You don't need to buy a cheap phone. Just get a Philippine SIM card or do the eSIM thing. My asawa (wife) and I are retired in Davao and now 'holiday' in Canada. Our Philippine SIM cards are good for a year if they have some load on them while we are away. Regarding a VISA waiver or extension, you don't need to go to a travel agent and pay an extra fee to them. You can go to any Bureau of Immigration office or do as I do. I do it online, quick and easy with NO EXTRA fee.

Prices below are for 1 person..as of June 2024 ..trikes prices are point to point trikes cost P30 ($0.52 USD) for any point in Barretto...multiple stops it is P50 ($0.87 USD).. Transportation: From Barretto to SBMA Trike: P200 ($3.50 USD) Jeepney: P20 ($0.35 USD) (Kalakan Gate) NOTE: Trikes, buses or Jeepneys cannot enter SBMA ..get off at Kalakan gate and walk across the bridge and catch a taxi (there is a taxi station there) anywhere in SBMA..ask the driver what the fare is before getting in taxi... I just bring the cash i need with me, watch exchange rates and exchange when its advantages for me. I dont care about the beaches or high tourist areas, you can easily take a bus to most places depending on where you want go on luzon, Mindanao etc. I rented a car once, justca pain in the ass driving there. Now its just busses, trikes and jeepney. If your trip is just about getting drunk then yes stay in angeles or the other tourist traps, but if you want to explore and hike etc. Move onfrom manilla after a day or 2 of adjusting to the time change.
