30 And A Wake Up ... hi, overall, the list is okay 👌.. just a few notes, the durian thingy, only applicable to hotels and offices.. not houses especially when most families have durians in their own household 😁 of course it’s good manners to ask if you’re visiting people’s home before bringing it though 👍 Another note on umbrella thingy, to each his/her own of course... Malaysian are quite adaptable to it and we do have the rainy season so we usually do bring it during that season and not everyday 😁😁 Great video and thank you

another few never do's in Malaysia 1. Wear appropriately when entering religious place, goverment offices to show some respect 2. Try not to wear many jewelry on the road, and do not walk alone in the dark if you do so. 3. Malaysian beach are not bikini friendly, if you do so, make sure there is no one around. About never bring durian indoor only apply to the hotel, restroom or public place, but when you come to local people house, please bring more than you want😉
Vape too.. but you can smoke@vape at least 3 meter away from the restaurants or dining places... its mean you are allow to smoke outdoor.. not around the dining people(kids, preggy women, families etc).. if you do not follow this good smoke/vape ethiquete, malaysian people dining around you will stare at you berjemaah(altogether)... ...haha... Actually, this is not apply in other country, when i am use to be with this rule, when i am dining on abroad vacation, people just vaping next to my family's table... we can eat food inside coffee@strawberry mist mix together..haha🤪

Here's some more tips: - when crossing the road, some vehicles may flash their lights, DO NOT CROSS as it means "get out of the way". Use your hand (✋) instead to make the vehicles stop. - if you are driving, beware of drunk driver especially at night and please don't drive when you're drunk. - don't shake hands with opposite sex unless they offer first. - wear appropriate clothes when visiting religious places - don't use your tourist privileges here, we don't care. In other words, we respect you so we expect the same in return - you can no longer smoke at the restaurants Enjoy your stay!

When crossing a busy road in malaysia, dont just walk and cross the road. You will get hit by car or motorcycle. Use the power of the hand✋. Its like an x-men thingy in malaysia. Hahahahaha.
To put into use the "talk to the hand" technique more graciously & politely, put your hand (palm) out open facing outwards at your eye / forehead level. As if you were loosely saluting people a gesture of which mimicking asking for permission from motorists to give way to you.

Too funny about the shoes. I lived in the US for 12 years. Being from Canada most people don't wear their shoes in the house. We had to put a sign up for my American friends because we could not understand and to this day I don't get it why people would want to wear their dirty shoes inside on carpet or any flooring. Japan is the same which again makes sense.
Personally I always have a “mud room” that’s the room in the home where you take off your shoes, filthy clothes, etc., leave the mud there do not bring it into the home. I can’t understand why people will bring dirt into the home. Use the mud room, people.

First, about the durians, yes. It is not allowed in the hotel but it is most welcomed in almost all malaysian's houses. If you want to bring some as a gift, you might considered buying 'Musang King' or D29 durians. Please bring at least 10 at least for us to completely satisfied. Secondly, about the umbrella. Actually it just a coincidence malaysians braught an umbrella because most of us are often forget about it. You will be lucky if you have one standby inside of your car. If you wont, dont be shamed because it is normal. Well, I am malaysian and I am proud of my country.

Little tips In Malaysia, when you mentioned the umbrella, YES you should always carry an umbrella around cause you can't trust the rain, when it rain once and it stops raining, it will start raining the second time, it's pretty annoying, but it can be relaxing. Tip two, NEVER use your left hand, especially when your eating, only use it when your cleaning up after your going to the bathroom, use your right hand instead. Tip three If it's your first time being in Malaysia, please, try to get used to eating with your hands, it's okay if you do want to, but it will consider to show respect. And don't be embarrassed about it. Tip four No cursing, if you want to, do it somewhere else, not in public, it can be very embarrassing. Tip five No drugs or alcohol, yes you can smoke there, but don't do it when you see a sign saying, no smoking. Tip six Don't wear clothes that is reveling, it's disrespectful and disgusting to others who are Muslim, wear jeans, sweaters, etc but just no reveling clothes. Tip seven Don't celebrate Christmas, Halloween, thanks giving, happy fourth of July, in Malaysia, we only celebrate Hari Raya, Chinese new year/ lunar new year, Malaysia day, kids day, teachers day, mother's/father's day, and more that I can't even remember. So please don't do that, it can be VERY embarrassing.

