I really like Mine,.. just make sure to use, the Tubb Version ONE Reamer on your Barrel and Peterson or, Norma Brass with, Forster Dies. A 1-8 or 1-7.5 Twist barrel, shoots everything from, the 70's to 108 grain bullets,.. GREAT for, Me. Barrel Life is, MUCH Better than, the 6 Creed as 100 FPS LESS Velocity and uses, 3 to 4 grains, LESS Powder.
I really like the idea of a proven combination of reamer, brass, and dies so I can see how the 6XC makes a pretty compelling package. For me, though, if I wanted a bit better barrel life, I'd drop down all the way to a 6BR or BRAI. You're dropping down to 2800 or so with a 110smk, but they can approach 3000 rounds useful match life and have mid-30s charge weights with common powders and (importantly) in many instances you can bump up in burn speed a bit. I went 6.5 because I wanted more of a dual-purpose hunting and target chambering and would live with the minor disadvantages over the 6mm Creed. Also, the 6.5 has a pretty appreciable step up in bbl life so it ends up costing me a bit less overall to shoot. I think the trick with shooting common SAAMI rounds well is choosing a good combination of reamer, brass, and dies. For precision work, SAAMI tolerances are much too sloppy, so you want to dial in components that are much closer to the limits. Especially once you're handloading and brass life really matters. Typically, SAAMI chambers are too sloppy and dies are setup to size brass that's been stretched by these sloppy chambers. I've been fortunate that my Forster 6.5 sizer seems to put the brass pretty close to saami max case size so in a smallish chamber brass doesn't stretch much. Plus Peterson SRP 6.5 is good stuff.
I just built a 6xc for light gun 1000yd benchrest using 110gr smk with h4350. I also shoot unlimited class 1000yd benchrest with a 7saum using 183gr smk with h4831sc. Both I built both are wicked
I thought I remembered you shooting the xc and I almost text you to see if you had any input for this video but I couldn't remember for sure if you did. I knew you run 6x47. I'm glad I got it right.
imo they way undercut the 6xc in the sierra manual. Most ive been seeing has a max charge around 39.9-40.0 with a muzzle velocity around 2950 with 115 berger VLD and 3000-3025 for 110g cartridges with H4350. i think that was from hodg
I have 4 guns in 6Xc- they way undercut the max- I shoot 103 ELDX with 41.2 grains of H4350 out of a 26 inch barrel and get 3060 fps- better than my buddy gets with his 6 CM with same bullet with max of H4350
Using a 90 gr TGK or 95 gr TMK and velocities from Sierra 6th edition, they are equal at 500 yards using shooter which is the same as applied. Brass and barrels will last longer in the 6xc. Also the 6xc and the 30 T/C are both made from 250 savage cases as the parent, thus 1 gr difference. So 1 grain difference means 120 fps? no
Pretty sure the .308 is also descended from 250 savage as well, making them distant cousins that happen to have a lot of resemblance. Well, the .250 descended from 300 savage, so maybe that's the true parent?
It will be Interesting to see how much barrel life I get out of my 6 creed barrel in prs shooting as thats harder on barrels than just casual shooting. Currently running a 109 berger at 3093fps with h4350 but I'll probably back that load off alittle to try and extend the barrel life slightly
Yeah a lower pressure load can definitely extend barrel life and shooting prs can definitely be rough on a barrel. You might look at the standard 6cm chamber instead of the match chamber to get a little more our of your barrels
I'm running the standard chamber. I originally had the match chamber and that barrel was a lemon so when I reordered my barrel I got the standard chamber because I realized after that .183 was just way too long
sup buddy.. shot my best string last weekend with my 6cm. 196-9x. ive been trying to find your phone number i had to get a new phone and lost everything. would love to get out qand do some elr shooting buddy.. great comparison btw
Right on man that's good shooting. I have been so busy I haven't had time to shoot a match lately. Right now the fields are being planted right now so getting out to do elr right now is pretty hit and miss. I'm going to try to shoot the next 3x1000. I'll message you on Facebook
