Showing you how to bleed the air from the high pressure side of the fuel system on a 2008 F250 6.4L engine. I did a fuel filter change on this not realizing that the truck was almost out of diesel so i got air into the system. `

FYI, at the time of my posting this, the Harbor Freight Basic Fuel Injector service kit has the correct banjo bolt and gauge with bleeder. Bled mine last night, worked great

I bleed the RETURN and port to atmosphere (schrader) .. until tubes are fluid filled .

What exactly do you think they put that fuel test schrader valve on the outlet cooler fuel line for? For looks? Just connect a fuel pressure gauge with a bleed off valve hose. Bleed off the air while you cycle the key fuel pump or use scan tool (If you wont buy a pressure tester your sure not gonna buy a scanner either eh) to command lift pump. When you begin to see nice solid fuel stream with small bubble here and there , start. When it starts , keep draining the excess air until it clears up to solid and your done.No banjo bolt drilling crap, dont even touch the banjo bolt period. Cheap fuel pressure tester is maybe 20 , if you cant get one then you really shouldn't be doing ANY repairs to ANY fuel systems. Guess what you have no MESS either , the basic fuel pressure gauge tester has a 1/8 hose on side you used to drain all that fuel/air into a container and comes with a ford fuel schrader adapter. No diesel all over the engine from leaving cap loose crap...Just drained all right into a container. Dont make things so difficult.

Appreciate your input but let me just fill you in onwhere I'm coming from. This problem happened to me when the customer was waiting. He was pretty upset with me when I told him his truck wasn't starting. He ended up getting a ride to where he had to go so I had a little time with the truck. I don't work on that many diesels and at the time I couldn't find any clean-cut answers online about how to get the air out of the high pressure fuel system on the Ford 6.4L. After looking at a couple forums, this is the message I went with and it worked so I figured I would make a quick video in case anybody else we dealing with a similar problem. That being said, are there other ways to do it? Yeah I'm sure. One guy mentioned just cracking the fuel filter housing loose. My question to you is if it's as simple as the Schrader valve, why do several companies make fuel Bleeder kits for these Ford 6.4l? Sorry if there's any typos in there I was using speak to text and didn't proofread. Thanks, and I appreciate the input

Be aware that the fuel intake strainer inside the fuel tank rots and crumbles to pieces... thus if the tank is below 1/4 level of fuel, it will begin to suck air. Also when that strainer falls apart some of it can get sucked up into the intake line, I found pieces of it all the way up to the fuel separator! Also, that strainer part in the bottom of the tank it comes in 2 sizes and it's random which size your truck will have if you can believe it... you need to measure the diameter of the steel intake line inside the tank to determine which size fuel strainer you need. Ford made POS I swear! Even after all I've replaced I'm afraid to drive this Ford F350 I inherited from my father now, it's FOR SALE I want it gone!

I have to deal with this when my diesel fuel gels and won't flow. The tool is outrageously expensive. I made a bleeder with a new banjo bolt drilled through the top then a .22 long rifle brass cartridge also with a hole drilled through the end, gently press fit the brass into the hole you drilled through the head of the banjo bolt, and there you go. I discovered this technique when stranded while snowmobiling, and the nipple broke off of the fuel pump . I reemed the hole in the aluminum pump body until the brass shell was just too big, then pounded the brass casing in. Ran it like that for two more years, and the new owner didn't change it.

There will almost always be small bubbles because of the fuel agitation from the return line to the tank. This is why aftermarket fuel "lift pumps" are a popular upgrade. Such as the FASS or others, they are air separators.

NoNonsenseKnowHow no problem. The air is normal, although still a design flaw issue. The aftermarket pump/filter set ups fix it, but they are 500+ bucks at minimum.

If your 08 6.4 won’t start, cranks, no fuel to engine, low pressure fuel pump needs replacing. Don’t be cheap an buy the pump only! The entire housing may need to be replaced. Save yourself my mistake. Lmao

This video only pertains to diesels. But mainly the 6.4. In gasoline engines this is never a problem

Just prime the system by turning the key to the on position and leave it like that for a couple minutes before starting the truck.

Having the same issue with my 08. The fuel has air in the system and has been bleeded. Would turn on for a few seconds then turns off. Any other suggestions

Use OEM (Motorcraft) filters only. The aftermarket filter don’t work in my truck.

The fuel cooler has a +- on it, jump it. I like to bump it a couple times too make sure the bleeder on the turbo is off

I have done many oil and fuel filter changes and never had this problem. Until I did it on my own truck. It started up fine and ran for a few seconds and you could tell it went ah fresh oil. Then it shut off and won't restart. I only tried a few times but I'm in a parking lot and it's almost ten pm. My service dog and I live in this piece of shit so I have food I can make dinner for us and try bleeding the system in the morning. Need to just leave it alone for tonight and take a look in daylight. Hopefully neither the basket tweakers nor the cops will bother me overnight and I'll get some rest. I'm a disabled senior citizen and I don't need anymore nonsense right now. I'm ready to set this piece of shit on fire and walk away.

Cycle the key 3 or 4 times then turn it on again and bleed the shrader valve it’s the thing beside where he had his hose hooked up looks like a tire valve take something and push it in keep doing that until the air is all gone and it’ll start right back

Got one the costumer ran out of diesel,I change the fuel pump for a new one blad the system. Now, long cranks when hot. When its running it works just fine.any advise 😤🤬

There is a Schrader valve next to the banjo bolt that you are supposed to use, from what i was told. Witch is the inlet side. what is the difference??

NeverTryNexus it was air in the system, I bought the $90 kit off amazon and bled the high side, and used a psi checker, hollowed it out and attached it to the small hose to drain the low side

It works, it's just a pain in the ass. Takes an hour or more of bleeding the manual way by cracking that bleeder bolt at the top. It's just a very tedious process. Wish there was an easier way.

Use the port on left hose( opposite. One he used) just cycle key and push in with phillips and it will drain air out

I changed the fuel filters on my 6.7 last night and didn't get the lower housing tight enough. I primed the system 8 times and it wouldn't start. After a few more attempts it started, but I got a low fuel pressure warning. Shut the truck down, realized me error and tightened the housing the rest of the way. Now the truck seems to run fine with no error codes. Could I still have air in my system or will it eventually work its way out?
