of Lasse Hallström's best films, takes place in the 50s, very feel good, drama, comedy. Skånska mord - Hurvamorden: Include this one because the cast is so amazing, which makes this otherwise fairly ordinary reality-based crime thriller fantastic. Smala Sussie: Comedy with a darker undertone. Comedy, Crime, Mystery. Lust och fägring stor: A lustful one, Drama, Romance, War. Jalla Jalla: One of the best low budget films, funny and silly, comedy. Mannen från Mallorca: The film that started many Swedish crime series. Still exciting and one of the better crimilnal films still. Chrime, Action. En sång för Martin: A film you are touched by, which addresses an important topic, Drama, Music, Romance. Stinsen brinner: Theater/film from the 80s, very well-known comedy group in Sweden somewhat similar humor as in fawlty towers, comedy. Körkarlen: Very old silent film, if you are interested in film technology and how advanced it once was in Sweden, the film is worth seeing, otherwise it might feel too old, rama, Fantasy, Horror. Häxan: Very old silent film, not something you look at in a dash but watch it in the background when you have a Halloween party and it sets just the right mood. Sånger från andra våningen: more of an art film but worth watching, drama, comedy. Vinterviken: From 2021 is a romantic drama (there was one made in the 90s too which is not as good). Jag är nyfiken- gul: One of the films from the Swedish sin period, an interesting time document on how Sweden became so famous for being the sea of sin. They were well ahead of their time considering that this wave came at the end of the fifties in Sweden. Drama. Pleasure: Challenging film that raises an issue that few takes up, drama. Tårtgeneralen: Feel good movie based on a true event: Comedy, Drama Yes, there are more, but there were a few. Of the films I think you should see and which are good.
