And I went through this whole game up to Very Hard and just discovered that dodging makes you invincible for long enough to evade those attacks that were hard to run from. ...Well, I guess I learned this the hard way.
Amiam LP As Epsilon said, jump and light attack now that I've experimented myself. Don't worry, it's not a stupid question. It doesn't explain how or why you should do it at all, which is a little weird. Its pretty hard to dodge some attacks though.
This whole fight really hits me hard in certain places... Raiden fully embodies Sam even upon his death - the way he's disarmed yet still fights on, how Raiden uses all of his limbs to injure Armstrong just like how Sam doesn't fully rely on his sword but with judo kicks, and of course the 'lets dance' upon holding his sword
You know, the song "It had to be this way" is not referring to Armstrong and Raiden but to Sam and Raiden, Sam's rage and thirst for vengeance lead him to lose while Raiden remembered the reasons of why he fights as the game progreses, carving his path to his final decision to end the war economy creating his own war (like Armstrong but with less mass genocide). And in the lyrics it's almot like you see them argue with each other about the purpose of the whole thing.
@@hm64153 im a big fan of dark souls and i've completed all of those games countless times but this boss just... killed me more than any boss i've ever fought
All these years later, as I'm finally playing this classic myself, it's incredible to me the way that people have discovered all sorts of tech for acing the boss fights, things like sky high cancelling, that you can ignore Armstrong throwing the debris by running under it - and here's you, you mad beautiful bastard, just saying, "I would simply have perfect mechanical execution, every time." Bravo!
@@zellodine4708 Short version; perform Sky High (forward > forward > light attack), then as quickly as you can jump, enter and exit blade mode, repeat. Long version; Sky High is one of the hardest-hitting moves in the game, with an appropriately long recovery time, which you cannot blade mode cancel out of. But, because Sky High is a launcher, you CAN jump out of the recovery; the intent is that you launch an enemy with Sky High, then jump after them for an air combo. But you can cancel a jump with Blade Mode, so you Sky High, hop, blade mode, Sky High again, and... Well, executed quickly enough it'll drop Armstrong from 200% health to 55% in ~40 seconds. WITHOUT Ripper Mode. See ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uchvdmAdR6Q.html for a demonstration.
Watching this version of the fight makes it seem like a movie, where the overpowered villain is beating the shit outta the hero, but soon after the hero obtains the "ultimate weapon," the hero turns the tables and fucking destroys the villain. It's actually pretty damn cathartic.
Hey, crees qué en la pelea el tenía la Katana de Alta Frecuencia mejorada al máximo? Estoy intentando pasarlo en modo Revengeance sin la Katana De Alta Frecuencia mejorada, SORRY, i dont speak English, help me :(
@@jesusprada7262 "Hey, do you think he had the high frequency Katana upgraded to the maximum?" "I'm trying to get through it on Revengeance mode with out the upgraded high frequency Katana, LO SIENTO, no hablo Inglés, ayuda :("
I think Armstrong's lines during the fight really humanize him beyond the generic bad guy. Saying things like "Fuck this war, I just want you dead" and "This is the greatest fight of my life" really add to his character
the main thing in difficulty changes for boss battles seems to be the amount of damage you take and give. The moves all stay the same and if they're less spaced out it's barely noticeable. the main thing when i try to play on Hard or revengence is that there is more enemies that you actually need to give a more focus to, such as Geckos, LQ-84s, or mastiffs
+Droid96 I played the game at every difficulty, and i do not think that's true. You can clearly notice a difference in how the enemy attacks during the RAY Boss Battle. Sure, the main difference is damage output, input and the number of enemies, but i think ther AIs also change as difficulty raises.
The bosses themselves also have different attack properties, like how Monsoon launches way more vehicles at you, or how Armstrong can send multiple ground waves with each punch instead of just one.
I swear the survival part is the hardest out of all of them in Revengeance difficulty because of sheer oneshot. The fact you can keep surviving but then he just straight 180s you with a quick grab, or delays it and fucks up your muscle memory. I swear I've spent more time on the survival part than the actual fight...