Yep. If food and/or drinks are presented to a visitor but the the visitor is choosing not to bother the host or simply is fulled, just finish off the drinks n taste the food just a bit. It is to honour n to give face to the host. Most importantly in so doing, it would be a subtle act of doa (prayer to Allah) by the visitor wishing blessing, more rezki (sustanance), n prosperity for the host's household. Ultimately, it is only naturally makes sense n common decency n good manners of the visitor.
for some clarification, durian not allowed bring into a hotel only, other than that pretty everyone don't care. Usually, durian is allowed in homestay otherwise it will be explicitly stated.
Hi! This is my first time seeing this youtube channel.I am always ready to watch Malaysian-about videos! ;D I am Muslim and Im from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. You missed ONE MORE THING 7 : Don't eat in front of Muslims and Peoples When its "Bulan Puasa" Its where you fast And DONT EAT until its evening. It is "Fasting Month" and i probably would say that it would be more nice and appropriate if you eat when its evening. Because in our country,Fasting ends when its evening and they eat Kurma which i cant eat bc i dont like it very much😂 (Im 9 years old) And of course you can eat but i probably would eat queitly and not Very secretly but just dont eat too open..It makes people hungry and can't resist. And also Yes,Of course you can buy foods anytime and even before evening.People in malaysian sometimes often buys food before its Evening (Before its time to eat after Fasting basically) And eat it when its time. For me,sometimes i cant resist so i eat for two days and more.Because its not really like " YOU SHOULD FAST IF YOU ARE MUSLIM,EVEN A KID" I mean of course you should and could because other people are fasting too and its disrespectful to just openly eating food in front of them. But as kids,we can skip of course sometimes but we dont skip always or every day! Thats all i have to tell you! THANKS FOR READING THIS EVEN IF IT LONGER THAN YOUR HOMEWORK

Haha most of what happens in Malaysia is the opposite of whatever you said.. we carry durians indoor and we eat them regardless of smell, we throw stuff over people's head to our mates, we have pda but not in general public, probably in cars parked around a garden. The shoes are definitely something we are not supposed to wear indoors, not everyone wears shoes indoors, lol, and if you find malaysian citizens a little noisy 👌, well that's because most of us are afterall loud mouths bahaha. @@30AndAWakeUp I'm curious, you mentioned earlier that you're planning on going to Bangkok, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines... so, are you staying in Malaysia after having your teeth done in Bangkok?
Bringing food including durian to someone's home is considered a good gesture...but not to Hotel room because we dont want our guest to feel uncomfortabe. You can show your affection like kissing and hugging (not french kiss though) but not exesscively. Thing to add is, never point your index finger directly towards someone's face...it is insulting!
I am Malaysian. Born, bred, schooled etc by Malaysians in Malaysia. I am a Malay ethnically, a Muslim on the religion side. But the last one on your list, the umbrella, I never give a hoot about umbrellas-I don't buy umbrellas, I don't keep umbrellas, I don't care umbrellas. If it rains, well, it rains, and I get wet if I don't find shelter fast enough. I was born and raised in Kedah (northern West Malaysia near Thailand) where playing in the rain was a hobby as a kid, rain doesn't kill. Been that way my whole Malaysian life umbrella-wise. The rest in the list, OK, the durian thing, I wouldn't worry too much. Certainly there are places in Malaysia where durians are prohibited indoors (hotels, office buildings, stadiums, hospitals, airplanes, buses etc) but most Malaysians have no problem if you bring durians in their homes, they love eating durians if you are willing to share with them. Not just durians, the jackfruit has a smell that sickens you too if exposed to it far too long, like in a bus, it too is banned in certain areas in Malaysia. I love mangoes but I can't stand the smell for hours on end like in a bus (especially the kuini and bacang varieties). I am Malaysian, been Malaysian all my life. Touching the head, yes a NO NO, probably most serious social offense in Malaysia. Shoes in house, yes, definitely a no no. Others not on your list: (1) Do not offer your handshake to a Muslim man or woman if you are of opposite sex. But I will shake the hand of a woman if she extends it to me, just I don't want to upset her. I myself will not extend my handshake to a woman that is not a close blood relative allowed by Islam. But not all Muslims like me. Don't get offended if a Malaysian Muslim person of opposite sex refuses to accept your handshake; he/she not trying to offend you but just trying to live up to the religious etiquette. (2) Dogs -- do not bring a dog into a Malaysia Muslim's home. (3) We clean our butts with water, using the left hand, after taking a crap (sorry for my language - well, after emptying the bowels). So don't ask for toilet paper in Malaysian home, especially Malay Malaysian home. These days, many public places don't provide toilet papers don't be shocked: when in Malaysia, shit like a Malaysian! (Haha!)
Great reply! Yeah, I need to embrace the rain more! The things you added to the list are in my new Malaysia video! I updated this video based on comment's from Malaysians. For ladies, don't simply walk with your bags hanged over right shoulder while walking along the left hand traffic direction. Enable easy target by snatch thief from behind. Happened few times in front of me. And do not simply leave your phone or wallet on the table while chilling at local restaurants. Somebody might snatch them.

You can actually read the clouds if the rains are coming. When the clouds above you gets pretty dark-ish. Its definitely coming in the next 5-10 minutes (depending on the color, the lighter it is, the likelihood of it coming is lesser). Dark clouds don't linger around you here like other countries. If no sign of rain is coming, it should be clear blue skies and sunny hot weather.

