GREAT information here. Thank you! Even a local bee keeper cuts his honey and feeds his bees sugar water. That was the last time I purchased from him.

That is scary! And yet another great question to be armed with when you buy from a beekeeper that you can ask directly.

@@SpiraeaHerbs I was very interested in the process and the keeper showed me into a room where customers do not go and that is where I saw enormous pails of the incriminating ingredients. I didn't ask him what their use was, I already knew about cutting the honey and feeding the bees sugar. Sadly, the sugar he used isn't organic. What a terrible injustice to the bees and to his customers. I forgot to mention that I do us plant identification app, but then I follow up with a further identification in books. I would never use only one source. Thank you for the book recommendation, I have order it to add to my many resources.

@@jojow8416 I do know some beekeepers do this (feeding their bees sugar water). Thankfully I knew to ask for that, but I am glad you brought it up so folks reading the comments also know as well! I also use Google Lens at times, but I always use my book at my final reference point!

Yes yes yesss, all teas , herbs, water, seasonings, ALOT of things, are not all made equal. Definitely want good quality. Now i did not about the cutting honey 🍯, i wasnt surprised bc even legally they allow so much bad stuff in the things we use , beyond food. And we absolutely cant trust that every supplier is as natural and truly organic as they may seem. I also remember when i was got reminded of a farmers market and went, and im sure ones in farm communities are WAY better. I live in the city 🏙️. But this was a great herb video of tips, i agree with everything you said and even learned a new book at the end. Like you said, good old fashion knowledge! (Hosea 4:6) Id like to add also, doing your research on herbs. Reactions and side effects. ESPECIALLY if youre pregnant and or on medications.

Well to be honest, all of the farmers out here travel to the cities to do markets because their sales are higher! So you probably have the same access if not better than I do. Lol And yes, researching and understanding contraindications and side effects of plants is so important. Thanks for taking the time to watch my vide and to leave a comment. It is always appreciated.

I want to address a comment below about winter feeding bees sugar syrup. For the purposes of this conversation im going to speak ONLY of honest beekeepers (usually smaller producers) who produce natural, raw honey for sale. I'm a beekeeper. I know hundreds of beekeepers. We ALL must feed our bees in the winter or they will starve to death. You are not eating the sugar water. You are eating honey the bees have produced in the natural nectar flow season. We leave most of the honey for the bees in the fall, taking only a reasonable percentage each season. (In a bad season, that could be NONE for us) but if the winter is long and warm, or has many ups and downs in temperature, the bees will use all their stores and die before nectar flows in the spring. We feed them to keep them healthy and strong. Then we stop feeding long before the summer honey is produced. HOWEVER, some beekeepers do feed high fructose corn syrup. I dont because i believe it is worse for the bees (just as it is for people). Even so, an honest beekeeper is not cutting the honey, and the consumer never gets the sugar syrup. So please don't be fooled either way. Dont buy honey that's been cut, but don't hear "they feed sugar syrup" and think that's somehow a shortcut or that that ends up in your honey. Worker bees live about three weeks during the honey season. The bees that ate the sugar syrup in the fall and winter are long gone before the next crop of honey is produced. ❤

Thank you so much for your insight and sharing your experience. It is always valuable to hear directly from someone in the industry so we can understand why certain practices are in place. And I agree, an honest beekeeper doesn't cut their end product!

Dont you have a governmental food control in Canada and laws and regulations for producing conventional and organic food, nutrients, herbs and so on? Were I live, a company or farm, little or big, that is certified in organic farming will not use pesticides, fungicides, herbicides because if it does it will loose its certificate and without it cant sell its products anymore. No organic farmer will poison his or her land. To fight a fungus or e.g. bug attack they use organic means not chemicals. To farm organic is a lifestyle, a mindset, a decision not made by monetary but by environmental and sustainable considerations. Of course they need to earn money but in a responsible, conscientious and honest way. Money is not the impetus for organic farming, love for nature and the will to maintain an environment all creatures are able to live in healthy is. I noticed in your videos, in this one as well, that you use a lot of plastic, e.g. this vinegar containers. I would recommend to avoid these and only buy in glas bottles, especially acidic stuff like vinegar that might dissolve chemicals out of the plastic containers. I would support companies that sell herbs or dried berries in "green" sustainable packaging instead of plastic bags whos plasticizer dissolve into the product it contains. I dont have a smartphone, so no Apps, only books are involved in my foraging wild herbs. Best wishes, WH

Yes we do have government food control, but these are also the same organizations that allow glyphosate to be sprayed on our foods so there's that. I wish the regulations were a strict here as they are in European countries, but they allow a lot of thing to pass as "food" that aren't actually that at all. And yes that is why I mentioned purchasing organic and being certain because they have standards they must meet. However, it is important to note (at least here in Canada), there is still a list of "acceptable" chemicals that fall under organic standards so that is important to understand as well.
