Does intermittent fasting affect longevity? Check out these fasting tips to help you access all of the benefits of fasting.
0:00 Introduction: Longevity and fasting
0:22 Six fasting mistakes
1:15 Protein while fasting
2:35 Cholesterol while fasting
3:18 What intermittent fasting pattern should I follow?
In this video, I’m going to tell you how to fast correctly for the most fasting benefits without any negative side effects. Fasting CAN help you live longer!
Fasting activates longevity genes, which reduce inflammation and help improve conditions like diabetes and prediabetes. They also protect the cells against disease.
Avoid making these 6 fasting mistakes that can destroy your results.
1. Fasting for too long
There are 2 types of fasting: intermittent fasting and prolonged fasting. Pay attention to how you feel when fasting. If you don't feel well, the fasting pattern is not right for you. You have to build up to a prolonged fast, and you don’t have to do OMAD to get fasting benefits.
2. Not getting enough dietary protein
The type and amount of protein in your diet are very important. Animal protein is the best! Red meat, eggs, lamb, fish, seafood, and organic pasture-raised chicken are the best sources of dietary protein.
When you do OMAD, your body becomes more efficient, and the requirement for protein decreases.
3. Avoiding cholesterol
You need cholesterol, especially when fasting. Cholesterol is needed to make hormones, tissues, bile acid, and more-so you need plenty of it! Egg yolks, liver, and shellfish are the best sources of cholesterol.
4. Forcing an intermittent fasting pattern that doesn’t work for you
Let your body tell you which fasting pattern will work for you. Pay attention to how you feel.
5. Too much exercise while fasting
For some people, exercising while fasting causes too much stress on the body. This can make it difficult to recover and cause muscle loss.
6. Not getting enough sleep can minimize the benefits of fasting.

Switching it up makes me happier for sure. I've done OMAD, 2MAD, 3MAD, and prolonged fasting (up to 132 hours with water, max 69 hours dry) over the last 1.5 years. When I've tried to stick to a schedule instead of listening to my body I've been miserable.

@allhimwithme5115
@allhimwithme5115 Месяц назад
You might try switching it up for a bit as he suggested because one of the issues with OMAD and longer fasts is that cortisol can be too high from the hormetic (can be a good thing) stress on your body is at that higher level for too long. This might be what is affecting your sleep. You could go to 18:6 for awhile and incorporate more carbs (not going wild, of course), track your sleep response...I'm betting it would improve quite dramatically. I know there's fear that you'll stop the energy/weight loss train, but switching it up and slowing that train down once in awhile won't derail you.

After all these years , I now know and have known for while since following gurus online like Dr Berg ...that fasting is what has sustained me since I was young. I hardly ever craved food and only averaged eating one and half meals a day growing up. Almost never ate breakfast. Although I am sure that I was nutrient deficient , fasting has helped me look youthful with good skin and overall good health. I very seldom get sick and did not when young . Most people even now guess me 50s. I'm 70. Blessed. Fasting I believe gave me this gift and possibly genetics. My skin has very little if any wrinkles. Despite not knowing for sure what contributed to my health and skin, fasting must have contributed to my health and I belive is the fountain of youth. Getting adapted is the key. Baby step into fasting. Your cravings for food will go away. That's why Berg says Omad. My cravings and the amount of food I can eat is very low. (Omad) One meal a day... may not be for everyone , but I think you simply have to give it a chance and be patient. Many weeks and possibly several months. Listen to your body. Good Luck. Cheers to a long healthy life !!

What your body will do in terms of healing and regenerating during that time far exceeds any short term "pill" benefits. Giving your body a chance to heal instead of constantly stuffing your face is the #1 health hack bar none.

How is lamb not red meat? I find chicken breast to be relatively safe (otherwise, not eating chicken routinely) because I can replace the pretty much non-existent fat with extra virgin olive oil. This works well for salads, as do salmon and shrimp. I like to have shrimp with no oils after my workout for better protein uptake, then have a meal with fat after that. As for the actual fasting, I do best randomly skipping a day or two of eating on the weekend, and occasionally longer fasts (five days or more no more than quarterly.) The days I eat over a period of 10 hours or more are rare, so the fasting window would nearly always be over 14 hours.

There is definitely science behind fasting and relaxing. No less than 4 weeks, no more than 12 regarding strict dieting. The body will and does kick back against strict dieting over time. I’ve found that breaking a fasting routine every 6-10 weeks with a few days of x3 meals a day, and eating sweet treats or other simple carbs helps me work towards a goal, celebrate with less nutritional foods for a day or two, then back on the grind. This cycle works great for work and reward. The idea of strict eating for the rest of my life sounds daunting and the body will figure it out. Muscle loss will happen, BMR will get reduced, diet fatigue will happen.

