"5150" - Van Halen Live in Tokyo Feb 1989 

I’ll argue this to my grave, this right here was the pinnacle of Van Halen. Sammy brought so much to the band, amazing vocals, and everyone genuinely enjoyed what they were doing. This band will NEVER be replicated, I’m eternally grateful that I got to experience the entire Van Hagar era in all of its magnificent glory!!

One of the most underrated songs of the Van Hagar era.

I’m in my 60’s and have been lucky enough to see Van Halen 6 times both with Dave and Sammy. I’m now turning my grandkids on to VH

Possibly the greatest riff of all time! :) Man, they were at the top of their game here!

Musically I don’t think there is a better Van Halen song from any era or decade than this one.

This is the one song that captures everything good about the Van Hagar era. It's a perfect song.

I got this show on VHS tape back in 1990 & this is the cleanest version I have seen! Happy anniversary 5150!!!!

Eddie Alex and Michael and Sammy were absolutely hands-down in their prime during this time. You could tell they enjoyed what they were doing, and he couldn’t wipe that smile off his face during the whole show. I love this era of rock ‘n’ roll music. Best times of all. Rock ‘n’ roll comes and goes, but it will never die… We love you Eddie

It's long overdue to give the Sammy era a deluxe reissue, there's obviously some fantastic live recordings that could go with it. I'm sure it's up to Alex at this point but maybe it's too late. Man I loved the 5150 era

That solo is so surreal it honestly brings tears to my eyes. One of the greatest things ever to be captured on film. Eddie was able to demonstrate what it means to be a human. Period.

My favorite VH riff. Raises the hair just like the first time I heard it when the album dropped. Back when kids had new music to look forward to. Man I was so lucky to have been a teenager in the 80’s. I really do feel sorry for these kids today.

I remember in 1990 going to a record store in Staten Island and buying a bootleg VHS copy of the Japanese TV broadcast of the entire concert, complete with commercials. Watched it over and over. Amazing performance.

I was fortunate enough to see the original lineup of VH in 1984, and then seven more times up until 2015. Videos cannot convey how good they really were and how incredible it was to actually watch and hear Edward play in person for 1.5 to 2 hrs. 👍🏻😎

Loved every minute of that concert!! I was a senior in HS. Went to every VH tour since Sammy joined. Just saw Sammy and the Circle at The FL Strawberry Festival ( Mike knocked it out of the park with Ain’t Talkin Bout Love….Still rockin’. 36 years after reinventing VH!! A true testament to the longevity and relevance of a Great Frontman that shares the stage with his band mates and the audience. Hope to see you at your birthday bash!!

I listened to Van Halen since I was a little kid in the early 1980s. Eddie inspired me to pick up a guitar. Sammy is the best singer they had, and Michael Anthony defined the VH vocal sound across all singers. I bought the 5150 tape when I was like 8 years old from a music store at the mall under the World Trade Center in NYC. I regretfully never got to see Van Halen live. Ever. I wish I could turn the clock back and actually go see at least one show from this timeframe. These were the best years. 5150 is my favorite album of theirs. But the whole catalog brings back so many memories from my youth!

This was VH at their peak for sure. Sammy hitting those crazy high notes and all over the stage, Ed is fired up and smiling ear to ear 4:50 loving every note, Mikey moving around like he's in a bouncy-house and hitting that insane note at the the end 5:55, and the look on Alex's face 6:09 sums it up. Rock & Roll Synergy at its highest.

That is a 1 great high quality video.. 5150 is a great song .. very oriiginal .. and some great riff changes... Eddie sounds great .. and looks he is on top of his game here.

I LOVED this version of VH. I saw multiple shows at the Centrum in Worcester MA. Off the charts!! The fun these guys were having wasn't faked as far as I could tell. Alex was just killing those drums and the energy was crazy. I'd give anything to see this live again..👍 When I heard that VH teamed up with Sammy, all I could think of was "Why didn't this happen sooner!"

My God, man. I remember this coming out when I was in college. It was one of the first CDs I ever bought when I got a CD player. And, it was a CD I kept in my car when I got my 1st sports car with a CD player. Friggin top notch rock music to cruise down the interstates, not to mention have at parties, jam solo air guitar at home by yourself, or about any other occasion that calls for the best rock. Great video drop! In doing some comparisons today, this upload looks MUCH CLEANER than previous uploads of this concert. Also, this version has Sammy missing a few high notes compared to previous versions ( which is totally okay-it's LIVE and raw, like it should be ). Finally, Edward's guitar sound has way more " meat " to it in the mix. And, Mike's bass is more prominent as well ( especially during Ed's solo ). Makes me wonder just what is hiding in Sam's/Mike's/ Van Halen's vaults ( haha )!

Good times! They sound awesome! I saw them on every Sammy tour sometimes twice. What I would give to go back to these days. Love U Eddie!

Vintage, raw, live rock n’ roll! No backing tracks here. 5150 was my favorite album cut on 5150. While I enjoyed some of the keyboard driven songs, Eddie playing guitar from end-to-end is always a real treat. RIP Eddie. Long live VH.
