@Nick Rodriguez the Valkyrie performs better than any AR15 round at distance. As for AR10 which is a totally different platform (whole new gun) it performs better than 308 in everything but energy on target and comes close to 6.5 CM on everything but energy. If you want a lighter weight long range AR15 that can hit at incredible range Valkyrie does it.

Something looks off. A 123gr 6.5 Grendel projectile out of an 18 inch barrel should still be supersonic past 1,000 yards. And a 168gr projectile in a 308Win is NOT supersonic at 1,000 yards. A 175gr will be, but not the 168.

Honestly logistics was the major factor in steering me toward 6 ARC. Uses small primers, powders I already keep on hand for 223, selection of bullets out the wa-zoo. Everything needed to make a quality bullet is a lot easier and cheaper to get when you can find it. Couple that with a excellent range the bullet stays supersonic at and it was a no brainer.

That has been my main thing. Besides I have extra bolts and mags so easy transition all I need is the barrel and a set of dies and I can get to work!!I am building an AR10 Creedmoore, there’s just something about a light weight precision/able to hunt with AR15!! Great video as always! Outstanding numbers for the 6mm Arc as compared to the 6.5 Grendel. The more I learn about the 6mm Arc, the more I'm thinking about building another upper. But haven't decided if I want a 16, 18, or 20 inch barrel. Cmmg has 16 and 20 inch barrel only for this caliber. After watching your range testing video I'm leaning more towards the 16 inch barrel. been looking for the brass also and reloading components. Fun discussion and a great opportunity to geek out! Realistically, vast majority of people leaving comments about 1000 yards have never even seen what a target looks like at that distance, let alone shoot at it. 6.5 Grendel is a fantastic round, specially for hunting. I'm going 6mm because I want to reach out to varmints with my 15 platforms, since I refuse to build myself an LR308. The 6mm bullets buck the wind better that other calibers, that's why I put a .243win up against any long range target round. Really looking forward to seeing what you build around that ARC.

I just bought a box of 500 6.5 Grendel from Wolf because it's becoming rare. I don't even have the rifle built yet, but I wanted some inexpensive ammo for zeroing and plinking. I'd hop on inexpensive ammo if you can afford it. For me, I went with the 6.5 Grendel because it is more available and I am not shooting past 500 yards because this will be a deer hunting rig. I shoot both the 6.5 Grendel and the 6MM ARC. Both of them are awesome rounds. I chambered the 6.5 Grendel in an 18 inch barrel and the 6 MM ARC out of a 20’ inch barrel. Using them both for different purposes. 6.5 Grendel for camping and the 6 ARC for competition shooting. These rounds were very hard to find during the Plandemic and I ended up finding a plug at the gunshows and he would sell both ballistics in bulk. It was expensive but worth it at the time. Now I can find 6MM ARC easily but the Grendel is still pretty illusive as it isn’t found in as many places as the 6 MM ARC.

I liked it better when people were freaking out over 6.5 CM and leaving us 6.5 Grendel guys alone. IMO if SIG's new case tech works out and becomes commercially available, the 6.5 Grendel would get even better (as would ALL calibers FWIW) and let me put a 123gr pill put of the barrel at 5.56 speeds. I love the Grendel. Ive taken an elk and several deer and it never let's me down hunting the mountains of Idaho.

Agree with everything you say. However an important point not discussed in your and most other similar videos is what the 6.5 Grendel was designed to do. Basically the 6.5 Grendel was not designed for target or hunting (where expanding rounds are permitted) shooting. It was specifically designed for the military in so far as it was designed to have the hitting power of an AK47 whilst keeping the accuracy of the 5.56 NATO round.

Sir, I believe this is a viable option in the AR platform. I have looked at the data and believe in the reasoning for this. Some will look at this strictly as a 'wildcat'. However, as for Department of Defense and military, it will be as to what remains/becomes the standardized cartridge. For the average rifleman it is still 5.56mm.When the 6.8mm came out DOD did not adopt that (as a whole) for their cartridge. The popularity of this cartridge will be left to what ammunition logisticians influence decision makers to stockpile for the next 50 years or so. Nice video.

The advantage for 6.5 grendel to me is rifle weight. The .308 iis a much heavier platform. The 6.5 allows a slightly bigger bullet in the 123 over the arcs 108 . The differencs isnt much but still for my hunting needs the grendel seems to work . For punching holes in paper the arc might be the better choice.

6mmARC looks sweet I just built a 6.5 grendel haha I'm no long range shooter. But as for hunting elk with the ARC. I personally dont think I'd do it. But I dont know much about it. Sectional density, bullet expansion and penetration are what needs to be looked at for hunting something like elk. I've seen elk taken at 400 yards with the grendel. With 130 grain bullets. Personally (which is really what it comes down to) as much as I love my grendel. I'll take my 270 9 times out of 10 for something as big as elk. And I probably wouldn't shoot more than 200 yards if I did take my grendel for elk.

