Great video. Still learning my 7.3 and this probably saved me $500+ since it wasn't the rear main and I ended up tackling it myself. Keep up the good work.

My 2000 7.3L Diesel gave me nothing but love for 19.5 years; now, however, I seem to have a fuel fountain somewhere below the waste gate controller/air intake manifold. Anyway my point is simply that I appreciate videos like this and I may wish to see more in the future.

I made this repair following your instructions. THANK YOU! I was really surprised that both old fittings and the plug were not much more than finger tight. When I began to loosen the plug, I had to look to make sure the socket was still on the plug as there was zero resistance. No wonder the o-rings blew out. Thanks again for your fine instruction! We are very grateful!!!

This video saved my ass. Broke down on a road trip from Washington to California, got about half way and blew an oring. Got lucky and broke down next to a ford dealer and a China freight tools. My tools were 400 miles away so I tried to buy a little garbage tools as I had too. Ended up using a body clip tool for the high pressure oil line quick disconnects. Worked like a charm. Lost 4 hours of drive time but got it all patched up. Cost about $200 in Parts, tools and oil but sure beats a tow bill, hotel and paying the stealership. This all happened on a Saturday too so I couldn’t even toss cash at the mechanics to borrow some tools

not the first video ive seen of yours but bought my first diesel today, 7.3 turbo f550 limo bus and when i finally got home i noticed a decent pool of oil when left idling, will have to really dig in tomorrow and find the culprit. like many others my first thought was, "oh shit its the rear main." seems to be from above the starter. all your videos have been super helpful, thanks!!!!

Just a note to let people know that even though the bag in the video for part number F81Z-9C402-AA says "One pkg of 2 pcs", dealers only sell them each, and they are any where from $25 to $55 EACH. Be sure you are getting two when you order. Rock Auto has them, and their order system won't even let you order one, it also doubles the price when you put it in your cart.

when i had a high pressure leak, i ended up having 2 small leaks, one was the quick connect fitting on the driverside oil rail. the second leak was the rear drain plug on the pump. i replaced the oil rail fitting with a newer style fitting, that has 2 external o rings, along with the internal o ring. one on the threads and second was on the outside where you pop the hose back on. the rear plug leak was simple, but what i had found was interesting. i think someone else replaced the o ring at one time. because not only was the o ring bad, but the plug was not even really that tight. the o ring looked like something they could pick up from a tractor supply. it was just a small brown o ring. much smaller then what the factory o ring was. and part of the o ring was started to peel away, wasnt dry rotted or cracked or even brittle, just a outer layer of the o ring has started to peel off. there were also no signs of lock tite used. i ended up getting the proper kits and replacing everything myself with lock tite as well. very quick and easy job. just messy. but also im prepared for any more leaks as i bought the kit to reseal everything on the pump, (i just dread when the time comes to pull the whole pump) although now i noticed i have oil leaking again. very small amounts. so i need to find that leak, i hope its not my repair thats doing it. although i also hope its not the turbo pedestal o rings.