3:10 - 3:20 ; 3:30 - 3:40 - 2.7% 6:35 - 6:41 - 51.7% Did the Nanomachines forget to harden or something? This made me think up a theory being that Armstrong's main weakness is that he cannot both attack and defend at the same time, since the hardening of the nanomachines either occurs automatically at the area of impact for defense, or manually at the hands/legs/head for offense. And the manual, a.k.a offensive algorythm overrides the defensive one when activated. This is why you can deal insane damage with counterattacks, the nanomachines are "busy" powering up the arms
I like to think of it the same way the nanomachine iron man suit works in infinity war, majority of the nano machines were destroyed so there were not enough to defend him, like when tony gets stabbed in the abdomen by thanos
It's not really a theory, Doktor confirms that this is how nanomachines work. They rearrange his atoms but there are only so many atoms to rearrange. Sam also kind of figures this out when he cuts off his hand.
i think the best way to think of it is like hardening from attack on titan. it can only focus on one function at a time. if a titan is busy beating shit up with hardened fists, it leaves the neck open and defenseless
This is Revengeance mode. Even at max 200% health he one shots you no matter the attack, basic or unblockable so in terms of this fight alone, it really means nothing but in terms of the rest of the game, yes that's pretty damn amazing
Your father watching you play: "So who's the bad guy?" You: "We are, Dad. You and me. We're the bad guy." Your father: *[confusion]* In all seriousness, during their time it was a tad simpler to tell. Or so I hear.
Props for not cheesing the survival part. I was stuck on it for over half an hour before deciding to look up an easier strat (run away and jump over him)
There's really no cheese strat as far as I know, you either knock his health down enough to trigger the QTE or dodge him for around 2-3 minutes. It took him around 2:30 minutes of punching Armstrong either way, so I guess jumping and running away/ dodging until the next phase starts is safer.
@@christheplayer99 on revengeance difficulty it's a 2:30 timer, at which point he does an attack that's guaranteed to hit you and a cutscene plays. Running away from him and jumping over his dashing attacks is the easiest way to survive this as all of his attacks can be jumped over on the same timing, which is more forgiving than dodges. I consider this a cheese as it's much easier than blocking and dodging all of his attacks from up close
@@textoffender3410 blocking isn't really an option if you're going for an S rank, as blocking while unarmed still damages you, just like if you parry MG Excelsus' attacks. So it's either jump and pray or dodge and pray lol.
As far as I can tell, nanomachines do not act on their own. They depend on their host's concentration. During second fight Armstrong was confident and could focus nanomachines in any direction with ease. During this QTE? Armstrong was struggling and couldn't focus on his side because he was too busy focusing on his right arm so Raiden could easily make a combo there. Without nanomachines protecting him he is just a human with muscle.
@@XurenChao I agree with your theory but I also have another theory, raiden is a cyborg who can fully learn and adapt to things easily than a normal human. What if he adapts or connects to a weapon he uses? My only evidence for this when he holds Sam's sword you can see he kinda shakes and then says let's dance. Now when he connected with Sam's sword it could be possible that raiden acquired the extra strength and power when connected to Sam's blade. It could also be why he did so much damage at 6:28. Remember Sam's blade is heavily powerful and fully upgraded. That sword has been passed down and upgraded to the point where it can cut anything. Its frequency is powerful. Lastly it can show if raiden is connected to Sam's blade he can do major damage without it.
@@XurenChao I don't believe it was a concentration issue. The nanomachines had a weakness and it was the amount of energy they consume, the longer the fight went on the less effective the would become. That's why near the end of the fight both of his arms were damaged despite the fact that Armstrong was concentrating the nanomachines in them to attack. On the other side Raiden's fighting style was perfect for the endurance type enemy that is Armstrong. Because rather than focussing all his power in a single blow like Sam, he would attack different parts of the body forcing the nanomachines to react and thus consuming energy.
You know what I realized when the sun came up behind Raiden in the final scene and Armstrong was lying down it looked like he was Raiden’s shadow and a symbolism that Raiden is the new warrior that would replace Armstrong
This will always be my favorite final boss. The build up to this fight is just immaculate. Starting with fighting another metal gear and thinking that Armstrong himself is gonna be nothing but lord was I so wrong 😂. Getting your ass kicked by him (including him just snapping your sword like a twig.) is just such a good way to bring in that final battle. Raiden unsheathing the Murasama and carrying on Sam’s legacy will always be the best part of this final battle. 10 years later and this game will still forever hold a special place in my heart.
