Went to go pickup some new wheels for my grey cummins today, figured I should take the 06 blue cummins with the g56 manual transmission. Honestly dont know what clutch is in this truck, but it sure does shift quick and easy!
Granny shifting....not double clutching like you should...and now me and the mad scientist need to rip apart the block and replace those piston rings you fried
Is this a 3500? Sounds good! I'm more of a muscle car guy myself, thinking about swapping the 6 speed from the 2500 into my 1500. Manual with my 5.7 Hemi would be super fun to drive!
I have an 08 with the 6.7 and a manual trans. MB G-56, as the internet says, and shifting that truck is not NEARLY that swift and smooth. I'd like to know what might make the difference.
To me, it feels like the syncros are taking their time. It has 150K on it. Maybe it's a different animal than what you're driving. I imagine fluid might make it quieter, but I'm real curious as to how you can overfill it, and what that might do to help. This is my first Dodge, and I'm not familiar with how they tend to run. I'll take anything you can share.
I overfill it to insure the input shaft bearing is lubricated at idle and long steep hill climbs. Just fill through shifter hole. Syncros seem to go in easier with the lighter oil in my experience.
There's been a whole lot of chatter about the gear oil for this particular transmission. Dodge/Chrysler says ATF4 is 'good enough', but Mercedes Benz has a very different opinion. I've had it only four days, and I'm already feeling like I want to trade it away. I'm grateful for the advice. Maybe I got into a machine that had some abuse before I got it.
Curious, what in your opinion is the best Cummins to buy? I am looking to buy here soon. I own a tree business so I will be hauling some heavy loads. Lol
cole vivian if you switching to a ram make sure you get a manual cause the auto sucks bad. And if you’re switching from a 6.0 the auto ram will be super slow compared to what you’re used to. I got a 2016 6.7 with the 68rfe I’ll be trading it in after just one year of use. Very disappointed in the performance of the auto the ram did not live up to expectations at all. I’ll be test driving a g56 in the 6.7 today I’m done with this auto it’s trash.
Thats so badass dude! Im dying to buy my first cummins! Im 17 rn and saving for my first cummins looking for a 2nd gen 12v (12v over 24v for rolling coal haha) i cant wait!
