Hey brother! Put that mop and glow in a spray bottle and spray it on the skull and horn. Then just back brush it. You can mist the larger surfaces, and stream spray the tiny areas that the brush won't fit very well. I found it's way faster than just brushing all of the sealer on. I didn't seem to waste any more mop and glow than normal. Also the mop and glow seems to be storing ok in the spray bottle. Thanks for the follow up to Africa videos! Amazing pile of critter skulls!

Tbh I prefer the natural look of the skull. I found a fox skull a few months ago and it was perfectly cleaned by all the bugs. So I boiled some water to kill off the rest inside it, gave it a good scrub and glued in the teeth and dried it off. It looks more realistic that way.

Another great video. Articulate and detailed, as usual. I've learned a ton from watching what you've posted. You've probably already tried it, but I use a spray bottle to apply either mop and glow or a 50/50 mix of Mod Podge if i'm looking for a matte or glossy finish. You may lose a little more product with the spray, but it helps coat those hard to reach places with a brush. Either way, thanks for continuing to post!

Some of the taxidermists here in SA drill holes into the horns of the animals where it can't be removed from the core, and inject them with peroxide to clean the inside.

Hi there! what a good video thank you, I was waiting for this one lol! I've managed to find a solution for the horns that cant come off, yes to drill holes is the best bet, then to fill the holes with formalin and leave the skull upside down with the liquid in for about 2weeks - this is what takes the time!! Then give it a good clean after, and leave it to dry about 2months. I tried cleaning the skull and leave the horns to mother nature....but in SA we get beetles or worms that just about eats up the whole horn!! never mind just cleaning it - I was left with just the bone inside the horn on the skull! This was a great video thank you! I look forward to your horn cleaning video. Keep em coming! Greetings from SA. Yolandi

Hi. as far as I know, we in South Africa would never touch horns or tusks. So I think where the holes comes from is dep. of fish and wildlife, or even on out side, have drilled it to make sure no drugs was hidden in it.

Have you ever thought of or tried to use concrete sealer for the coat after their done? I don’t know what chemical reaction it would have with the bone, but just thinking it would seal up and harden the bone. 🧐

Gorgeous skulls! I am forever impressed by the size and shape of the horns on some of these creatures. :D Quick question for you, if you don't mind. :) For the skulls that are brittle, especially in the nasal bone/sinus cavity area, is there a way to reinforce the area to minimize the chance of breakage?

Maybe you've mentioned it before, but long do you leave the skulls in the boil? Also the more brittle or messed up skulls, do they differ time wise as well? For example the one skull that came back a little wet with the red discolouration, did that have to stay in the bath for a shorter amount of time?

Where to begin.......First off if your using 35% industrial peroxide the last thing you want to do is mix it with regular water, distilled water is the safe and best way. Second thing is i don't see you doing anything about the natural grease in the bone (what bone is left) if you don't remove it in time they will yellow. I have been doing this for a living for several years now and we use Beetles to clean the skulls and every bone no matter how fine or small never breaks. Looks like a quick short cut to make a buck and run. I would like to see one of your skulls that is like 5 years old and see how white it still is. One more thing, peroxide is not flammable but is will accelerate a fire like gas so if that pot ever overflows and hits that flame...........run baby run! Be careful people never boil peroxide read up on it if you don't believe me it can be dangerous stuff if not handled properly.
@WHITEBONE
@WHITEBONE 6 лет назад
Thank you for the time putting this comment together. I too have been at the skull thing for some time 25 years actually. You can’t buy 35 percent peroxide that I am aware of. We recommend 40 percent by volume peroxide developer which is 12 percent then diluted in half with water. My skulls do what all skulls do in time they take on natural color but never leak or smell. Nothing degreases like the boiling the peroxide mix. The beetles do an awesome job but they make the degreasing time much much greater. The method I share is for the do it yourself guy that can’t afford the taxidermist. These are Just guidelines. Hope you understand.