When ask people (Malaysian) for their names, you may also wanna ask for their preferred or exact names. Avoid from just call them with their last names. For Malay Bumiputra, the last name is usually the Dad's name. Chinese names can be three words, but u can ask for their maiden names. Indian names can be found quite long, but they always simplify or abbreviate their name into short names. (Formal situation) Just ask the name they usually tell the cashier at Starbucks to be written on their cups. (Informal situation) Don't just call by last name.

I know some 1. It's not good to visit relatives, parents, friends with bare hands (eg like no gifts or foods) 2.Malaysia is not a place where you could wear clothes which exposes the stomach or even a bikini 3.Wear good clothes when visiting religious places like the mosque or temple Wearing shorts or like normal tshirt is showing that you are rude at the religious place 4. Never flex at Malaysia The risk of your belongings to get stolen are very high at here especially at night 5. If your walking home It's best to walk with your friends or walk where there is more people so that if anything bad happens to you there will be witnesses So far thats what I know
It's okay to walk in the rain and get soaked. But never run in the rain.. it's even more dangerous if you slipped on the slippery floor. Rain won't kill you, that careless slip will.
I did try it! I'm not sure if it was awful or not - I couldn't get past the smell. I tried the ice cream as well but same issue. The smell just made it inedible!

Do not decline when offered food. This is especially true when you visit or are invited to someone's home. If you dont feel like eating it for whatever reason, just take it with you to go (local say 'tapau') and throw it away once you've left the vicinity. You are not obligated to return the gesture. However, similar to western culture BYOB but rather instead of beer or wine, you could buy some fruits (or some of those local roadside stall snacks like the banana fritter) as a show of gratitude for the host.

Jalan alor offers some really good food, but the problem with tourists is when they have no idea about what they are eating...I would advise tourists to do a bit of homework on what foods we have here and what goes into the recipes. 90% of tourists know nothing except Satay, rendang and Nasi Lemak. And one more thing. do not assume that every snack that is green is made with pandan leaves...sometimes its just food colouring.

I have an uncle who's a taxi driver. He said taxi driver can hiked up their meters. I wouldnt suggest hailing a taxi out of no where. Just use grab. Its fair and square.
Good advice. I love Grab for rides and food! Terima kasih for commenting. Also, I updated this video based on comment's from Malaysians. If you have time, check it out here and comment what you think: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mlVcW8SStxk.html
Can foreigners set up a Grab acct that uses their credit card from their home bank? Agree about the taxis - and not just Malaysia - Thailand is the absolute worst. Which is amazing since overall Thais (and Filipinos) are the nicest people on the planet. Great video. Been 2 KL each of the last 2 years; will probably go back in 2020. Any idea how the IT scene is?
@@WestCoastAce27 Yeah, you can use a credit card from your home bank. You can use Grab all over Southeast Asia including Malaysia and Thailand. It's pretty awesome in Vietnam as well.

I'm Malaysian and just sharing my humble opinion on your list... 1. Unmetred Taxi should be totally avoided. Especially those taxi who are waiting at tourist spots, shopping Malls ... they are targeting foreigners/tourist. But if you have to use metered taxi ... ensure they are uaing meter before getting in. Monitor the driver's movement too as some will add a fee more Ringgit to the metre by pressing the metre... If taxi drivers refuaing to use metre, just say thanks and look for another one... its not worth wasting time arguing with them... Use Grab and there are many other e-healing services available now amd can be paid by cash too... 2. Shoe-off ... its true👍👍👍 3. Durian ... I personally don't like it... 😁 its is true that Hotels, pulic places and public transports are restricting it because the smell is not for everyome... on the other hands, most Malaysian love them as much as they love their spouse...🤤🤤🤤 so if someone want to bring durian to their house, they will be more than happy to say "Yes... and please bring more...LOL" Because its not cheap... so, i think, its not cultural offensive, you just need to ask before bringing Durian to someones home..😁 4. Touching somebody's head is not really a cultural thing here but its more about personal /individual thing... Example: elderly touches the youger as sign of love and care... I think you are referring to hitting or pushing somebody's head right?... 5. Displying excessive PDA... you are totally correct 👍👍👍👍👍 in fact most asian countries are not use to it. 6. Bring Umbrella - always useful to have one with you👍👍👍👍👍 Hope it useful...🙏🙏🙏
I live In Malaysia and for me I can bring durian in my house. But not allowed on other places but it is allowed if you get permissions. And yes, I don't bring umbrella usually. But if it is like nearly 11 month, I would bring every day because 11 and 12 month, raining is like almost every day. 🇲🇾Malaysia's weather is not easy to think weather if it is raining or not. When it is day and everything is normal, it can rain any second. Point is, you can't confirm the weather in 🇲🇾Malaysia.
