I used a Wacom One for almost two years, it's just excellent! Now I'm working on a Huion Kamvas 22, also working great, I made the change because when drawing comics, the 13 inch screen gets small when I make just a little zoom, but I still prefer the One stylus, it's just great. As for accesories, I just use a gaming one hand keyboard, very useful to have shortcuts in the macro keys.
@@saintman5360 Super slow. They also come with extras fairly often. You'll be set for over a year worst case I think Granted, this is from someone who doesn't draw daily
Articulated arms are amazing for larger pen displays! Clears up desk space, makes it easier to use your display as a normal monitor when you're not drawing/sculpting, and it feels really badass when you pull it towards you to work. Ergotron makes a pricey-but-nice model, but Amazon has some fantastic cheap arms if you don't mind paying The Bezos.
If you use Clip Studio exclusively, then the TABMATE remote works pretty well. It feels like holding a one hand controller like joy-con is, but with a few more buttons and a scroll wheel.
You mentioned shortcut key remotes and I was waiting for your to say "The Tour box Neo is a...". Ever since they sent me one I have not been able to stop using it. I'm primarily an animator, but I find that it's useful for music production, video editing, or any other program you can think of. The analog controls make things like zooming in, increasing brush size, or flipping frames in animation much more natural and kind of fun. I can't wait for their Bluetooth version to come out.
I bought a Kamvas 16 (2021) and a third-party full-range adjustable tablet stand. It feels so good having a stand that can change the tablet's angle so freely by only the pull of a small lever.
I was trying to figure out what stand to buy for my Wacom one which I've owned for over a year. At two minutes in, I learned that my wacom one had a hidden fold out stand all alone XD. You are a life saver. Thank you!
I had a Samsung Note 10.1 tablet. I bought the Staedtler stylus for it and it gave the tablet a whole new dimension. Far better for digital drawing than the pokey little phone-sized s-pen that came with it. I made a big ol' upgrade to the Tab S7+ and I mainly use the big ol' proper-sized s-pen that came with _that,_ but sometimes I still reach for the Staedtler. I've noticed the rubber tip has a lot less sensitivity, or more resistance(?) than the slightly splaying tip of the packaged s-pen, giving thinner lines for the same pressure and brush size. It means that if I want to do, say, fine hatching among swoopy brush lines, I sometimes, _sometimes_ switch physical tools rather than switch digital tools, or adjusting the digital tool size. I'm not sure if this constitutes digital drawing heresy or not.
Sounds perfect to me. I honestly believe it is a better way. I am so confused with changing digital tools it is much faster and easier go get a different stylus that specifically design for different strokes.
i seriously don’t get these comments. like, by the time i found this comment i was already halfway through the video. do people seriously look for these time stamps before watching these videos or something like wtf?
For shortcuts you should check out the tourbox neo/elite, it’s unorthodox layout is actually very intuitive and ergonomic. Just not ambidextrous, it’s primarily for right handed users.
Gameboards/Keypads are great accessories for drawing. I always use my Logitech G13 whenever I'm drawing on the PC, unfortunately the product is discontinue. There are other alternative, such as Razer Tartarus that can be affordably purchase on sales.
I personally use one of those Razor one hand Keyboards for my shortcut keys, very ergonomic and comfortable to use, and they're great for gaming too 😅 (basically means I don't have to rearrange my setup just to play a few rounds)
@@saimanideepb It has a built-in scroll wheel I use for zooming and for panning, I just map the thumb key to spacebar and use that to pan. Razor's mapping software does allow for multiple profiles too.
I just got a Wacom One for Christmas. For all of you out there who want a tablet that’s below the price of 4/500 and is exceptionally good, The Wacom One is for you. It’s amazing.
I tried the wacom one, right next to several others (wacoms, xp-pens) and there's nothing exceptional about the grip, actually the lack of it, it's like drawing on ice just like any other pen display.
Another stylus choice is from LAMY. They are known for making fountain pens and other stationery. However, their LAMY AL-Star Stylus has EMR technology and resembles the regular LAMY AL-Star fountain pen in the build. It even has a cap!
