A quick chit-chat video highlighting 6 reasons why I love living in the UK! I moved here 8 years ago from the US and I've been loving life here ever since. This list is based solely on my experiences, living outside of London, in the countryside.
ps. I lost track of my list when I was filming, so the numbers aren't necessarily aligned...hahaha. Next time!

One of our children had a number of operations to save their eyesight, they were performed by a leading expert in the field. The only cost over several months treatment was a few pounds for the car park whilst I waited each time.

Many countries offer the type of Health Care and Leave provisions you mention....it is very similar here in NZ, and Australia too. The USA is the only 'First World' nation not to offer some type of universal healthcare and its employee rights legislation is abysmal. The issues you highlight are common to many US citizens who relocate to another country and it seems that only once they leave, do they realise how awful it really was. @JMO you're not really being honest about how it works, not everyone is getting same day appointments, you have to phone the surgery as soon as they open in the morning and the lines are jammed with patients, all the slots are gone in 30 minutes at my surgery and many others I have used. The wait for a pre booked appointment is around 4 weeks nationally.

I lived and worked in the US for 14 years. I am sure the health insurance we pay in the UK in axes is much less than insurance in the US. In the US doctors need to pay malpractice insurance, insurers take profits and must pay their shareholders. Also, doctors, hospitals, etc do more work than is really necessary to cover themselves. Despite that, we did experience malpractice by our US paediatrician who missed a problem our son had. The problem was picked up immediately when we returned to the UK.

I appreciate your positivity and kind words in your appraisal of the UK. It’s rather galling to constantly hear the criticism from both within the indigenous population and also an ever increasing number of immigrants. Nobody is forced to choose making this country their home, or even in regards to staying here. Madam, you are exactly the kind of person that we are pleased to welcome, so naturally, a sincere desire for a continuation of your positive experience and to carry on enjoying your new home, whilst remaining pleased with your decision to have settled here. I am the first to concede that we are by no means perfect, nor is the nation as a whole, but comparatively, and from someone who has travelled extensively and spent prolonged periods of time in a variety of countries with a plethora of cultures and diverse populations. I can honestly say that we have a lot to be thankful for. It is crucial that anyone visiting a foreign country with the intent of making a move one of permanence to embrace and familiarise themselves with its people and customs, without the necessity of losing their own identity . There is a dual aspect to the act of tolerance. Good luck and best wishes.

I think the lack of violence is determined where one lives. Where I'm from (Portsmouth, is pretty violent) and where I've moved to in Wiltshire has some pretty violent places too. It's not entirely true that you pay for healthcare through your taxes. Yes, that's how it works for the vast majority, however you could never work a day in your life, never pay any income tax, and yet you would still have access to the same free healthcare. I am currently taking a work break - I've had just over 13 months off in the last 16 months (I did 3 months as a favour to my previous employer in June/July/August). I am self funding my break, but for those 13 months I have paid no income tax or National Insurance into the system, however I am still eligible for the same free healthcare as everyone else...

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but as a rule you only have 20 paid holidays and more gained with length of employment. the 8 bank holidays are NOT required to be paid, that is at the discretion of the employer. you are only entitled to the 8 bank holidays off but most (not all) employers pay them.

The trouble with the Government protecting green spaces, is that they get to decide what areas are sold to their friends and built on. There used to be what was called 'the green belt' a 'protected' area around London used for parks, gardens, etc. More recently is was called 'the green chain' (half destroyed) and I haven't heard it mentioned for ten years now.

Boris Johnson cares nothing for green spaces, they are nothing but a commodity in his view to be used for 'development' regardless of how unpopular it may be with locals.

Exactly, they're paying for healthcare in all 3 ways. Insurance, bills AND taxes!!! Don't be fooled into think no American isn't paying taxes towards healthcare, cos they are, by a LOT! (US government spends $10,000 per person out of taxes and yet you still gotta pay for insurance and then depending on the insurance, the medical bills on top. UK government spends a far low roughly $4,000 per person from taxes and its.... free!

@@GirlNotAfraid It shouldn't be free though...funding the wishes and dreams of prospective parents takes funding that would otherwise be available for treatments to keep people alive, or improve their health. @@Penguin_of_Death Bit harsh. If someone can't have children it would usually be because of a medical condition.I think you will find most NHS trusts will provide one IVF treatment for free and then you pay for any further treatment.I have a problem with people who go abroad for cheap cosmetic surgery and then come back to the UK to get it put right after it went tits up.What about obese people who end up getting diabetes and cost the NHS billions of pounds a year for their treatment.
