Thers a big difference between having a VGT turbo and a fixed vane, I had a VGT in my 2012 RAM 2500, 5" TB straight pipe with the Flo Pro twister, the truck was quiet as can be, and now with the fixed vane and the same exhaust, it's louder, way louder, I had to add a muffler to quiet it down to make it sound better and still have the turbo whistle like a 5.9.
Props for keeping it tolerable and avoiding flatbiller dieselbro status. Don't get me wrong, I have a big block drag car that's stupid loud and I love it, but for daily driving, and especially diesels, it's so much nicer when they actually sound good without being obnoxious, especially at 6:30 AM when I'm your neighbor. It's a fine line sometimes. Yeah, I'm getting old.
Cruise at 50 didn't change by an audible decibel level to the human ear since the human hears only 2 db increments. A 10db increase will sound like twice the loud ... so the 4th gear pull 6db less muffled so it's a full 50% noise reduction to the human ear. The in cab idle drop of 8db is a 75% noise reduction . The 3 drop outsude at idle is a moderate drop the ear at 3db which only 2db is noticeable . I'm conflicted with putting on my twister I've had it sitting since I deleted . The only time I find it overly loud is full throttle and that's mostly because it sounds raspy not deep and throaty. The exhaust brake under heavy rpm also sounds squeaky. I got the small 12 inch main body resonator once I put it on if I don't like it I'm going to have to buy a new center pipe after cutting to fit.
I don’t regret putting mine on at all. At first the inner teenager came out and I miss the loud sound from 5” straight pipe. But now I’m glad because of neighbors/cops/family during long trips.
The CFM Flow Video that you are using for your information (at 4:53) are labeled 5" pipe and muffler. If you go to the FLOPRO video I believe the test was actually done with 4" pipe and muffler.
I just bought a 2018 ram 2500 cummins , previous owner has it straight piped and just went to get it inspected and they told me it is too loud...I was like......really... so now here i am researching mufflers to satisfy the inspection station.
@@Justthemow I got it inspected at a local place instead of valvoline. Texas doesn't care per se but because its valvoline they don't want to risk a federal fine.
So my area doesn’t have sound laws or emissions testing but I have a stock 2016 3500 dually and don’t want to light up my gauges like a Christmas tree. I noticed your didn’t have a CEL with the muffler. In your opinion would that be the way to go?
It is hard to hear the difference over video or certain situations. Overall it is a lot quitter, honestly a bit too quiet for my liking but not worth undoing all the work. Exhaust break is a world of difference and was the most significant change.
@@loganhill3853 i did research and they say its better to put it right after the downpipe instead of further down. So I am going to talk to some local shop guys about it
@@dozerboyd8784 It's hard doing it with a phone since that's not really calibrated. I wish I would have gotten a legit decibel reader. Peak it might be louder, it's hard to say for sure. Cruising is definitely quieter though.