Careful tho. Not all EMR work equal. I recently got myself an Elitebook Laptop from 2015 and was surprised to find its pen work with my P900 Samsung Tablet. That newer Samsung Pro Stylus even has a switch for different "emr compatibility"
Hi @Brad Colbow, thanks for the excellent video! Question: Which would you recommend of these three? 1.) the Wacom Expresskey 2.) Elgato Stream Deck 3.) The Tour Box Neo I'm trying to decide which one to get for my Wacom One
@@tggorudon2551 for two reasons - 1.) a Stream Deck has the benefit of visually displaying what each button does (which would be better than a numberpad), and 2.) the Expresskey and Tour Box have radial controls that might be better for fine adjustments of Zoom, etc. I like both of those benefits (#1 and #2). I'm just trying to figure out which one would be a greater advantage.
I can't speak to the Wacom Expresskey, but I own both a couple Stream Decks and a Tour Box Neo. I like both products very, very much, but they are really pretty different. If your interest is in having something to augment your tablet drawing, then the Neo would be the better choice there, I think. The Stream Deck's only real use in drawing would be as a hot key replacement, mostly. That is useful, but you can do that with the Neo as well, except with the Neo, you also have the knob, dial, and scroll gadget, which are ideally suited for things like brush size, zooming, etc. In terms of overall office productivity, the Stream Deck has been a more important product for me. But in terms of drawing specifically, the Neo wins.
After getting a graphics display, I have found table easel for fine art is great for me. I have a folding wooden easel and a 13.3 down artist pro tablet.
I would like to hear what you think of pen caps--a cap over the tip of the pen in place of a screen protector, and they are suppose to provide some drag to the drawing experience. So far I've only seen these for the Apple Pencil. Perhaps they would also work for the S Pen (which I have). Thanks.
Just so you know, the link for the Wacom Express Key Remote is the same link for the Switch Joycons! I wanted to bookmark the remote but noticed it was the Joycon link.
I have the wacom one, one of the things i dont really like about it not being able to match up the color profile to my macbook. glad to know there was a product for that but the price of that is steep
I am an illustrator who has used traditional methods, involving pencil and paper. I have a Samsung S6 which is pretty good for conceptual sketches including small renderings. Is there a tablet upon which one can use traditional drawing tools such as straight edge, triangles and compass? The Rytz axis construction can be done with paper and pencil in 15 minutes but, with a tablet, it is a cumbersome and daunting task. Why can't there be a hybrid device which will allow the use of a geometry set - a traditional little box available at Staples. Also I find it very difficult to set up an "edger" line using only the drawing tools in Autodesk Sketchbook, on the S6. But it works if I use a ruler, on the surface of the glass!
Just a FYI the Boox Note 3, Max Lumi, Nova 3, Note 3 Stylus works too. It not listed on Wacom site but I recently ordered one to use with my Wacom one. The stylus is about the same size as a mechanical pencil and it has a working eraser as well as a button for right clicks.
The Wacom One sounds like a good deal, but I just can't do 1080 vertical. I'm so spoiled on the amount of tools I can see at once, and that was when I was running 1440 on my desktop. I've switched to 2160 vertical and now I'm beyond spoiled.
Yup yup yup I just love being able to see all of a 1080p canvas at full quality and have the tools in the same display, I also tend to justify keeping my pen tablet with the thought that looking down to a pen display is gonna hurt my neck a lot more than looking up to my monitor.
I get that spoiled feeling. I've been binging Brad's videos to see what I might use to 'upgrade' from my Samsung Tab S7+. A bit surprising to see that most of today's pen displays are 1080p, which is not only a step down from the S7+, but also my old Note 10.1 from 2014...
