In this build series we will be building the LQ4 LS Motor. There are many ways of doing this and with different types of tools as well. This is my method of building this motor. I ask that you do not bash on me on the way I build this motor. I have never built one before and I did a lot or research before I did this. There are a lot of people that have built the motor this way and it worked out great for them. Advise is more than welcome but if any rude comments get posted they will be removed. Thank You and Please Enjoy. All Part Numbers to the things I used are below.

On the 10mm side bolts on the main caps you need to add RTV on the threads of the bolts if not it's going to leak oil all day and night thanks for the great videos love them

@@LonniesGarage That is how I am. I have a 1964 Nova with an inline 6. I want to do an LS swap and want to use the 6.0 LQ4. I really enjoy how detailed you made these videos.

You doing good man. I'm working on an LQ9 rebuild/swap. I'm a rookie, too. Got it disassembled down to the block. I'm afraid of the rod and main-bearing clearances, but I read it's usually no thing. Gonna study up/ask around more about it before I start the reassembly.

Finishing up my rebuild now. After much research and YT videos, did mine like your with torquing vs TTA. Same with the rod bolts. Didn't do any bearing clearancing either. I went with Sealed Power bearings. Summit said the bearings were manufactured to spec so clearancing not necessary. Consensus says it's fine.

Thanks for posting this man. Other then not checking you clearances (blind faith in the manufacturer) your doing all right. I seen in the comments that you would have went with a more aggressive cam in retrospect and I would have to agree.

I’m actually trying to do that with my 6.0 right now. Do you have any advice u can give me on doing the job? I’m also confused on do anything need to be taking measured of when installing the crank? Or do you really drop it in as he dead & be done with it? I asked because I watch another video where they was taking measurements

I know it has been a year but it is bad idea to rotate the crank before you add the caps and torque them down... that is how you get oil/lube between them and the metal surface and then that can lead up to you spinning a bearing

Did they run those heads/caps through the parts washer.... they seem excessively dirty if there was any machine work done. When I did my big block, it came back looking brand new.

I commend you on building your own engine. I didn’t see you check your bearing clearances, though. Very important step. I also don’t recommend torquing the factory bolts to what people tell you to on forums. Listen to the guys that engineered the engine. Factory tells you torque to angle. You can re use those bolts and likely be okay, although they weren’t designed to be re used. Realistically, you should buy new bolts and follow the required torque pattern and torque them to angle, as they were designed. Or grab some main studs and get a line hone. Then you can re use the main studs all day. Those are literally the most critical bolts in the engine. No point in skimping out on a couple 100 bucks. Good luck!
@LonniesGarage
@LonniesGarage 3 года назад
I didn't reuse my old bolts. These are all new. I talk to my machine shop that did all the machine work and got all new parts through them. I also ask them about torque specs and they told me to do it like this if I didn't have the right tool. Also as for checking the bearing clearance I was told that sinse I didn't have the crank machine worked that the stock bearing sizes would work great.
