I think if you want a Datejust, go vintage. The older models have more character and charm in my opinion. I think the Datejust is the perfect watch to buy if you're looking for a "birth year" watch because of how long it's been in production. That's my plan anyways if I ever buy a Datejust...

I own a birthyear datejust bicolour, got it for my 21st and it was 'born' the same year I was. Think that's a lovely touch and I agree with your comment 100%. They also still look 'modern' so they won't look out of place next to new models.

I wouldn't call any other watch with a date, an alternative to the Datejust. It has a very clear design language and thus market segment, that most watches on this list don't fall into: a large smooth or fluted bezel, a 3 link bracelet with polished center link and baton, lumed hour markers. The Omegas come close, but you could have added a Tissot Gentleman, a Grand Seiko, a Tudor Style to the list.

When you see a Datejust in the metal, it is actually a very blingy, flamboyant piece of jewelry. It's not for me, because I so rarely dress up enough to wear one. Most of the watches in this video have considerably less of the bling factor, and probably compare better to the Rolex Oyster Perpetual, even though they have a date.

Haha, exactly. They praise the Globemaster for it's movement, yet the modern Aqua Terra has the exact same one. 😂

Hey Phil, We were trying to keep the price on these alternatives below the Datejust range and the new Aqua Terras are just more expensive than the older ones. That's why we added the Globemaster as a "Bonus Watch". But yes the new ATs art on point!

Wow thats a great list of alternatives. Some of them might be also first choices. The Aqua Terra and the Baume&Mercier would me my favorite choices. A more affordable option would be maybe the Tissot Gentelman.

Excellent video! So many great choices. I would say the Tudor Style 41mm with fluted bezel would be as close as you could get to a Datejust 41. That would be my 1st choice, followed by the Globemaster and then the Transocean 38mm. Cheers

Roamer Searock is a great datejust alternative and very comfortable every day watch. Swiss made quality and it just looks nice, love it

Well i would add to the list an affordable and very serious option which is the Tissot Gentleman Silicium Powermatic80 or it's sister the Ballade if you look for a fluted bezel. And very low budget option you have the Seiko 5 SNXS line Those are the watches that really remind me the DJ when tried them

Strange that you don't mention Grand Seiko, whose watches are arguably better than every one of the six you list, including the Rolex Datejust itself. Maybe that's because you don't sell GS, which if you did I would be buying.

Seiko are far less classy imo, aquaterra / datejust are statement pieces, seikos aren’t . Depends on how you define “better”

My vote goes to the Omega AT, best-detailing on the case & a COSC + METAS certified chronometer with antimagnetic to 15,000 gauss and 150m water resistance - better spec and finish than the Rolex. I also own a Rolex OP and next to the AT, it looks like the AT has more design and finishing. Rolex is still classy, but looks pretty plain for the money.

The tudor date day (ref. 76200, 36mm) is not on here and yet is the best alternative to a rolex datejust. It even has a white gold fluted bezel variant (76214/76213 or 94614/94613 if you prefer vintage), steel engine-turned (76210/94510), and even semi-fluted (94170). It also comes with a variety of dials (stick, linen, mosaic, applied roman, buckley, arabic/doorstop, ranger, even california dials), materials (two-tone), and bracelets (jubilee, oyster, prince bracelets). Then theres the prince date (74000, 34mm), with even more variants. That said, it was good seeing the transocean day date here.

The closest thing and directly comparable to the Datejust is the Tudor Date Day, either the 36 mm which is almost identical looks wise to an vintage Datejust or the newer models, which are larger but still would qualify as an Datejust alternative.

Glad you added the Constellation. I always saw that as Omega's Date Just alternative. The Aqua Terra, while lacking a rotating bezel, was always a Yacht Master alternative in my mind as both serve a surf or turf, deck of a boat in the daytime / yacht club at night functionality.

I realize they have less of a history, and are technically a micro brand, but let’s be honest. Monta is making Watches that rival Rolex offerings at 1/3 of the price. The fit, finish, bracelets, etc., all on par with a luxury brand. I was looking at a Rolex Date Just or Explorer as my first, and potentially only, luxury watch... I will instead be ordering the Monta Noble. Similar design language but uniquely Monta at the same time.

s small tip. if you want a datejust jist save up and buy the datejust. because you will always luster after it. if you like the looks and you want quality, you can buy tudor or the omega versions.

Check out the Bulova Super Seville Day-Date. I just ordered one of eBay from a trusted seller. They are all "vintage" now because they were produced in the late 70s to the 90s I believe. The best alternative to the Day-Date if you ask me; way better than any cheap Chinese knock off. At least you're getting a well built watch from a brand with pedigree and a Swiss ETA movement in most. Another option is the Orient "President", hard to find though depending where you're located.

@@mikec3454 The problem I have with the Super Seville is the variant I always see is under 38mm. They look so small for a big guy like me. 38mm is as low as I can go. The Orient President can get too expensive because of its rarity. But thanks for the heads up!

You can purchase a very nice 1603 in multiple dial colors for around 3k. If someone wants a datejust then why not just buy one instead of these alternatives. I would think a 1603 would be less expensive than several of these.

Only Omega GM and Rolex OP Date meet the Rolex Datejust criteria as a great alternative for me. I wouldn’t consider others as good alternatives at all, aesthetically they don’t speak to me the same way that the Datejust does, they totally miss the Rolex aesthetic magic by a country mile.

This video should have been called better options than the Datejust. We have a small watch club in southern California and your videos are liked by most of us but buying from your website has not been an option for any of us because you don't know when the watches you sell were made. Putting it was made some time between 2010 and now is just ridiculous and unacceptable. I really hope you address this so more of us dare to pull the trigger. Thank you.

I think the only reason to own a Rolex is to flex. They're absolutely not worth the money and you're paying a luxury/scarcity premium. None of these watches give you that. If price is an issue and you just want the look, there are plenty of homages that you can own for $300.
