One time I accidentally unplugged my hard drive, and when I repaired it and started up Detroit again Chloe said "Oops I think your save game is corrupted." and I nearly had a heart attack.
I thought God of War had an amazing title screen when you first play the game, showing Kratos right next to the tree he’s going to cut down making the opening screen apart of the single shot camera
GoW title screens in general are great. The first one started with a closeup of Kratos' ugly mug, then pans out to see him committing suicide. Then the game starts.
The worst thing about going for the platinum in Detroit was having to face Chloe after every bad decision I had to make for a trophy. I felt so guilty every time I loaded the game..😐
I just played the whole game in one sitting the other night so when she came up at the end I was like...what?? You’ve been watching me play the whole time?! Next play through I’ll make sure to take breaks lol! I was just so invested in the story
@@bytesize0801 Same. Only had the game for two days so I played it as fast as possible. At the end she's asking to be set free and I'm like "Sure. Whatever. I don't know you."
A lot of people hated Inquisition, but I genuinely enjoyed it. Mostly because of Varric, he's the reason I don't even mind Dragon Age 2 though. Like if Bioware puts Varric in DA4 as a party member I will probably buy it even if it's not a single player experience. The cast of Inquisition was fantastic. The only character I didn't really care for was Sera, but I am romancing her anyway for fun. Yes I did actually like Vivienne, a love/hate relationship mostly, but she was interesting.
@@PhaethonCrafts I don't know if I'd want Varric as a companion again but an appearance would be nice. I'd like all new companions personally, or maybe a companion who appeared as a side character in a previous game (not sure who though). Two previous characters I can see showing up are Dorian in an advisory role and Fenris as a non-companion/maybe cameo given the setting of the next game (and Solas, but that's obvious).
Detroit become human is this months ps plus game. It's great and I thought the Chloe the title screen was crazy/creepy. Also if you start the game up after you beat the story there is a chance cyberlife gives you another "Chloe" if you chose to set her free.
@@jamesbrice3267 I think it's due to the less emphasized touch screen. With the first game, the devs knew the screen would be in your hands but with MM2, that's no longer a certainty
the original Witcher 3 title screen (before the DLCs) with Geralt meditating and the amazing music in the background will always be my favorite as it really gives you the chills and the feeling that this will be the last adventure for him
Honest to God I've never understood why they do it like this. Sure you can access it any time but who the hell is going to consistently remember to pull it up at the end?
It's not interactive, but one of my favorites is 2002's _Jet Set Radio Future_ for the original Xbox. The game's title screen is the four "main" characters (Beat, Gum, Yoyo, and Corn) skating around one of the earliest accessible areas, Shibuya Terminal, and uses really great camera work to pan around and switch between the characters while playing one of the game's best songs, _The Concept of Love_ by Hideki Naganuma. It really shows you what you can do when you've mastered the game's movement techniques all backed to a kick-ass soundtrack.
Is it just me or when you got to let Chloe go in Detroit become human Seconds after she left you wanted her back and repeatedly restarted the game and closed it and opened it again just to trigger the message to Allow you to get a new one
Oh god, people misinterpreting Shoredinger's cat upsets me so much. "Until you decide what's happening, everything is happening at once" That's not how it works Chloe. It wasn't meant to be a big philosophical thing. Shroedinger just made an analogy to help people understand quantum mechanics.
@@cr300 From Wikipedia; "The thought experiment was invented by Schrödinger to demonstrate the foolishness of thinking about quantum states for large objects." Basically, real cats cannot actually be alive and dead at the same time, but quantum state changes _can_ be thought of that way. Quantum physics is weird.
On the Just Cause 3, main screen, it always seems very serene, with Rico just standing there, staring off, away from the screen, and leaning against a vehicle, be it motorcycle, car, or plane. One time, though, upon exiting to the title screen, which then logs you back in and goes to the main screen, my Rico was placed right in the middle of a ground conflict between rebel and Di Ravello factions. If I’ve seen that main screen, once, I’ve seen it a hundred times, but _never_ have I seen Rico dropped into an area that, within a few minutes, became the scene of a battle. Yet, he was, that time, and, just like every other time, he simply leaned, relaxed, against his car, as bullets flew all around him, shattering the car’s windows and damaging its body, as well as visibly killing members of each faction, who happened to have moved into frame, although no bullet ever hit Rico, himself. It was the strangest thing I’d ever seen, and I should’ve done more to document it, whether by just saving the video, which I’m going to look for, now that I think of it. I was having a really good night, that night, playing JC3, and my memory of it isn’t completely clear. I had been at a place where a rebel base that I’d just taken was a few hundred meters down the road from a corner that was inhabited by recurring Di Ravello troops, with whom I’d just been screwing around, before quitting out, to make sure my progress (score) at that corner was included in my save file, before quitting out. Perhaps it was the fight that I was just stirring up, between the rebels at my very small base and Di Ravello’s troops, at the corner. To further describe the location and vehicle, Di Ravello’s troops Rico was leaning against a blue sports car that was sitting on a very narrow, dirt road, in the middle of a field just to the east of the base and the Di Ravello troop-spawning corner, and I’d gone to make something to eat, after quitting out, which then logged me into the game, again, after which I usually close the application. As such, it had taken some bit of time, for the battle to move to Rico, and so, perhaps there are other continue game spawning locations at which the same thing might happen, if rebels and Di Ravello’s troops are fighting, without Rico, somewhere nearby.... Damn, though, if it wasn’t one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Talk about nerves of steel, eh, Rico...