If you watch his actual review that wasn't an ad, he wasn't that thrilled with Wacom one either. Not sure how I feel about this kind of sponsorship tbh
I wouldn't say that there is a good selection of good shortcut remotes. The Wacom ExpressKey Remote is the best, but I do wish they'd upgrade it to USB C and the touch scrollwheel is... okay. As for the Staedtler styluses... they are great (shame about no buttons), but the glue they use isn't great. I've had both a Norris Digital and a Jumbo have parts come unglued.
Have you reviewed the Sketchboard Pro? I’m planning on getting one, I’m so uncomfortable drawing on this terrible case I was given. It keeps collapsing and has sharp edges.
Wondering if there is a pen that works on a non touch pad screen? Just interested. I grabbed a small Wacom pad for $50. Just the usb one like i care right now. Just want to doodle for now plus it has buttons a lot cheaper then those elgato button things. I think the pen it comes with is pretty good. May upgrade it if i get a tablet later. Probably a generic Samsung tablet. I did want to go drawing one but i want it for other stuff as well.
(7:05) I have one for my BOOX Note Air2 and mainly got one because I knew I'd be able to slide on a pencil grip made for children, hoping to create some interesting effects in my drawings when I hold the pencil in a handwriting position instead of a drawing position with the help of one of those grips. I do still mostly draw on mine using a BOOX Pen2 Pro, but as I lost the cap for mine, the nib got bent and it's probably about time I replace it. (2:36) Following a 'Teoh Ya Chie' review, I went with a Parblo PR100 instead, which isn't as portable, but allows for easier adjustment.
Hey Brad, Love your videos, big fan. Can you suggest me something. I want to buy a huion pen display tablet I already have a huion hs610 and want to draw on a screen and huion is my most trusted seller and I need the product to be under 500 dollars
I got the Samasung galaxy Book2 pro 360 I really like it so far. But when I flip it over I lose the keyboard to do a simple hold shift so I can select more then one line at a time can the Wacom express key be set to hold down the shift key.
Hi brad, do you know what are the best tablets/monitors that handle very low brightness(lower than 5cd/m2). Is hard to find one. And manufactures dont like to put the minimum brightness just the high can reach. Sry for my english, I am a bit sensitive to the light, it burn my eyes :)
i recently got a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE to work with Clip Studio Paint, and it started to bother me not being able to put my palm resting on the screen while drawing, because it was always leaving spots and lines when i lift the s pen away from the screen, and i tried to use the artist glove that i got with a Huion Kamvas 13, but didn't work at all. Does actually any other glove work for palm rejection on the S7 FE?
I am going buy a Wacom one pen to use for my S6 lite. I keep loosing my S pen when I put it somewhere bc it's very light (no pun intended). The SPen is amazing, no regrets on drawing with it, it just me thinking the pen teleported somewhere✋🏾😭
i really like my xp-pen ac19 shortcut remote with wheel that can control 5 different things. its cheap as hell so i have 2 now 1 for at home one for on the road with my laptop.
Hi Brad, I know this is of topic - but…. I know you are into animation on iPad and I would love to hear what you think of „alight motion“ 4.0 It looks like The closest thing to “aftereffects” on the iPad. Even though the pro version is a subscription, all features are free till Dezember 16th I believe. So maybe a good time to give it a try. I’ve got no business with the makers - just curious what you think of it. Regards Kai
don't even think about dropping your Vacom Express Key Remote. The back cover is made of thinnest plastic and it will crack in one second (personal experience)
I got a Huion KD100 as a keypad to help my workflow and only when I tried to use I found out it couldnt work at the same time with an older Huion tablet who doesnt have a batery-free pen. Seems like there's a drive conflict, but neither works alone without their respective drive. Once I tried customer support it has been the worst experience with customer support I ever had. Thankfully I ordered through Amazon so I could get a refund. So be careful with really specific purpose keypads, check if they won't conflit with older tablet models and your pc. Sometimes it's best to make yourself an easy solution for macropads like Brad taught.