Makes sense as well, because if you notice, Armstrong is busy focusing the nanomachines into his right arm to attack Raiden. But because of that, Raiden's able to punch him multiple times in the hip, where the nanomachines are not at, and heavily damage him, since at that point Armstrong's side is pure flesh
In this game if you are playing at the highest difficulty (which he is) anything considered to be a parry does ridiculous amounts of damage (check Sam boss fight world record to get my point) which is why he is doing so much damage. If he was playing at easy it does very little damage
@@jetstreamsam99 from personal experience that doesn't seem the case. I spam as fast as possible on lower difficulties than Revengeance and I can't deal the same amount of damage as in this video.
Thankfully Raiden remembered his CQC fighting style. I wish Solid Snake could’ve kept on fighting despite his accelerated aging body. He still has the bravery courage fighting skills he had when he destroyed TX-55 Metal Gear in Outer Heaven 1995. Perhaps he might look into of getting a Cyborg body. And besides he still has all his armament of weapons he has got on from all of his missions in the past.
Olá Miduki eu queria dizer que seu trabalho e incrível, por sua causa eu consegui zerar o Metal gear rising com classificação de rank S em todas as missões, inclusive nas DLCs, Miduki eu te amo muito obrigado.
My brother was trying to beat this for a few minutes and it was really getting frustrating since everything one shots you lol We didn't even know you could abuse the dodge move like that. Definitely makes things a lot more manageable.
Vaya!!! que gran técnica!!! también estoy con Amstrong y si que es muy difícil vencerlo, con tu vídeo tomare una par de cosas que haces y las pondré en practica para poder vencerlo mas fácilmente, muchas gracias! :D
damn, those moves in metal gear rising are fucking genious. they make it possible to make alot of combos in a such a small amount of time with smooth animation and effects which make you enjoy the game while listening to the music
Is it just me and the feeling in my gut that every boss achievement foreshadows and reflects them maybe? List below are the achievements Mistral: Prodigal Murderer Monsoon: Genius destroyer Sundower: Truly human Samuel: Chosen by history Armstrong: The politics of silencing foes
You must learn all of your moves for fighting inside and out to achieve. For me I I use the Blue Wig with The FOX Blade. You must combine Ripper Mode and Blade Mode at the same time to slow down everything around me use the analog sticks to move around to dodge and avoid attacks.
What was the actual reason they gave for Raiden being able to beat Armstrong in the end when he couldn't scratch him before? It probably has something to do with Sam's sword being better, but wasn't there some reasoning like Armstrong could only cover a limited amount of his body with the Nanomachines or something?
His Nanomachines were getting weaker as the fight went on. Also, due to his weakening Nanomachines, Sam's extremely strong sword, mixed with Raiden's crazy strength, was able to damage all but the most heavily defended parts of Armstrong. At least, that's what I think I've heard.
Excalibursin Yep, he sliced his chest to take down nanomachine's shield or whatever from his stomach, just like *SPOILER ALERT LOL ALREADY 2 YEARS* Sam in his dlc.
So I just noticed that Armstrong bleeds in the final part of the fight. In other words the sword isn't bouncing off his skin it's cutting into him and then the skin regenerates. AND ALSO HE JUST DOESN'T EVEN REACT TO IT. HE'S ESSENTIALLY GETTING SKINNED ALIVE AND HE JUST KEEPS HUMMING ALONG. Also 7:28 where he's just casually FUCKING IMPALED and he just doesn't react in the slightest. No ouch, no flinching, Raiden screamed after his pain inhibitors were disabled and this man just doesn't care.
Types of Raiden's hair. Wigs give you bonuses like endless consumables (endless rockets and grenades) or endless energy for "Ripper" and "Blade" modes.
an idiot Wigs* You need to collect 20 left hands with data, only enemy officers have them, slice them in blade mode carefully. And finish the game on Hard.
I think it has something to do when you run and press the light attack button at the same time thus canceling your running animation several times to cover ground i have done that sometimes myself

I swear that part where he throws something at you is always the hardest part for me, Just like the sundowner's shields, I don't know probably because I'm using a mouse and keyboard.
