Simon, I'm sure you've had others commenting with fishing advice. But a couple of tips. When lure fishing you are targeting predatory fish. Predatory fish in still waters will conserve energy by hiding in cover and ambushing fish. Fishing very close to any sort of cover i.e. along the edge of reed beds will give you the best chance of a fish taking your lure. Also try imparting some movement to the lure rather than just reeling it back. Try it out in the margins in front of you. Jiggling the rod tip so your lure looks like an injured fish, darting forward then dropping back. It's a really fun way of fishing!
As always, another GREAT episode!! So glad you mentioned the extra time & effort it takes to capture even the simplest scenes for your channel. While we're sitting around on our A$$es enjoying all the beauty you bring us, very few realize how hard you work at bringing winning content. (Not to mention the chore of editing!!) ...Thank you - Thank you - Thank you!!!
Ditto, thanks. And you also essentially mounted 2 entire expeditions because you didn't share a canoe, tent, kitchen, etc. 3 portages adds a long time. In nostalgia for my own canoe trips from decades long past, I think I'm going to make my green tea on a stick stove this week. At least once. Will see where it goes from there :-) Thanks.
A trick with fishing sometimes when you're paddling your Canoe throw your line out behind you and as you drag it behind you you might get a fish every now and then you'll have fish for a dinner
Simon says there's plenty of fish in the lakes but what he doesn't say is there's far too much water with them. Lovely scenery makes for a great days paddling. Bushyboy Oz.
Thank you for showing us the map! I’ve watched Andy’s 3-hour movie, and was hoping for a map the whole time. Nice to see where you are and where you’re going.
I saw a little rapala plug in your little tackle box. Just slow troll that behind you when your paddling. It’s a sure bet around the edges of those lakes. Then you can make time and catch dinner. Just about the time you forget it’s back there till have one on.
As I said in Andy channel, you two are my favourites. Absolutely loving this. I have a honey stove off your rec and I love it, use it all the time. If I ever become King of Sweden, I will make sure that you take priority over other users in those huts.
For Englishmen, you make a mean Italian pasta dinner. Your twig stove experience is wonderful. If you’re needing a new trip, please think about the BWCA in Minnesota, USA. We’d love hosting you and Andy. Cheers, Skillet
Apocalyptic cider juice???? 😳 I don't think I will ask. 🙂 Beautiful scenery and I perceive that the videography was complex and challenging. Great video & once again some delicious looking chow on the trail. Thanks.
What a shame about the huts..... it's really fun to watch how you handle the canoe. I truly enjoy and appreciate your videos Simon. Thank you for all your diligent photography exploits. I know it's time and energy consuming and takes away a lot of the enjoyment and pleasure of your trips. Thank you so very much sir.
That morning shot when you were talking about fishing. That's when you should try fishing. Morning and evening are good. Perhaps if Andy would get up early you could have got the good campsite. Great video
Another beautifully edited episode Simon…not jealous at all! Wondered why you weren’t putting on boots for the long portages but now I know….that must have been hell in those rubber soled booties!
"sir, sir, he's pointing at the map AND NOT USING HIS FAT FINGER!" lol, I love it, good use of a twig. good effort Simon, really enjoying this series. my good friend Ratbag has decided next year our gang plus his brother and sons are off somewhere in Scandinavia for a similar adventure. I have to say I am really looking forward to it.
Back to this after 2 days - been a bit busy. Combined twig stove ignition champs. I like that large canteen pan - reminds me of cadets and basic training. after all the portage and paddling you'll need that. Pretty good stuff guys.
Thanks for sharing another great episode of your journey in Sweden! Looks like you have a great time even though it seems like a lot of hard work. I really hope you got to see that moose before you left.
Love seeing your trips. Just dreams of mine to do the things you do. Those portage s don't look like any fun at all. Love the campfire cooking. Keep up the good work. Hope your ankle won't be a problem. Looking forward to no.3!
soooo stoked. I have a feeling that, at least this part of the trip, will go down in your history as "the Portage Safari"....poor Andy...his loathing was palpable 😂
Hey there Simon hope your doing well. I love that coffee maker you have. You couldn't ask for a better one in the woods camping. It sure is beautiful where your located looks like a very quiet place too let your mind wonder away . I wish you the best stay safe. Happy trails my dear friend. Have a awesome day. ;-)
Nice one guys! Firebox now has a freestyle stove that can also act as a small contained fire pit and lightweight. Perfect for the type of trip you are on. Looks like a great adventure!
I really want myself that coffee pot!!! Glad to see you and Andy having a good time together. Rustic long distance/duration trips are never easy. Down here in South Texas we pronounce it Chor-ē-tZo.