When I did my 7 day fast, about 5 days in. I was doing 2 plates on bench like it was absolutely nothing to me. I was doing more reps and weights compared to when I was fed. I was shocked on how this was happening? Then I started doing 24 hours a week since then and I can’t lift like that no more. Any ideas?

I take acv, dr bergs electrolyte powder, dr bergs vitamin d3 & k2. Also once in a while I take some Himalayan salt. Still can't do more than 7 days or I get sick and start vomiting. Anyone else having this same problem?

Always waiting for your new video 🙏🏻✨🥰 thank you very much Dr. Berg. Again, the Great scientific explanation for better fasting 🙏🏻🥰✨ Questions : 1. why animal protein is better than plant protein? what makes the different? 2. Is the biochemistry and bio-availability of both source proteins, (animal and plants), different? 3. or the variation of amino acids, makes different ? Deeply appreciated to your answer 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Just a question 🙋‍♂️ I do fast naturally, almost always skip breakfast. But sometimes (like now) i do more serious fasting. And when I do I take electrolytes and vitamins supplements. And then I ask myself and start doubt, “why do we need supplements if this is the “right” way to eat? It’s so good but yeah you need to take alot of minerals and vitamins?

If you drink a gallon of water every day. I'd put a tsp or two of pink salt in with your water. When fasting, ya gotta make sure you have enough electrolytes to push through. Also, make sure you're hydrated. I usually drink about a gallon a day, sometimes more, sometimes less.
@jimmb1110
@jimmb1110 Месяц назад
You can do lower intensity things during fasting, only lift on days you eat and like @jacksonmatthews2018 says keep electrolytes up - pinch of salt in water.

You probably won’t see this Doctor berg but I was recently diagnosed with alcoholic neuropathy, (I am sober now) but the pain and the odd feelings it gives my body are very frightening and I feel like it affected my brain in the back crown area of my head. Does this ever go away with being sober? This doesn’t feel like much quality of life if I have to live with this forever… the ER doctor was no help at all…
@SpamMouse
@SpamMouse Месяц назад
Well done for staying sober. You will understand that the impact of alcohol over the longer term will take time to repair and reverse, I recall suggestions that various organs can take 7 years to recycle normally and that can be longer if the body is undergoing a general refurbishment overall. The ER doctor is a specialist in patching people up as an emergency response context and not a specialist in nerve damage and autophagy over the longer term recovery. DB has many videos that will carry supportive ideas that will help you if you watch them. Consider that the Medical Doctors will be biased into selling you a pill where as looking at helping the body repair itself via autophagy and diet will cause less stress upon your liver which itself will be under repair. www.youtube.com/@Drberg/search?query=Neuropathy www.youtube.com/@Drberg/search?query=Liver Good luck with your quest. 👍

Again and again, thanks millions Dr. May you make a video for fat-only 2MAD or OMAD, such as performing only 2-3 times a month, to let the body use "useless" proteins such as excess skin? With the boosted autophagy, protein problems shouldn't occur if only we don't exaggerate.

I'm so interested in prolonged fasting. I tried water fast of 16-8. Then did a 3 day water fast and didn't have any issues. But then I did 57 hr dry fast (initially I wanted to do 3 days) but I felt miserable. I had to break the fast and for two days after I had a headache which didn't go away until I had painkillers. What should I do about the headache? Also I feel very hungry although I ate food for 2 days now. The hunger is not going away

I'm thankful for all your great health tips and the knowledge you bring, Dr. Berg, your channel is truly unique. But there have been times where you were less one-sided concerning plantbased foods. Pumpkin seeds, pistachios, quinoa and chia seeds are all excellent sources of proteins and fats. By telling so many people to focus solely on eating meat you also put a lot of karma on your shoulders. Why not showing the whole picture? Blessings from Germany. 💛🙏

Please I was diagnosed with HBV and I've done series of tests and it came out mild chronic so I've been placed on medication. I'm currently taking Tenofovir and I really don't know if it's the best medicine to take and I really don't like it. I've gone back to th doctor and he said I should continue taking it without him doing a test to know the state of the virus(Nigerian doctors don't really care about these things when you're using a public hospital). So my question is, do you think I should continue taking the medicine tenofovir? I really want to apply whatever you've been saying concerning fatty liver and others but I don't know if they'll be a side effect when I stop taking the medicine...
