I was #67 or 68 the other day! I know it sounds strange to say it, but it feels like a super secret club and I am so happy that I finally made the decision to join the patreon community. I have never heard of grazing animals being a nocturnal threat to sleeping campers. If anyone has any accounts where such animals were a threat or hazard, I would really like to hear that story. The nearest thing in my own memory was a flock of noisy sheep that kept nearly everyone up all night in a half mile radius all around.

Someone said an elk stepped on their friends tent and broke his ribs. Not sure if it was on Instagram or Facebook. fb.watch/73deOnHZe-/ the video is still up on Facebook. But I had an elk bothering me for about an hour. Did a half circle around my tent. Didn’t seem happy I was there. If it was an elk I am not sure. But glad I had my wall up.

@@SecondChanceHiker good reminder that elk are not always smart creatures. Factor in a third of a ton of mass and very hard extremities and that would indeed qualify as a hazard at least. I also recall now that there is a bit of a threat risk in rut season, but idk if that is just a daytime threat or anytime.

Awesome campsite, Cory! I am loving your trip, seemingly, to find your soul! I took a similar trip in my late 20’s - it was a solo bike trip from San Francisco to Yosemite National Park. All those hours cycling solo gave me tons of time to reflect on my life and the direction I was going. Needless to say, I grew immensely during this trip. I am so excited for you and your adventures! Hello loving your adventures. Be mindful of which way the wind is blowing when you spray the bear spray. I have had the bad experience of getting it in my eyes on a windy day. It can impair your vision when you need it most. Be safe be free

Plz elaborate. My dream involves teaching a lot of this stuff to others, but I would want to follow a tutoring/home school model instead of a commercialized tourist model. The epiphany I had is a very simple but profound thing which centers on Manskills. Don't let the "man" part disturb you. I can explain the actual name more fully if you like. What I came to discover is that a manskill has three requirements: 1 - It requires thought 2 - It demands effort 3 - It produces some good Bushcraft/wilderness skills is an important subset of manskills. The broader context is not at all limited to wilderness life.

@@skyblue-lb9kr tricky in my current nomadic situation. The seeming contradictions in my life make it very challenging to develop the connections I need. My testable education level across broad categories puts me in a very high level percentile. Economically I'm near the bottom. I have an abiding passion for learning and good books, but my life is spent mostly outdoors. I have done some of the hardest work known to modern men, succeeded where many others feared to even attempt, but dusty medals just provide evidence that the old German saying is more true than ever: "Past glories are poor feeding"

Great job filming your river crossings. Most people don't realize how much effort goes into filming yourself at a distance. First you got to set up you camera. Then go down the trail and cross the river. Then come back across the river to retrieve your camera. Then cross the river again to get back to where you were going. I'm getting tired just thinking about it. What a great "fort". I liked the way you defended it with your spear. Molon Labe, "Come and take it" Grizzly. Great idea placing your food on that island. The river will cover your scent going back an forth. Is that the 2000 calories of food you showed us a couple of videos ago? Are you still doing the Naked and Afraid thing? How's the fishing? Are you still fishing the "Old school" way? How's that going ? I thought you must be very hungry by now but you said you were eating every day. What are you eating? Are there any eatable plants or berries? You are such a great adventurer, and an inspiration to us all.

I was catching fish but I will never eat boiled fish again. So nasty. I ended up using a long stick and a string, fake fly and a hook to catch it. Not as old school as I would have liked. I recorded 6 minutes of me sharing my berry knowledge it I just viewed the footage and the camera was filming the wrong direction. However I am sure I can put together a story. I have learned a ton about berries and also the probability of which ones you can eat. Definitely plan to make a future video just on berries. But still just want to have fun. I think I will redo this survival man challenge in Montana next week. I saw someone try to guess my location but they picked the wrong river lol.

That bear spray works best if you use it like bug spray. They’ll totally leave you alone! Just be sure to close your eyes before applying.

I always take my two brides out with me everywhere I go. I know, I know not everyone is cool with polygamy but my two brides are never jealous of each other. Good catch. Common American error that is far too easy to slip into. Others are buzzards and possums which are not North American either. The actual animals are Turkey vultures and Oppossums.

Freedom + sunshine in sizable daily doses make for one of the best of all natural drugs, at least that is the effect. Chris McCandless knew it (Into The Wild by Jon Krakaur) Farley Mowat knew it I think (Never Cry Wolf by F.M.) Caballo Blanco (Micah True) knew it (Born To Run by Christopher McDougall) Henry David Thoreau knew it I think You would think the list would be endless, but it's kinda short even though there are a good many unknowns like yours truely who have had the experience.

I know exactly where you're located-about 10 miles west of Gros Ventre campground along the Gros Ventre river. Hardly the Wyoming wilderness and misleading if you don't know Jackson or the Tetons. If you want wilderness backpack into the Popo Agie Wilderness, Wind River Range or Bob Marshall Wilderness.