I just bought the same keypad along with the huion h580x pen tablet which is the medium size of their new inspiroid series so it shouldn't be a problem with the driver, even though I already have a tablet, the gaomon m10k pro, I found it to be too large and I have an issue with the wheel when on brush side mode, I can decrease but I can't enlarge, I went to their official account on Twitter and so far they haven't given a solution, so yeah
I found a little problemon your site, when i go to the iPads and anroid section and press to see on amazon on the iPad (9th generation), it sends me to the i pad air (4th generation)
@chalupawhale well i wouldnt say anything is wrong with it, but i expected a bit better quality, pen feels extremly cheap, screen is washed out, pen accuracy is not the best, it still gets the job done (i aint changing it anytime soon) and when you compare prices of huion and wacom (at least in my region) 270€ for huion and 450€ for wacom it is to be expected, i just had unrealistic expectations.
@chalupawhale well my experience with wacom was okay i dont have any complaints(most likely because i didnt use their tablets much and when i did i was really inexperienced), i started with "one by wacom" and it was great i liked everything about it but i wanted something with screen, then i got samsungs note 10 that used wacoms pen and digitizers, till this day note 10 is so damn good and only reason i use huion tablet is because of screen size and programs. Only problem i had with huion drivers was yesterday, for some reason when i try to calibrate a pen it shows up only on half of a screen
I just got the Kamvas 16 (2021 not pro) and after a few days of playing with it I think it is just as good as the 22” Cintiq I used while at school. Good color, no lag on the regular Krita brushes (haven’t tried the more processor intensive brushes), and good pen accuracy. There is a slight amount of flex in the middle of the screen but only if you are actually testing it, the pen is a little light and thinner than the Art Pen I used with the Cintiq but not enough to be a problem. Over all good quality device.
@@IV.Fourth I'm almost in the same boat. I moved up from a Note 10.1 tablet to Tab S7+. I've been thinking about pen displays for the same reasons: even bigger screens and desktop software. It's disappointing but informative to know that a Huion might not be that much of an upgrade.
Hey guys, given we are talking accessories I have a question that someone around here might be able to answer. I have been working on a Dell Canvas for 3 years now and it is hands down the best tablet I have used. But here is my problem...Dell discontinued it, meaning that if my pen breaks for whatever reason the tablet becomes useless. I have tried samsung's pens on it and they do work but are always a bit to the side compared to the cursor on screen. So my question-does anyone know of a good replacement that would actually work? Could the wacom pen from the wacom one work (given that it is pretty much the same pen at least on the spec side of things)? (I have tried ebay for the original pen but have had no luck)
You could try using a nail clipper on the tip. (But make sure to have replacement tips !!) Otherwise yo can probably configure offset in your program\OS. My Samsung Tablets Pen works perfect, no offset. But my Elitebook EMR Pen has a bit of offset (IbisPaint has an option to correct offset)
For the shortcut remote, there is something important you should know... It's better to buy one of the same brand as your pen display, even if some other may have a better design or functionnality... The reason is simple, they are almost always using a driver that also manages pen displays, which means that if you have a huion pen display and buy the wacom remote, you will have to install wacom tablet driver, and that may cause conflicts that will mess up with your pen display usage....
@@repeekyraidcero source? Many reviews on youtube where the reviewer starts saying that the tablet doesn't work correctly until he realizes that it is because of a driver for another brand of tablet that has not been unistalled properly... And since the shortcut remotes use the same drivers as the tablets, it may cause issues...
Good luck to not to lose your wacom remote USB dongle. Without it it's good as a piece of a brick. I have one without it, alternatives are non-existent because dongle is paired from factory and proprietary.
i switch between my computer and my ipad a lot, and i honestly think getting the 8bitdo zero 2 to work for me is painful (i did get it to work but it likes to disconenct randomly) i used to have a razer tartarus but ipad won't read my configs and a normal gamepad doesn't want to cooperate with my ipad :( so what i did was order a custom QMK macropad on a local online store, and then connect it to either ipad or my computer and they will read the same keys, so hurray! (they're not wireless though so that's a thing, unless you can order it to be wireless somehow) i like my 3x3 macropad with 2 dials, i can just put it in my suitcase whenever i need to go out :p