Witcher 3 blood and wine loading screen is amazing. It shows geralt meditating preparing for the upcoming battle while in the background an enemy you know he's going to kill sings A haunting song, unaware that he is there
The idea of an actual character taking and interacting with you in the main menu alone is just pure style and grace! Detroit: become human really kicked the gates open with that menu screen!
I completely missed the genius of Detroit's title screen because I played the whole game through in two sittings, so I didn't get the experience of coming back to it again and again.
I straight up did not turn my playstation off the whole time even when I went to bed so only talked to Chloe twice, so it wasn't until my 3rd playthrough I actually learned how much effort the devs put into the freaking main menu
The original infamous on the ps3, when you boot up for the first time, you are shown a peaceful perspective right before all the action kicks off seen from a random bystanders POV
I always liked the title screen of the first metroid prime. Nothing gimmicky compared to some of the entries in this video, but I love the music and the organic looking background. Really set the mood. Sometimes I stayed in the title screen for a couple of minutes and listened to the music, before I started the game. :)
You left out my favorite, Andy! The original Star Wars Battlefront 1 was beautiful! Soaring camera angles, John William’s majestic score, the way the camera zoomed into closer and closer establishing shots on the planet you play on, the blue hologram aesthetic... Really wonderful. The title screen and menus made me so excited to play.
What about other Double Fine game, The Cave? It isn’t much but whenever you start a new game you get a great monologue from The Cave itself! Talk about straight from the donkeys mouth
I imagine creepy animatronic George Washingtons must be especially terrifying to the British, I mean, imagine the Revolutionary War but Washington just flies to London and kidnaps the King. I'm personally just as terrified of the idea of a creepy animatronic King George III....I shudder at the very thought
Back in the day Douglas Adams knicked some ideas from a Dr Who episode (that, admittedly he wrote) whilst writing Dirk Gentley's Wholistic Detective Agency... I guess Dr Who's Titanic episode (where the luxury space cruise liner; The Titanic, crashes through the roof of the tardis) was Dr Who returning the favor!
Yeah TIL that Doctor Who Christmas special grabbed it's idea from a game! I believe Adams was a script editor on Doctor Who so it would be a lovely callback to reference something else he had done if anyone had mentioned it in interviews for the special.
Detroit Become Human's title screen was... (Spoilers) . . . . A smart way for you to put what the game has taught you into practice by letting deviant Chloe go.
American McGee's Alice games also had really atmospheric and unsettling title screens, especially the first one, where you had a brain schematic to poke to set different options.
My favourites are the Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light (at least the Reduxes). The first loaded in from a destroyed Moscow metro station into the actual title screen. That doubled as a benchmark test as well. The second you are navigating the metro on a cart. Pretty smart as well
On Pokemon Dash's title screen, you could mess around with Pikachu similarly to Mario's face in Super Mario 64. I spent a lot of time messing around with his cheeks...
Wait a minute, how could you have forgotten Katamari?!?!?! Not only was the title screen a masterpiece, but also the little hub planets! You had the cousins on one planet, the settings on another, the levels on the earth, it was absolutely delightful!
I had a game cube game called Tak where the opening screen showed a shaman doing; well what shaman's do and then notices you and actually taps on your tv screen to get your attention. The first time I saw that it freaked me out and then I laughed for about ten minutes. Oh and all the villagers had been turned into sheep. It was the first game ever that broke the 4th wall and I loved it. It helps get past that time when you are pushing every button on your controller so the game will just get on with it. Thanks for the nostalgia.
The first game you played that broke the 4th wall? Games that broke the 4th wall go back as early as Metal Gear 1 or 2 (the MSX ones), maybe even earlier.
Vexx has a similar title screen as SpecOps. The title screen starts with optimistic messages about the game and the further in the game you progress, the darker and more awful the messages get.
Are we thinking about the same Vexx? Crazy kid with big war talons platforming through a broken world? Because if we are, kudos to you, I miss the heck out of that game. :(
On the topic of heavy rain can we talk about how bad those controls are? That is the sole reason I uninstalled that game. It's so God Damn annoying to move around.
Oh, I actually immediately thought of Black Ops when I saw the title of this video! I had a blast with that title screen and actually completed Zork on it (with a bit of help from a guide). Fun times!!
I don't know if it counts, but Lego Marvel Superheros 2 title screen is kindof the first cutscene, starting the game even before you actually started playing! I really do love it. Also, you guys are awesome, congrats!
I love the title screen to Xenoblade Chronicles. Just simply beautiful. A grassy plain with the Monado stabbed into the ground, pristine and glowing with its Ether. The remnants Mechon rusted and strewn about. It would slowly cycle to a night scene of that same grassy plain. And the music, oh that music is a piece that sill gives me shivers no matter how many times I listen to it. Just simple, and beautiful.
