You are the master of patience. I like to work on projects but after about a year I start to get bored with it. But here you are, just plugging away. Oh yeah, Lassie channel is fun to watch but I can never have those tools. I hope you have a productive 2024.
I had the same problem with my 1968 fierbird i tried and tried to form it with fiberglass resin and tape but after a week i gave up dont have a bead roller and not going for matching numbers, mine is not all original but any ways i tapped down the whole little detail and skimmed with fiberglass about a 1/32 of an inch lol your the man though quality job love your videos Mr, Fierman keep them going please.
I like it Roger. It will be alot of work, but worth it in the end. You can do all of this off the car, treat the backside with epoxy, and no one will know, but thats the point, lol. Nice!
This situation clearly is working on your mind and I don’t see you being satisfied until you see it to the bitter end and resolved. It’s your car, your time, your money. Do whatever you need to do and take as much time as needed to get you a happy result.
I ran into that problem when I put a new roof skin on my '68 with original quarters. The bead on the roof is too proud. I just tapered the difference on my quarters with filler and feathered it out. It's been 5 years now and nobody has pointed it out. The difference is so subtle that I actually point it out to people to show off my work.
I just read it... The roof skin is the problem. If you want a 100% correct body, you need to fix the roof, not the quarters, and that's a lot of work. Weld it up, grind it down and skim it with filler. Nobody will notice and it'll look fine.
if it was me i'd just blend the roof lines into the rear quarter for the first few inches then let it fade out to the ones on that quarter sail panel,as long as they are same each side,
It’s all about the details. Not many share insights into the fine details (too focused on chasing views). Curious now to look on my factory seam to see what it does (continuous or fades out)? Thanks for sharing.
I use AMD, and they fit great. The problem isn't the quarters, it's the bead of the roof skin. If you still have your original roof skin, you'll be fine.
