I love what you are doing here. As you seem to be very knowledgeable on air and moisture, I want to run by you what I did on my little 33 gal oilless compressor, and am considering doing it to my 60 gal one in my second garage. I went to my local junk PYP yard and got an AC condenser out of a huge SUV. I installed it up on the wall about 6 feet above my compressor. I installed a water trap on the input line, and the output line. I plumbed in copper from the compressor to the input separator, where air would run through the condenser, cooling it dramatically, then through the second water trap on the output of the condenser which ran through another 6 foot length of copper down to the tank. On the output of the tank I have yet a 3rd water trap for the air hose that runs whatever I'm running. I have used this setup to paint cars successfully. There is rarely ever any water that drains from the tank, and in the 3 years it's been in use, never had a drop of water in the trap at the tank output to the hose. I do drain a fair amount of water from the traps at the condenser though. I live in North Alabama, so we have very high humidity here. It's a simple setup, cost about 60 bucks for condenser, copper, and two traps from Harbor Fright. So far it is working famously.. Your thoughts?

Found this power cord for mine based on your video, so thanks! FWIW, a 20 Amp breaker is just fine for mine, and it's about 70 feet from the panel on 10-2 wire. My understanding is 30 Amp is too much, and could be bad for the motor. FLA of 17.2 x 25% or 30% is a shade over 20, but again, I've never tripped it. If it was a problem, I was going to switch to a 25 Amp breaker.

The first two links below are for pressure loss of compressed air due to pipe length and fittings(at standard conditions of 70°F). For a 60 gal tank and pretty much any system from 50-175psi and 10-30 cfm, pressure loss due to fittings and pipe is nearly negligible when utilizing 3/4 pipe or even 1/2 pipe (slighter higher with 1/2 pipe). I say that not to be a know-it-all, I just want to share some data for people trying to plan out their system like me. I almost switched my entire plan away from a copper pipe zig-zag setup of 50' of copper and many elbows, to look into the coil 1/2" coil setup as shown in this video, after hearing that a 90° elbow can induce up to 5psi loss. After some research that pressure loss is not an issue for my 175psi 11.5 cfm 60gal tank. That high of a pressure loss for elbows and/or pipe *only* applies for incorrectly designed systems with high cfms(50+cfms) at high pressures moving through undersized pipes. I've seen first hand setups that have more than (25) 90° elbows and 60 feet of copper that only experience a few psi of loss, which is in line with the data below. The last link is a calculator where you can increase the temperature to well over 100°F and get a more accurate idea of pressure loss. Even at higher temperatures, the pressure loss is minimal. This video is still an amazing resource and the coil setup here is certainly much easier and probably just as, if not more, efficient than any other system. An exceptional video. Well explained. So many pertinent references. I so appreciate your production and that you shared it with us. I am a Master of many things. Air Design is not one of them. I just got a Media Blaster cabinet. I have a DeWalt 60 gallon compressor. Do you think I would need the extra (ingenious) dryer piece with the coil? I am worried about space. I love the video thank you. I wonder about your electrician. My area code prohibits white colored wire when it’s supplying one leg of 250v circuit That one white wire should then be taped on the end with black tape to indicate it’s a supply wire. Leaving it white is dangerous as Someone might mistake it as a neutral wire.

this video is beautifully done. but i need your help, is there anyway you can tell me what the threading sizes are on the main line compression fittings are?the silver line that goes from the exhaust on the pump directly to to the top of the tank. the compression sleeves on those are flanged and i cant for the life of me find replacements to get my compressor up and running. any help you might be able to offer would be an amazing help.

How well does 60 gallons work with a harbor freight sandblast cabinet? Typically only blasting nothing more complex than vehicle wheels and automobile / off-road vehicle parts... thanks!

It works extremely well, as long as the air is dry! The only limitation is waiting on the compressor, if you're doing a ton of work at one time. I'm not typically blasting more than 30 minutes at a time. I have the smaller of the two HF cabinets, as you see in this video. It needs some mods to make it a good box, but it does exactly what I need it to.

Any concerns that your air compressor is 155psi max yet the fist 3/4 valve right off the tank is only rated for 150psi?

I was asking because I'm new to all of this and my compressor is 175psi max and I don't know if that is still doable on a 150max valve, considering the regulator is past the valve and the valve being right off the tank it will see that full pressure...

@@Thomas998822 Most air tools are rated for a max PSI of around 120, which is why I don't typically go beyond 100 when I'm working. Yes, my regulators could bring it down to 100 if I wanted them to, but I'm not doing constant work and therefore don't rely on my compressor to auto-shut itself off. If that's a concern for you, you could put a regulator right off the compressor before you begin your piping.

Your compressor is way too close to the wall, there's a fan back there that's pushing air over the air pump, and you're not really giving it enough room to breathe. Otherwise, this video was super helpful.

That may be what the mfg wants, but this is a case where an instruction booklet meets real-life work situations and space constrictions: I'm not wasting another 10 inches of precious floor space in a 2-car garage if I don't have to! Fortunately, my work allows for the duty cycle to be low, so heat is not an issue for me. Others who use their compressor for hours at a time may need to follow your advice. Thanks for the compliment!

It does really well! I've had zero issues with it thus far. I do try to do regular oil changes on it (~twice a year), and I don't let air/moisture sit in the tank when I'm not using it for a prolonged period of time. I don't base those actions on any hard facts, just feel better doing it and hope it improves longevity. My only limitation is my location: I live in a suburb with houses close to one another, so I have to put in some thought about when I turn it on and for how long I use it so that I don't tick off my neighbors with the noise too much.

@@lsxjunkie Before I installed a metering valve, I'd turn on the compressor and fill it up, blast for about 5 minutes at 90psi before the compressor would kick on, and it would stay on for about 4-5 minutes. I would never have to wait on it. Now, I can blast at a lower psi so that the air lasts a lot longer. So yes, it's just fine for what I'm doing!