The Enter the gungeon menu lets you fool around with the characters, go to the shop and buy more guns, do the tutorial and many other things i havent unlocked yet
Oh! I know one! The Metro:Last Light is pretty neat. The different menu options/nodes are part of a rail cart, that, depending from which state you access the menu (after game startup, or after playing missions), either sees the main character wandering around, or have the cart endlessly traversing creepy tunnels. I thought it was neat.
Age of Mythology was one of my favourite title screens. Along with the great music it was nice seeing some of the units appear in different parts of the background.
skyrim title screen , is my favourite title screen for a video game . leave it running and it plays the whole Dragon Born theme song its freaking epic 🤘. fallout 4 is another favourite Is another favourite of mine, it's the rocket garrage/ petrol station but the garage area has a full suite of power armour in power armour station, the main centre piece in a fully furnished garage fit for a player character getting by in post apocalyptic Boston .
Starship Titanic's start screen is very similar to another point-and-click Titanic game I played in the past. You start in your small London flat during the Blitz. You can walk around and interact with most of the knickknacks (including the radio); but the game won't actually start until you flip through a deck of tarot cards on your desk and reveal the Death Card. At which point, a V2 rocket will come careening through your window and blow you up; sending you back in time to the Titanic's maiden voyage allowing you to fix your mistakes from the first time you were on it.
Command and Conquer Generals (and Zero Hour) had an endless base attack looping in the background to get you excited about the game, something many of the most finished mods took up and built as well. Haven't seen that much elsewhere
Not exactly a title screen but i remember the first version of character choice screen in first GuildWars, it was your character standing on a big pillar in the middle of the sea, and you could rotate it to see not only your character from all sides but also different parts of the world on the horizon (and i think there was some sea creatures swiming in the water). It was so epic, and then they changed it and it was never as cool again ... never. Any one here remembers that or am i alone here?
One thing I loved about the Bioshock Infinite menu is that when each of the signboards changes to the menu options, it uses the same temporal distortion effect that Elizabeth causes.
The thing that Bioshock Infinite did in the title screen is also in most Naruto Shippuden Games btw! I loved the Super Mario 64 Title screen quite a lot, especially for the music but also the fact that you were able to deform Mario's face. When selecting different options the background colour also changed which was kind of cute. :)
1. Black ops 2. Detroit become human 3. Dragon age inquisition 4. Metal gear solid 3: snake eater 5. Starship titanic 6. Bioshock infinite 7. Psychonauts
Bravely default title screen turning the "where the fairy flies" into "airy lies" by making the letters disappear once you reached a certain point in the game was pretty neat.
Soul Calibur had a fun one once you unlocked the option in the game where you could edit the opening movie. I think everyone's favorite act of trolling was to put Voldo in the spot where Sophitia stands in the field and then turns and looks at you in a sexy fashion.
I insist that Ratchet and Clank 2's title screen can stand toe to toe with some of these giants. The menu plays over a scene of the protagonists chilling in their new house and watching TV, until you start a new game from there, where they're abruptly teleported away into another Galaxy and the main plot
I like what the bravely series does with their title screens when SPOILER Where the Fairy Flies turns to Airy Lies End Layer changes to Send Player Its a great way to show things really aren't as they seem. It may not be the best title screen but I think it's neat. Also bonus during the final boss in Bravely Second you're forced back to the title screen to almost delete your save files.
Just an honorable mention for A Hat in Time, in the one "mission" where you get a passport mugshot taken to legally become a bird and the game gives you the chance to doodle MS Paint style all over the photo, which is pretty amusing in itself Then you load up the game again and you realise that the default Hat Kid icon on your save file has been replaced by your silly, awkwardly scribbled-on photo. :D I remember making mine a super angry, cross-eyed Hat Kid with giant chompy teeth, now I'm no controller artist mind you, let alone budget MS Paint, but it did make me laugh every time I loaded up the game. xD
If we're digging into start menus; Katamari Damaci has an incredibly cute one that blew my mind the first time I played it. Floating around on your own little 'King Kai' planet, then soaring over to a giant mushroom to hobnob with your cousins... Being able to look up into the night sky you slowly create over the course of the game... I especially love how the tiny prince waves goodbye after you save ^.^ Such a wonderful game
Sorry, I sneezed at the beginning of the video and everything went from talking about Mario to "involved in the assassination of JFK." THAT TOTALLY BLEW MY MIND! (Or maybe it was just the sneeze)
KOTOR 2. It will start with Darth Sion on the Starting screen than switch to Darth Nihilus. But if you go Dark Side it will switch to the main character. Showing that YOU have become the Dark lord.
Borderlands 2: you’re badass character stands on a ledge watching over Pandora, allowing you to see all the areas you will explore, showing progression of the story (i only saw that Sanctuary moved), and has Claptrap be... claptrap
American Mcgee's Alice! Different parts of the menu highlight a phrenology chart, the save and load functions are old-style security camera interfaces and I believe, been a while since I've seen it, there are parts of Alice's medical notes around.