This trip is amazing to watch I will do this one day I have to . Thank you for sharing. Going to watch Andy's now , I enjoy the different points of view .
Great video, I've been enjoying the journey with you. I continue to appreciate all the hard work that is exercised in the making and editing of the presented content. Well done.
I don't always remember to comment or like, I apologize for that. You and Andy are my favorite videos to watch. Thankyou for putting these up and God bless you both! Hi from Maine, U.S.A
Fascinating, relaxing, beautiful scenery, professional level camera work and editing, complete competence and you gotta admire anyone who is that committed to making proper coffee! Subscribed!
Hi simon amazing views amazing food looks a great trip its on my bucket list so at some point i will get there thanks for a real entertaining channel and taking the time to film all this 👍
Those portages looked brutal, I always wear lightweight trainer style boots in the canoe, I've been caught out with a long walk in the past. They at least give some support. The scenery is spectacular, certainly rockier than I imagined.
Was going to say the same thing, I don't canoe, but a pair of trail runners are what I usually wear for hiking anyway, much lighter than boots and although prone to getting wet they do dry quickly. Comfy enough to wear around camp in the evenings as well.
As soon as you showed the map and mentioned the hut, I had a suspicion it would be occupied. At least you still found a great spot to camp and very nearly had fish for supper. 😁 It's turning into the sort of trip that will live long in both your memories, and your biceps will be pretty well developed after all that portaging! Looking forward to the next instalment.
C'mon Simon fess up this is the broads really isn't it 🤣🤣 i was just saying to Andy how much me & my crazy wife enjoy both your channels & how well the shared video's turn out, keep em comin bud 👍👍
Simon would have been a great asset to a mining crew or in the military - both of these require positive outlook and great work ethic an I have experience in both He’s a good man ! Most RU-vidrs would have it title “ we missed out on another hut ! And i sprained my ankle “ Not Simon tho Jjst smiles and let’s us know in passing n Carry’s on Brilliant fella
@@markcummings6856 you're welcome Mark. I've since ordered one with a fire box underneath £41 with postage. So fingers crossed it will brew a stellar cup of joe 👌
So beautiful. I remember when i subd to you years ago watching you in your backyard and shop. Amazing how much has changed, But you’re still the same dude. Killer video brother. D😎🇺🇸🤙
Wow, what an amazing adventure!!! Anyone would think you wanted Andy to get his ass out of bed! 😂🤣😂 Beautiful shots from the canoe, especially right down close to the water, just stunning! That food looked amazing, the beers sounded good, the company incredible and a wonderful night!! always comforting having flames!!’ Look forward to the next instalment!! Love KGW 💕
Images are so pretty it is to bad one can't do more lollygagging so you can get your fish, plus take it all in more. Oopsey Simon doesn't lollygag at all type A all the way! The best is the family of some kind of water bird some kind of Grebe? With the cute lagging fellow with him treading water in the air to catch up! I had never seen any bird do that type of spray before. His own type of hydrofoiling. Grebes do dance on the water. Nice blue berries. Thanks Oh number three of this trip looks a bit daunting to me. Big lake canoeing is truly hard with the wind.
Well done! Fishing is a skill you can learn close to home. This could be a series of intructional videos, if you ever find yourself stuck at home and need content. I bet you have someone in you neighborhood that goes to city parks and streams and catches more than their share. That person would be glad to point you in the right direction. A bloke on the bank, has a nice ring to it. Thanks again for taking us along on your adventures.
Good stuff Simon, this is a fab series mate, I'll be gutted when it's over. Yet again more beautiful scenery for us to be jealous over. Some hard terrain covered too pal. Looking forward to part 3 and gad to see you got the fires going even if it wasn't they type you guys wanted.
Say wondering if some kind of shoulder strap fixed to each canoe might help on a big double portage. Think you'd need to have a spreader bar too. Thanks Simon. Nicely shot 👍
I absolutely love your videos Simon and appreciate all the extra work on a trip for filming then not to mention editing once you return!! Kia Ora from Aotearoa New Zealand. You are my inspiration for outdoor adventures, can’t wait to get out again soon in the up coming school Holidays with my kids now the weather is getting better
Looks a fantastic trip with stunning scenery. I'm very jealous - I've just winched my canoe up to the ceiling of my garage. I'm going to have to try fitting my barrel on a spare rucksack frame now.
Deja Vu aside, this looked epic. I am honestly not sure canoes and portage are my sort of thing, but it's more than ample to see someone else do it! ;) Be well.