For long range 6.5 Grendel needs more velocity meens longer barrel. It is why a lot of grendel rig use 22-24" barrel (and sometimes 20"). 18" in grendel is relativity short for long range.

Diff between a 6mm ARC and a .243 is the barrel twist. The standard 6mm ARC vs .243 standard at same barrel length. 6mm can handle the higher BC 108s better than the 1 in 9.5 twist .243 hence it catches and passes it in bullet drop and foot lbs out past 500 yds

Not knocking your new 6mm I thinks it’s interesting... but your Grendel velocity seems a bit low as does your 308, almost sounds like the adds for the 350 legend the just as good as... or better than argument under skewed data commercials haha... also a neat round but please don’t pick the lows from the competition and the high from the round you are showcasing... I too have much “real world” chronograph data and while 6arc does have an advantage it is not near the advantage that your “real world” data shows. At least as compared to my chronograph data. These are effective less than 350 yard for small game. Beyond 500 yards you need bolt rifle or longer barrel. And who hunts at that distance? Grendel ammo is more affordable.

A marginal impact at 300 yards is not going to be overcome by 1.62mm cross sectional width, and 60 additional grains of mass. In other words, choose the round that will give you adequate lethality, with less recoil, system weight, and greater accuracy.

the 6mm arc just might be the best small frame AR round in existence. I've never been a fan of AR10s due to bulk and weight but the AR15 is great. For a SPR/DMR, the 6mm ARC seems about perfect given the limitations of the small frame platform. It also opens a ton of possibilities to the one lower, multiple upper guy that wants to do alot of things, including hunting.

It's a 108gr vs a 123gr both having the same muzzle energy and there's not a huge disparity in weight there so why would Grendel be the "terminal ballistics winner"?

6mm Arc is very interesting ammo does need to catch up before I pull the trigger on it. Pretty much every caliber out there now. Let’s talk KPS and Sectional density. I know not everyone has powerful rifles for just hunting but my thought is it has to be able to drop what I am shooting at quickly and effectively. I say that but .243 does drop medium game animals.

The 6ARC is prob the option if your choosing a competition round. If on the other hand your wanting an AR 15 cartridge that hits a ton harder than the 223/5.56, is available in affordable steel case to use for predators/whitetail deer/self defense... GRENDEL ALL DAY LONG IF you're competing in an "Unknown Sniper" comp...might want to choose the 6ARC

Main benefit of grendel, you can buy bulk wolf ammo 100 gn. Cheapest you can buy for the most part. Super low SD. Out of 18” still has 9mm energy at 1000 yards. 6mm ARC only makes sense in benchrest shooting. If you want self defense and long range. 6.5 Grendel. Not saying you can’t use arc for both but let me know where you can buy a 1000 rounds for under $300 for ARC.

My only complaint about my 6.5 Grendel is that it isn't my 7mm-mag. Although it does make a nice AR pistol, and that brings a different concept to the table, the 6.5 Grendel has approx. cartridge as a 44 mag with approximate a 25-06 bullet.

excellent comparison. I suspect this a distinction that the deer I shoot wont be able to tell. The only caveat for hunters is to remember that rifles are not yet energy weapons; and "foot pounds of energy" while useful, do not directly corelate with ethical killing ability .

I appreciate the info presented here...very much. But right now 6.5G is still the better option from a practical sense for the vast majority of people. I totally appreciate the thought process behind the BDC being the same with 308 though...that's a huge selling point form someone like Primary Arms. But until ammo availability and price matches that of 6.5G then for most of us it's not very practical to choose 6mm ARC yet.

The 6 looks good, but still uses the Grendel case. With people still having pressure issues breaking bolts, is this going to now transfer to the ARC? I’m pretty well invested in the 6.8 as it is, and the problem I see with all of these -15 cartridges is they are unable to get the kinetic energy to justify their use at ranges past 4-600yds for anything other than pinching paper. It just seems to be the limitation of the casing. I wish the development of the arc utilized a casing a little more forgiving in an AR-15 platform. I’ll keep up to date with the progress, but will likely stick with the 6.8 that is highly effective at practical ranges for the platform and utilizing a case less prone to parts breakages. Thanks for the vid

the grendel bolts issue was on people's lips 10 years ago. Now a days people make bolts even thinner than for the Grendel, like the POF revolution: a 308 bolt for an AR15 sized carrier (some bolt diameter as .223 but with a .308 case head cut out, very thin side walls). The Grendel bolt issue wasn't a problem with the grendel. It was a metallurgy issue.

Only issue is the BC for the AEC round will be better than that of the Grendel for the same bullet weight. I would be more concerned about which round would have the better hunting bullets. Grendel has a reputation for not opening /mushrooming properly on game animals. The AEC might have better hunting bullets available and increased bullet speed would help it open properly.
