Update: As of March 2023 the NGT PRO is no longer imported into the US by Genuine Scooters. If you're looking for a very similar scooter, check out the NGTS Sport from NIU. That has taken the place of this model in the US but is almost identical in ride experience.

Max speed for sport mode?
@quadradomus
@quadradomus 3 года назад
@@alfredorojas4764 about 45 mph. Of course a little dependent on rider’s weight etc. I am 220 lbs. on a flat road I can hit 45 mph. The point is though that you really can go anywhere you want in an urban environment, if you just find an alternative route to the freeway. Find all the normal roads with speed limits less than 45.

Nice POV. Here in central Florida, speed limit signs are apparently ornamental, so I think I'd want at least a 150cc equivalent scooter but I can see it in some smaller communities in Florida for sure. Of course I'm not entirely sure the video is real. The last time anyone saw the sun in Portland was in 1932, an event so traumatic they called it "The Great Blinding".

Shame they had to fit that battery into the underseat storage. I see the built in storage as a major plus of scooters over motorcycles. I hope after a few more iterations they'll fit all the batteries under the floor and restore that storage space. Thanks for the review.

Love the video. You missed the perfect storage place for your breakfast burrito. The bottle holder/cell phone/wallet storage spot by your left knee is the place I'd keep a burrito while riding. I wouldn't recommend this but with the connected front and rear brakes you can ride one handed while munching a burrito or similar breakfast food.

I have been riding one of these for 2 years now. I have done 21,000 km or 13, 000 miles if you prefer. The ride is still as good as it was when new. My battery condition is at 77.9 having had 221 charge cycles. The roads in my city are fairly bumpy and this resulted n a stress fracture on the frame mounts for the licence ( number ) plate hangar as it was waggling up and down a lot ( I will have to get that fixed as I am out of warranty ). Overall I am quite happy with my puchase. I bought the full height windshield. This offers superb protection from wind and rain but when it gets cold and humid it's prone to fogging and the full height screen blocks your view completely under those conditions. I would recommend a mid height screen that protects your chest and that you can still see over the top. The bike carries two people comfortably and although is slower doesn't feel like it's struggling unduly. That bosch motor has a fair amount of torque. The indicated speed is a little high but only by two maybe three miles per hour . Mine does an indicated 47mph when doing 45 in reality. It's a stunning little town bike and paired well with my R1100RT which I have been using for longer distances.

@@VespaPortland _Maybe over time those will come down in price._ I'd say unlikely. According to the USGS, if the demand for batteries goes global, there is only about 16 years of readily available lithium left to be mined, and after that, we'll need a crap-load of oil to get at the other stuff. Also, making lithium batteries is an environmentally ugly afair.

@VespaPortland
@VespaPortland 3 года назад
A gas scooter would probably be a better bet for food delivery. One tank of gas is gonna be under $5 which is covered in one delivery and you get nearly 100-120 miles on that tank. Plus if you’re low you can fill up quickly and still finish the food delivery instead of having to charge for a few hours.

Is a motorcycle license required for this? What about insurance?
@VespaPortland
@VespaPortland 2 года назад
In Oregon and Washington you’ll need a motorcycle endorsement on your drivers license to legally operate this particular NIU on public roadways. It needs to be registered with the DMV and you have to carry vehicle insurance just like you would with a car. The slower NIUs, at least in Oregon and Washington (30mph top speed) only require a drivers license to operate but still need to be registered and insured. In other states there may be more strict or more lax regulations. Check your local laws.

NIU Is underrated quality. Isn't it?
@VespaPortland
@VespaPortland 3 года назад
If we are interpreting your question correctly - you're referring to the perception people have that things made in China are usually low quality, cheaply made, etc. We've had one person change their mind after learning the NIU is made in China but no one else has seemed bothered by it. What gets lost in Chinese manufacturing debates is that, if a company tells a Chinese manufacturer to "make it cheap" they will cut corners to fulfill that request. If a company wants quality, they can get that from China too. After all, Chinese workers aren't any less skilled than those in other countries. From what we've seen, the NIUs are well built electric scooters that have already been proven in something like 40+ other countries. Thanks for watching.

@@VespaPortland That's an interesting question. Noticed the Swedish agency of those charged pretty much €3000 for 2 new batteries, while they sell the entire bike with 2 batteries for €3500. Basically having to buy a new bike every 5 years seem a bit unreasonable. Any thoughts on that? Apart from that part, I do love the concept of these bikes. Also like how the bosch engines make them fairly silent. Great video!
@VespaPortland
@VespaPortland 3 года назад
Tough one to answer! As someone who keeps vehicles for a long time, it does seem a little unreasonable that the batteries are that expensive. On the other hand, the battery in those bikes is the only thing that has any significant cost. The GenZe battery was something like $2000+. That said, a lot of people trade out their vehicles in 5 years or less or their needs change and they stop riding, etc. Battery prices may drop in the next few years but it’s a hard to say. Just another consideration for folks looking into electric scooters at this time.

What we’ve seen is that whether or not someone thinks the scooter looks good mostly comes down to the age of the rider. The younger crowd really likes it. Older, it’s hit and miss.
