As a Forest supporter since the 1970s, to say Brian Clough was a wasted talent is criminal.Before Cloughie came to Forest in 1975 we’d only won two major trophies.The FA CUP in 1898 and 1959.Cloughie,along with Peter Taylor,won us the League and League cup in 1978,along with the Charity shield,the League cup and European cup in 1979 and the European cup and Super Cup in 1980.Then on his own,we won the League cup in 1989 and 1990.There were other trophies such as the Anglo Scottish cup,the Simod cup and the ZDS cup,which some would class as Mickey Mouse trophies,but trophies nonetheless.This is the greatest manager England NEVER had.And to say he was a wasted talent! Absolutely ridiculous.😾

Even up to the late 1980s and early 1990s forest were competitive in league and fa cups with some finals appearance … a time when the league cup and FA Cup meant something to fans (probably still does to fans before 2000s ) They were never a “big” club. With world wide support Even in places like Ireland , who have always being strong supporting clubs with large Irish populations in The U.K. (Liverpool, Manchester City(yes they had fans back in the day) n Man United , Leeds , Arsenal, Glasgow Celtic ) and tv access increasing, I only know a few Forest fans (of a certain vintage ) cough, “sunshiners” . Huge achievement for Forest (and Derby)

Those cups were NOT considered Mickey Mouse back then. It was important for English clubs as they were only getting back into European football due to that ban . They needed games and the standard of English football , in terms of competition was strong . The results in Europe during the 1970-1980s proved that The ban , was during the height of English football dominating European football, even unfashionable clubs like Ipswich won stuff . It robbed clubs like Arsenal 1989 team of competing in Europe . not saying they would have done much but it took Arsenal multiple years before they were capable of getting to the quarter final in the UCL . Even Man U had hard times in UCL - UEFA Cup from 1992-1995. (That player restriction stuff was crazy. United could play all their main players . Nicky Butt was a sub for European games before making his league debut . Imagine if John Aldridge was playing for Liverpool or Everton or Tranmere . He’d be classed as a foreigner as he was playing for Ireland . I gave Aldridge an example because well, everyone knows that he sounded , looked and acted like a Scouser (I mean that in a nice way btw )

George Best ? Yes, he achieved A LOT . But who knows , if he kept himself football fit , he might have got his chance to play in a World Cup or European Championship by the time Northern Ireland became competitive . (Might have been a gal take but …) Hey, Roger Milla was 40 when Cameroon played at a word cup . Lesser players like Ryan Giggs (heavily compared to Best during his teens , and for good reason) managed to stick around at the top level despite not being consistently THE MAN or anything close to it , in his later years (ya he played some great big games after 1999 but meh most of the seasons ) I guess it’s hard to say that George didn’t achieve his full potential as he was a European Player of the year but …. He could have done more in the 1970s
