Heavy on the plate because he didn't want any bad press. Many years ago, there was a benefit for the Kidney Foundation at Long Beach marine stadium. A local DJ named "Machine Gun Kelley" was the MC. They had a BFH fitted with a second seat. Mary Rife was the driver of "Proud Mary" Kelley was jabbering like crazy. She ran off her record at about 198 mph. When she got back to the dock, they passed the mic to Kelley. He was completely catatonic. He couldn't move or speak for about an hour.
I was going to say something about an Allison with a Merc outboard but that wouldn't be fair. If I have to explain some viewers probably wouldn't understand. Nice looking boat. Thanks for the video.
Why wouldn't it be fair? An XB 2002 is a great bass boat and will run with this any day and get better mileage and no one will give you the stink eye for "being too loud, disturbing their calm, blah blah blah ". But I do love a V Drive drag boat.
i always liked to go down to the landing the first warm day of spring to smell the ether in the air trying to get those outboards to start, haha!! 'bass boat guy'!!
Old 70s Flatty, still fast enough to put u in your seat, vintage flatties are cool but if I were to do the flatbottom thing again it would be a 5/8 runnerbottom with a blown 468 Chevy, Had a blown 396 chevy ran good, but now I can afford a really nice one but ive out grown it, had a lot of fun building it from nothing though, be careful out there
I would love to take that to Lake Windermere and do a lap of the lake. They imposed a 4mph speed limit on there & the other Lakes so that even put an end to waterskiing. Great fun passing some snob in a steam boat & me doing about 3 figures. I feel pretty sure there'd be sod all that could catch me.
bhearts77 They run a v drive. The engine is backwards in the hull with a torque tube "aka" drive shaft from the crank to the v drive gear box, which is inbetween the driver and passenger or there abouts, the most common box is a 12 degree, the power feeds in through the torque tube, through a set of gears a upper gear on the torque tube and a lower gear on the prop shaft, the shafts goes back out in the same direction towards the transom, passes through the hull and out to the back where the prop is located. Hence the term "v" drive. Simple setup, and they are fast, v drives vs jet drives, will engines being the same, the v drive will smoke the squirt gun hands down every time.
@jeryl1968 - I agree. Other than the first run, he didn't seem to give it full throttle and didn't stay in it very long. It seems there was a lot of wake out there he was slowing down for.
@MrJimmytheprince - Another indicator that he competes in drag races, besides the SE on the Hat, is the Holding Rope deflector he has on the boat. I will agree with you that he wasn't going that fast, but he wasn't throttling that boat to it's max and he wasn't staying in it very long. Could have been due to conditions (he seemed to be constantly slowing down for wakes), or he was going easy on his passenger. Just a thought!!
"That other boat has no chance".... well maybe you didn't see the small crane and the diver in that boat. That's a rescue boat. He was there for the safety of those people in the flatbottom.
Safety isn't a joke. You're confusing the definition of "getting your panties in a wad". I made a factual, straightforward and non-emotional comment and you got your panties in a wad over my comment. Good job there buddy.
alright. so i understand the function of the big pedal(eternal happiness) but the other two... clutch possibly and then what? eject lever? someone with a bit more knowledge please enlighten me. :)
If you allow the video attachment Daniel... my applogies for the young lad's 'industrial language... the fellow taking the video. I know that speeds on the water at 140 + miles an hour are considered this side of insanity... and my 190 mph on the roads (safely, if you can imagine such a thing)... are only limited to my tires. Dyno suggests 230 to 260 for anyone with 'brass ones' big enough.... not on MY watch on my bike! I loved your video!
My 'boat' only packs about 540 hp at the wheel... but this is just a 'de-commissioning' of a worn out tire from the 4000 mile ride to Sturgis and back to Canada,,, And yes haters.... alchohol may have been involved. Beautiful Boat and amazing engine performance DanielJaeger.... I can relate!
hope yall know that if the boat ever flips for any reason ,thosehelmets ya are wearing catch the water like a scoop ,this will definately break your neck ,stretch it like a banana, for reals ,happened to a friend of a friend of mine
