Pretty new into bourbon, looking to round out my collection. I've heard mixed on 1792 small batch. Some think it's fantastic. Looking for something without a lot of burn. I was thinking this or a Russell's 10.
Freaking John J Bowman!!! Quit telling everyone about it. Damn you!!! I’m in Ohio and have a seriously hard time finding it. I have two bottles and want more. I would trade for some!!!!
I SO hope the bourbon noobies don't discover Cooper's Craft 100 and it suddenly becomes trendy. My fear is it will become hard to find. $29.99 & always available now so far in SW Ohio. Love Eagle Rare too, but it's very Rare to find.
Solid list, here's my version: Michter's (US1 or American), JohnJ Bowman, Eagle Rare, Redwood Empire, and 1792 SB (too bad BiB and FP cost a little more than $50). I've seen Weller FP for $400 and thought, "hard to justify that one bottle when I could have about 15 bottles of Redwood Empire or Eagle Rare"...
Except for the Russells Reserve 10-year I keep the others on hand in my collection at all times. I am partial to the Russells Reserve single barrel. Thanks for the great video.
I have both and RRSB is worth the extra price point for sure.RR10 has such a big oak forward note that it dominates everything on the palate. ECBP with two more years does it better at keeping that oak note at bay
I’m glad you put that John J Bowman on here. It is so good. Id have to bump Russell 10 off the list because the one I picked up in KY and have tried was straight up boiled peanuts. That’s not my jam.
Got Michter's small batch from Amazon Fresh for $38. Best price I could find locally. Good stuff. 1910 or Woodford double oaked - that's the debate I always see. 1920 is actually cheaper than 1910 in my area $50 vs $60. My favorite at this price (that i've tasted so far) is Four Roses Single Barrel.
John j Bowman is actually the hardest to find. My local Spec's only had Old Forester 1910 from all of these you mentioned lol They carry Eagle Rare but it was sold out. I'll just stick to classic Buffalo Trace for now.
Eagle rare was at my local Costco for $25 limited 1 per person and missed it. Usually get it at TW at $35. Amazing bourbon and it’s kind of fun to hunt for(since it’s rare, but not too tiring to get).
I agree with the Russell's 10 yr. One of my favorites, reasonable price for a 10 year, and easy to find. I heard that it used to be 101 proof. That would would so damned good to try it at that proof. Eagle Rare is impossible to find in my area. I lucked out several months ago and happened to be in a liquor store with some returns I brought in and they happened to be stocking their limited allocation on the specialty shelf across from the return desk. "Limit 1 bottle". I grabbed one for my cart - only $35 anyway. The shelf was clear by the time I left. I haven't opened that bottle yet, as I have been waiting to see if I can score a backup bottle first. No such luck yet.
Thanks for update! I have been on break from sampling. You channel first for me to catch up on. Now…let’s see if they are available up here in the Great North.
David. As usual, simply a great job. I wish ER was more readily available in MO (grrrrr), but the right choice anyway to be included. Thanks for taking out time to get us bourbon addicts our fix ;)
Great list! I did an under 40 list and coopers craft 100 was for sure on it as well as makers cask. For your pricing here the winners to me are JJB and 1910 but rare breed in Pa is 46 so I vote that the king haha
Eagle Rare $29.99 here in PA but very difficult to get. Usually sells out in an hour or 2. Can't get Coopers 100 or John J Bowman here, but can get it in MD on a short road trip. WT RB $46.99 in PA and is readily available (thankfully).
100% agree… Michters US1 is my “never without”. For the price? Super solid. As soon as I crack a closed bottle I’m looking to pick up it’s replacement!
I recently was in Indiana and came across Coopers Craft 100. Remember hearing good things about it. Was glad I bought two bottles. Great pour for the price. My favorite out of your list right now.
Glad to see a channel from someone from VA who can relate to the bourbon struggles we have over here with availability haha. Russell's 10 year is a really good pour. A lady put me onto it when WR Double Oaked ran into logistics issues and I have to keep a bottle of Bowman and Elijah Craig as they are locals ( Craig being originally from Orange County). Great video I'll be checking out more 👌.
Dude you hit the nail on the head with this list....but good luck finding John J Bowman. It is not sold in Florida, only Bowman Brothers. It took me three years to find John J Bowman and I now have 4 bottles all purchased in Georgia. Eagle Rare and Blantons can found at certain stores here at retail. I am trying to stock up on John J as I believe it is considered allocated. I will stop looking when I have 12 in my stock pile.
Can’t go wrong with Brown Foreman, I’ll be looking for the Cooper’s- thank you for the recommendation! When I review it on my channel, I’ll give you a shout-out!
I agree with your choices. Eagle Rare hard to get in my area, but received a bottle from a friend for Christmas. OF 1910 is my new favorite bourbon that I can get for $46 in Northern Illinois. John J Bowman also hard to find here. Happy New Year.
Thanks for sharing your expertise. I’m in DC, I hit ABC all the time. I’ve been a JD and JB dude for years . I’ve been expanding my horizons lately. I’ve grabbed a bottle of all the bourbons you’ve recommended that I could find. I have about 25 bottles so far. I think I’m off to a good start. Thanks again homie. If you ever come across the bride hit me up. 👊🏽
Great picks! I’m a huge old forester fan even over Buffalo trace just because of the price points. But eagle rare still my baby. Thanks again. Keep it up
These are all very good bourbons. In that price range, I personally prefer Backbone Bourbon uncut. It however, is extremely limited in their area of release
In Michigan see Eagle once in a great while. No Coopers here but got one in Colorado. Yum!! No John Bowman dont think but keeping eyes open! Price has gone up a bit around here for Russell's.