So I have the oil running down from the valley & leaking out of the cover plate to the transmission/torque converter area. How can I tell if my leak is either rear HPOP plug O ring or the 2 HPOP Lines fittings - or if its from the Turbo Pedestal base seals? I don't want to start in on the Turbo Pedestal base if its just the Hpop plug or lines fittings that are leaking! It started out, I found a leak in my heater core with green coolant coming out the air conditioner condenser drain barb thru the firewall. Rather than spring the quoted $1500 for a new heater core replacement job, I just took both heater hoses off their heater core barbs at the firewall and joined the 2 together with some hose clamps and a brass double ended hose barbs piece so the coolant bypasses the heater core for now so I can drive then damn thing for a while. After that was done I let it idle for about 10 minutes max to come up to temp and make double sure there's no more coolant leaks, which was all good. Checked underneath just to be sure theres no coolant puddles from anywhere else and all good. Except now I notice a large pool of oil on the garage floor from bell housing inspection plate area. Turned truck off and jacked it all up at the front on jack stands. Got in underneath and couldn't see where the actual leak was - seemed to be coming down past the starter motor up above. Climbed in under the hood to see oil pooled in the valley - now realize its draining down the back of the bell housing & dripping out the bell housing inspection plate area..so likely either HPOP rear Plug O Ring or the HPOP 2 lines ORings - or worst case scenario - base of the turbo pedestal. How do I tell which it is please? Vehicle is Brazil built RH drive F 250 2004 model (the Brazil built 2004 still have the same US 2003 7.3 Powerstroke T444E Navistar engine in them) Superduty 4wd 4 door. So it is 13 years old this year BUT has only just done 160,000kms; or 100,000 miles since new. Could it be anything else obvious that I have missed? I cant see how bypassing the heater core by joining the 2 heater hoses could have caused a huge oil leak after 10 min idle. It wasn't leaking oil when I drove it into the shed to work on the heater core hose bypass dammit, it just started after I completed the heater core bypass and got that all sealed up nicely while letting it idle to make sure there were no more coolant leaks. The only thing had to do to get at the heater core hose barbs and clamps at the firewall was remove the air filter box cover and black plastic inlet pipe to the turbo - which I replaced just same way as it came off. Is it just coincidence that it decided to leak oil after fixing the heater core leak issue? If it was raining pussies today I'd get hit by a butt hole!. TIA for any sage advice.

Ok stupid question time... does one have to make sure the lines go back exactly as they came off? Meaning there is an in and out and it has to be that way? What happens if one were to mix them up? This is for future reference. My issue at present is the drain plug is leaking huge, It just runs down the valley after a min or two of running. I will check the hp connectors when I rum it up to temp and check my work on the drain plug. It could be that those fittings leak as well after it gets warm I'll find out.

So do I have to do anything as far as refilling the oil in the hpop or does it fill when I turn the key or do I just reconnect the lines and wait 15 min for the loctite to dry and fire it up and just check the oil and top off?
@jamesb1988
@jamesb1988 2 года назад
Well after a lot of swearing and squeezing my hands in shapes they weren't meant to be in, I got this done. I wasn't able to use the Loctite because despite letting it sit overnight when I went to clean port out oil was still coming out of it so I just said screw it and put the new fitting on there and so far so good, not leaking anymore. My only concern is that it takes about a second longer to turn over when starting now, is this normal?

I put an Adrenaline pump on mine, also new fittings. it lasted about 3 months and is starting to leak. Have you ever heard of the lines going bad where they connect to the fittings? I'm not sure if it's the line or the fittings, but with the fittings being new I would think it's the lines. I just wanted to ask before I drop $330 on new lines. It's a daily driver with no pulling done with it. Thanks

I am about to do this repair and I'm a little nervous regarding having the necessary room to be able to get all my tools in there... cause for mine it seems incredibly cramped and there are a bunch of metal pipes in the way that are going to make doing this rather difficult. Hi Brian, I have a question, I’m looking at it and Ambulance has 64,000 miles on it. And I want to buy it. But I noticed it has a leak on the engine and oil leak. It’s coming from the front could that be the high pressure oil pump. After looking at your video I suspect it could be that. I want to buy it but I wanna make sure I do the right thing. With that little bit of miles it’s hard to imagine main seals to go out so early. But what you just showed in this video that the fittings maybe what’s leaking on the E4 50

I was told today when I was getting my E-brake fixed (it failed state inspection) that I need to replace the "gasket" on my high pressure oil pump. This shop doesn't work on Diesels though. I'm a woman with no mechanical training, but I've been doing DIY on my old Suburban and now my F250 for years just by reading my manual, asking advice and finding video. Anyways, in doing some research, I have not found that there is a gasket to replace in HPOP, only the O-rings. Am I right?
@FordTechMakuloco
@FordTechMakuloco 9 лет назад
mokiepoet There is a gasket behind the pump where it bolts to the front cover but they don't leak that often. What leaks is the lower plug on the pump that Ford says cannot be replaced. Those plug seeps and follows down the pump soaking the same front cover gasket so it can be hard to see which. In the end to change that plug out you need to replace the front gasket anyway. It is an easy job I just did one not long ago and was going to record it and I wish I had now. Diesel Tech Ron has a basic Video on it though.