Hear in my part of Massachusetts rear bread goes for between $45 and $55 dollars at two stores within a mile of each other and eagle rear is between $39 and $50 at two different stores within a mile of each other . these four store I stop in on weekly and each one has different bourbon and different prices.
Coopers Craft 100 - very easy to find in my area and always have 2 bottles in my stash. Russell’s 10 year - easy to find and available when I want it. And simply very good juice. Michter’s - not a big fan. I think it’s over priced. Good but not one I look for. Eagle Rare - Oh how I WISH I could find it. I’ve had a half full bottle in my stash for over two years, as I tip it over to keep the cork moist every now and then. Love this juice. Help me out whiskey row! Old Forester 1910 - Yessir!!! A damn good one and grateful I can journey to find and buy when I run out. But do like the 1920 a smidge better. John J. Bowman - never had it. I suppose you just gave me a bourbon journey to find and purchase. 👍
Completely agree with the choices, save for the Bowman that isn't available in my area. Coopers is my favored pour for every dayish..Russles 10 is on the shelf, Eagle Rare is a close second. Thanks for the content!
Running tally for Minnesota. Cooper's Craft: No, Russel's: Yes, Mitcher's: Yes, Eagle Rare: Not really, there maybe 6 bottles in the state, OF 1910: Yes, but you might not find 1910 in every store, JJB: No. At least I have a steady supply of Russel's!
I'm a little surprised that Knob Creek Single Barrel wasn't on the list $49.99 here in NC. I knew that one of the Mickters, not sure on spelling, was going to be in the mix. I'm going to have to try this one. Only one I've tried, and repeat bought was their sour mash.
Thank you for posting this!! It’s exactly what I was have been looking for!!! I’m currently sipping 1920 (which I was able to find in LA for $48.99!!), but also looking for a lower proof daily sipper. I recently tried the Michters bourbon at a bar and thought it was very good but it’s it’s around $45-50 here. Still on the look out for Eagle Rate but it’s nowhere to be seen. The 1910 is north of $55. So thinking either Woodford reserve dbl oak, Long Branch, or just basic Buffalo trace? Any advice greatly appreciated!!
Bowman distilleries only uses there own mash and their own juice. They are owned by Sazarac but they no longer source from anyone. I confirmed this for a second time when I visited the distillery in Fredericksburg a week ago.
I’d love to find Eagle Rare for $30-$40. If (and a big if) you can find it anywhere here, it’s a minimum $70. Evidently both availability and price vary wildly by state or location within a state. I’m typing this early September 2022. Don’t know when your video was made. Prices have gone crazy post pandemic
Would you please explain the difference between the Bowman Brothers Bourbon and the John Borman Bourbon? I've had the Bowman Brothers and I can taste the Buffalo Trace origins and the rye lift. With a couple of drops of water, it mellows out nicely. I'm wondering if the slight increase in the John Bowman is worth it over the Bowman Brothers? For reference, here are other whiskeys that are regulars on my bar: Cooper Craft 100 is the best buy and a regular on my bar. Russells 10 yr old OF 1910, OF 1920, OF 1915, OF BIB, and Elijah Craig small batch 94, and EW 86 proof single barrel. And any bottle that catches my attention/ ,
Bowman brothers is the small batch which goes for like 38.00 and is more widely available. The jj bowman is single barrel and has been often compared to a poor man’s blantons. Although idk how it makes the list here caise the cheapest I’ve ever seen in for around delaware/south jersey is 65.00. It’s hard to come by in most areas cause its a Virginia distillery. Pretty decent stiff though.
It is weird. You are usually about $5 more a bottle but OF 1910 around here is $55 but it is one of if not my favorite. Eagle Rare is about the only other one I have seen on the shelf and that was only once and I picked one up and have not opened it yet.
Great video - sipping on some Russel’s 10 as I watch this! These are some hard-hitting bottles for the price. I’m in a bit of a “budget-conscious” phase right now and I still haven’t had the Cooper’s Craft, so maybe that will be my next pickup
Cooper's Craft is not available in Illinois, nor that John Bowman single barrel. I had one bottle years ago and it was good, but it has been absent from our area for a long time now.
My local Safeway has Eagle Rare for $35.99. My local liquor store has it for a laughable $129. Yup. $129!!!!! They have Blanton's when it's in stock for $115. Riddle me that one.....
That's insane. I just got a bottle of it yesterday for 38 bucks and no taxes in Oregon on top of that, so pretty good deal. I would never pay over 50 for it, much less 130! But for 38 bucks? All day. Very smooth and dark.
Hey guys I recently purchased a early times bib it’s alcohol forward no taste just a nasty taste couldn’t taste nothing like that you and your wife talked about can you steer me in the right direction thanks
Great list, wish I could get Coopers craft, JJ Bowman or any version of Old Forrester over here (in Denmark). Eagle rare and EH Taylor is both pretty easy to get however and is both really lovely. Thanks for a great channel :-)
